GENDER DIVERSITY AND ITS IMPACT ON THE WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN THE WORKFORCE: WITH REFERENCE TO INDIAN CORPORATE SECTOR. (HRM: PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN IN THE WORK FORCE

Gender roles have been two different sized fruits on the same tree branch since olden times.
The distinguished rule book for both males and females which had been followed for since
long still has its effects widely seen in the Indian corporate sector also. With the recurrent
fluctuation experienced in the women participation in the Indian workforce, the main pulling
back factor always has been Gender Diversity issues. There are many workplace factors
which infuse more power to this aspect called gender diversity; some of which are out of
one’s control while many of which are manageable. These factors include salary range, job
positions, promotional opportunities, workplace behavior and many more. The list is endless,
but the impact of all the gamut of such aspects has to be borne by the female employees. This
paper is a descriptive analysis on the effect of various factors on the gender diversity issues in
Indian Corporate sector. Secondary data has been used in order to correlate the factors like
salary, promotional opportunities, and other factors in the corporate sector with the gender
diversity issues. The statistical evidences have been depicted with the help of graphs and pie
charts which would contribute in making the whole situation of diversity issues more crystal
clear and transparent for the readers. The paper is an attempt towards finding the in-depth
causes for the ups and downs in the women participation in the nations’ workforce and also to
bring about a change in the current plight of female workers in Indian Corporate sector

Women's political participation in city council, Debretabor City Administration, Ethiopia: An exploration of barriers

Women have traditionally been marginalized within the political sphere, notwithstanding their significant achievements. The study looks at the barriers that stand in the way of women participating actively in politics, with a particular emphasis on the Debre Tabor City Council. A case study research design was used in the study. The sample techniques used were maximum variation, deviant case, and intensity sampling. Semi-structured interviews, life histories, and focus group discussions (FGD) were also used to obtain the data. The findings showed that women's political engagement in city council was in danger due to a variety of factors, including gender bias in decision-making processes, the country's shifting political landscape, and Islamic religion fellows' perspectives. In light of this, the research findings urged the need for gender-sensitive policy formulation within the city administration council.

Use of intrapartum evidence-based practices in childbirth after participating in the Senses of Birth intervention among Brazilian women

Brazil has a cesarean rate of 56% and low use of Intrapartum Evidence-based Practices (IEBP) of 3.4%, reflecting a medically centered and highly interventionist maternal health care model. The Senses of Birth (SoB) is a health education intervention created to promote normal birth, use of EBP, and reduce unnecessary c-sections. This study aimed to understand the use of intrapartum EBP by Brazilian women who participated in the SoB intervention. 555 women answered the questionnaire between 2015 and 2016. Bivariate analysis and ANOVA test were used to identify if social-demographic factors, childbirth information, and perceived knowledge were associated with the use of EBP. A qualitative analysis was performed to explore women's experiences. Research participants used the following EBP: birth plan (55.2%), companionship during childbirth (81.6%), midwife care (54.2%), freedom of mobility during labor (57.7%), choice of position during delivery (57.2%), and non-pharmacological pain relief methods (74.2%). Doula support was low (26.9%). Being a black woman was associated with not using a birth plan or having doula support. Women who gave birth in private hospitals were more likely not to use the EBP. Barriers to the use of EBP identified by women were an absence of individualized care, non-respect for their choices or provision of EBP by health care providers, inadequate structure and ambiance in hospitals to use EBP, and rigid protocols not centered on women's needs. The SoB intervention was identified as a potential facilitator. Women who used EBP described a sense of control over their bodies and self-efficacy to advocate for their chosen practices. Women saw the strategies to overcome barriers as a path to become their childbirth protagonist. Health education is essential to increase the use of EBP; however, it should be implemented combined with changes in the maternal care system, promoting woman-centered and evidence-based models.

Representation of women in stroke clinical trials: a review of 281 trials involving over 500,000 participants

Objective: Women have been under-represented in clinical trials areas of cardiovascular disease but there is less certainty over the level of disparity specifically in stroke. We examined the participation of women in trials according to stroke prevalence in the population.

Methods: Published randomized controlled trials with ≥100 participants enrolled between 1990 and 2020 were identified from ClinicalTrials.gov. To quantify sex disparites in enrolment we calculated the participation to prevalence ratio (PPR), defined as the percentage of women participating in a trial against the prevalence of women in the disease population.

Results: There were 281 stroke trials eligible for analyses with a total of 588,887 participants, of whom 37.4 % were women. Overall, women were represented at a lower proportion relative to their prevalence in the underlying population (mean PPR 0.84; 95% confidence interval [CI] (0.81 to 0.87)). The greatest differences were observed in trials of intracerebral hemorrhage (PPR 0.73; 95% CI 0.71 to 0.74), trials with a mean age of participants <70 years (PPR 0.81; 95% CI (0.78 to 0.84)), non-acute interventions (PPR 0.80; 95% CI (0.76 to 0.84)) and rehabilitation trials (PPR 0.77; 95% CI 0.71 to 0.83)). These findings did not significantly change over the period from 1990 to 2020 (p for trend = 0.201).

Conclusion: Women are disproportionately represented in stroke trials relative to the burden of disease in the population. Clear guidance and effective implementation strategies are required to improve the inclusion of women and thus broader knowledge of the impact of interventions in clinical trials.
