SBC LTER: Daily averages of modeled significant wave height (Hs) and peak wave period (Tp) in the Santa Barbara Coastal area from the Coastal Data Information Program - Monitoring and Prediction System (CDIP MOP)
From http://cdip.ucsb.edu: The Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP) is a research group at Scripps Institution of Oceanography that monitors coastal waves and nearshore sand levels on regional scales. CDIP maintains a network of optimally-placed, directional wave buoys from San Diego to Eureka. The buoy measurements are used to initialize a high spatial resolution (100m x 100m) linear spectral wave propagation model. The resulting hourly hindcasts and nowcasts of CA coastal wave conditions have a level of accuracy that is not possible with more traditional wind-wave generation models that are initialized with modeled wind fields.

Dataset for surface waves height prediction through the video and image processing
<p>Image-based study of surface waves is a long lasting topic in ocean science and remote sensing. We believe that modern computers and new programming techniques can make a break-through in this area.</p> <p> </p> <p>This dataset provides some video files of surface wind waves of two kinds. First is a video snapshot of a quite large area. Second one is a zoom-in video of a spar-buoy (a stick) located in this field. According to the zoom-in video we may see the actual height of the wave in this particular point. This should be treated as a reliable data and so it can be used to calibrate the brightness field. I.e. the users of this dataset are welcome to train their model to obtain the height of the wave out of its brightness on the zoom-out large-area videos.</p> <p> </p> <p>All video files are readable by a conventional software. Records were taken at mild wind conditions in a gulf (fjord or skerry) of the Ladoga Lake. See "readme.pdf" for the details</p>
Wave height and period in South Bay, VA 2011-2013
RBR Wave gauges were deployed in South Bay behind Wreck Island on the Coast of Virginia. Measurements were recorded every 10 minutes, four times per year (typically, Jan, April, July and October) for 20-30 day deployments from 2011 to 2013. Units were mounted on cinderblocks and submerged.

<p>Simulation outputs for the paper "Primary Versus Secondary Gravity Wave Responses at F-region Heights Generated by a Convective Source" by Heale et al.</p> <p>The .mat file consist of 3D (t,x,z) arrays of the temperature perturbation (K) for the full amplitude (T_fullamp), 1/4 amplitude (T_quarteramp), and 1/100th amplitude (T_hundrethamp) simulations. The time resolution is 60 seconds and the spatial resolution is 1km. The .mat file also included an x array and height array (km)</p>
Data for: Ensemble-based data assimilation of significant wave height from Sofar Spotters and satellite altimeters with a global operational wave model
<p>An ensemble-based method for wave data assimilation is implemented using significant wave height observations from the globally distributed network of Sofar Spotter buoys and satellite altimeters. The Local Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter (LETKF) method generates skillful analysis fields resulting in reduced forecast errors out to 2.5 days when used as initial conditions in a cycled wave data assimilation system. The LETKF method provides more physically realistic model state updates that better reflect the underlying sea state dynamics and uncertainty compared to methods such as optimal interpolation. Skill assessment far from any included observations and inspection of specific storm events highlights the advantages of LETKF over an optimal interpolation method for data assimilation. This advancement has immediate value in improving predictions of the sea state and, more broadly, enabling future coupled data assimilation and utilization of global surface observations across domains (atmosphere-wave-ocean).</p>
