Line luminosities of Galactic and Magellanic Cloud Wolf-Rayet stars

Template (optical, continuum subtracted) emission line spectra of Milky Way and Magellanic Cloud Wolf-Rayet stars, presented in Appendix B of Crowther, Rate & Bestenlehner (2023, MNRAS, in press; https://arxiv.org/abs/2301.11297). Ascii format, wavelength (Angstrom) versus monochromatic luminosity (erg/s/Angstrom). Separate templates are provided for single-only and all (single+binary) since binaries are often contaminated by (Balmer) absorption lines from companion OB stars. Highly reddened sources (primarily in Milky Way) also exhibit strong interstellar features (CaII H&K, NaI D, DIBs at 4430, 5780, 5797 Angstrom) and some datasets involved have not been corrected for atmospheric telluric features. Owing to the heterogeneous origin of individual datasets, templates cover a range of wavelength regions, and some exclude the 6070-6400 Ang region, owing to detector gaps for ANU 2.3m + DBS spectroscopy. Separate templates are provided for each galaxy with the exception of WN/C and WO stars, which are also combined into a single dataset (owing to the low total numbers involved). Templates are degraded to a uniform resolution of 10 Angstrom, with average radial velocity corrections of 284 km/s (LMC) and 162 km/s (SMC) applied. Further details are provided in the README.txt file.

Please cite Crowther, Rate & Bestenlehner in publications if these templates are used in research.

Oregon Wolfe Barley (Hordeum vulgare) Informative & Spectacular Subset (ISS) vegetative stage growth data

Oregon Wolfe Barley Informative & Spectacular Subset (ISS) was raised at the Ag Alumni Seed Phenotyping Facility (AAPF) at Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana, USA) for 42 days. There were 18 genotypes, with two replicates for each genotype (total plants: 36). AAPF is a controlled environment high-throughput phenotyping facility with automated imaging and irrigation systems. A virtual tour of AAPF can be found at https://ag.purdue.edu/aapf/virtual-tour.html.

Seeds were sown in a 6 L pot with 2.8 L of Profile Porous Ceramic Greens Grade and Berger BM6 each with 10g of Osmocote. Five hundred ml of Turface was laid on top of each pot to avoid effect of algae for RGB data derivation. The growth temperature in the chamber was 72/68 degrees Fahrenheit day/night. Relative humidity was set at 60%. Lighting was 16 h day/8 h night.

Plants were imaged with RGB camera from one top and 12 side views three times a week, ranging between 10 days from planting (equivalent to sowing, Dfp) to 42 Dfp. Ground reference data of plant height and tiller count were measured twice a week.

RGB imaging data were stored in “OWB_RGB.xlsx”. Datasheet “Information” describes the variables in datasheets for top view, side average view and every side view.

Ground reference data for plant height and tiller count were stored in “OWB_ground_reference.xlsx”. A map of canine sequence variation relative to a Greenland wolf outgroup

For over 15 years, canine genetics research relied on a reference assembly from a Boxer breed dog named Tasha (i.e., canFam3.1). Recent advances in long-read sequencing and genome assembly have led to the development of numerous high-quality assemblies from diverse canines. These assemblies represent notable improvements in completeness, contiguity, and the representation of gene promoters and gene models. Although genome graph and pan-genome approaches have promise, most genetic analyses in canines rely upon the mapping of Illumina sequencing reads to a single reference. The Dog10K consortium, and others, have generated deep catalogs of genetic variation through an alignment of Illumina sequencing reads to a reference genome obtained from a German Shepherd Dog named Mischka (i.e, canFam4, UU_Cfam_GSD_1.0). However, alignment to a breed-derived genome may introduce bias in genotype calling across samples. Since the use of an outgroup reference genome may remove this effect, we have reprocessed 1,929 samples analyzed by the Dog10K consortium using a Greenland wolf (mCanLor1.2) as the reference. We efficiently performed remapping and variant calling using a GPU-implementation of common analysis tools. The resulting call set removes the variability in genetic differences seen across samples while maintaining general patterns of breed relationships. Using this sequence data, we inferred the history of population sizes and found that village dog populations experienced a 9-13 fold reduction in historic effective population size relative to wolves.
