Future hourly wet-bulb globe temperature dataset for 842 cities in Japan
We provide projected hourly wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT) data for 842 cities in Japan for April to October in the period 2030-2100. The projection is generated by applying prediction models built by learning the relationship between historical hourly WBGT and the daily weather indices using a machine learning method called eXtreme Gradient Boosting, to a future climate scenario data for Japan area called NIES2020. Projection data for the historical period 1980-2014 are also available.
GSDM-WBT: Global station-based daily maximum wet-bulb temperature data for 1981-2020

The wet-bulb temperature integrates the temperature and humidity to comprehensively describe the thermal environment and the energy regulation of human bodies. Daily maximum wet-bulb temperature is an important indicator to be used for research on extreme humid heat. GSDM-WBT is a new dataset of global station-based daily maximum wet-bulb temperature, which was produced through calculating wet-bulb temperature, data quality control, infilling missing values and homogenisation based on the HadISD station-based observations and the NCEP-DOE reanalysis data. GSDM-WBT covers the complete daily series of 1834 stations around the world from 1981 to 2020. We provide the NetCDF files of GSDM-WBT for each station and one compressed file containing all data.

Methods (psychrometric and regression) to calculate wet-bulb temperature, and monthly oceanic rainfall sensible heat flux

This upload includes: 1) a lookup table for computing wet-bulb temperature using the psychrometric method, 2) difference between wet-bulb temperature computed using the psychrometric method and the regression method, and 3) monthly mean oceanic rainfall sensible heat flux for the period 2005–14.

Wet-bulb Temperature

This dataset contains isobaric wet-bulb temperature (WBT) at hourly frequency spanning from 1979 to 2022. The variables employed for WBT calculation include dry-bulb temperature, humidity, and surface pressure sourced from the ERA5 reanalysis dataset, utilizing an approach outlined in "Dawei Li*, Jiacan Yuan*, and Robert E. Kopp (2020): Escalating global exposure to compound heat-humidity extremes with warming. Environmental Research Letters. DOI:10.1088/1748-9326/ab7d04".
