Net Carbon Exchange of a Young Upper-Slope Deciduous Forest at Harvard Forest LPH Tower 2002-2010
This data set contains sensible heat exchange, water vapor exchange and carbon exchange as well as environmental data for a deciduous forest dominated by red oak (Quercus rubra). It is 1.1 km WNW of the EMS tower where continuous eddy covariance measurements began in 1992 (see HF004). The High Deciduous site is about 385 m a.s.l., or 35 m higher in elevation than the EMS, which is situated in a relatively low area near a stream. The forest near this eddy covariance tower is broadly similar in species composition to the EMS site, but it is younger and shorter in stature. The site was cleared for pasture, but not deeply plowed or planted, in the 18th and19th centuries. Agriculture on the site was abandoned near the end of the 19th century. The forest within 200 to 300 m of the eddy covariance tower to the NW, W, SW, and S burned in an intense fire in 1957, which left few or no surviving trees.

Since 2009, the FISHSCAPE Project (Grant #1719267, 1417754, and 0902153), based at Toolik Field Station, has monitored physical, chemical, and biological parameters within three watersheds: The Kuparuk (including Toolik Lake and Toolik outlet stream); The Sagavanirktok (primarily Oksrukuyik Creek, but also including sections of the Ailish and Atigun Rivers and the Galbraith Lakes); and The Itkillik (primarily the I-Minus outlet stream, a tributary that that feeds into the Itkilik River). The goals are to understand and predict the adaptability and persistence of a key Arctic species, the Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus), to changing climate and hydrology. Research questions include: (1) Does landscape structure determine movement within and among watersheds; (2) do populations adapt to stream characteristics at local and regional scales; and (3) will the relative adaptability of populations determine their persistence under future climate change. To test ideas about local adaptation, we conducted an aquatic common garden experiment at Toolik Field Station, to investigate the genetic component of phenotypic variation among Arctic grayling populations on Alaska's North Slope. DataSet of "No renal dysfunction or salt and water retention in acute mountain sickness at 4,559 m among young resting males after passive ascent"
<p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p><strong>Purpose</strong>: This study examined the role and function of the kidney at high altitude in relation to fluid balance and the development of acute mountain sickness (AMS), avoiding confounders that have contributed to conflicting results in previous studies.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong>: We examined 18 healthy male volunteers (18 - 40 years) not acclimatized to high altitude while on a controlled diet and resting recumbently for 24 h at Lausanne (altitude: 560 m) followed by a period of 44 hours after reaching the Regina Margherita hut (4,559 m) by helicopter.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong>: AMS scores peaked after 20 h at 4,559 m. AMS was defined as functional Lake Louise score <span class="math-tex">\({\ge}\)</span> 2.There were no significant differences between 10 subjects with and 8 subjects without AMS for urinary flow, fluid balance and weight change. Sodium excretion rate was lower in those with AMS after 24 h at altitude. Microalbuminuria increased at altitude but not differently between the groups. Creatinine clearance was not affected by altitude or AMS, while sinistrin and PAH clearances decreased slightly, more markedly in those without AMS. Plasma concentrations of epinephrine, norepinephrine, atrial natriuretic factor and vasopressin increased while renin activity, angiotensin and aldosterone decreased at altitude. Hormones levels did not differ between those with and without AMS.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions</strong>: 1) Renal function is not affected by hypoxia at 4,559 m in resting subjects except for minor microalbuminuria, 2) high altitude diuresis does not occur and 3) AMS is not associated with salt and water retention or renal dysfunction.</p>

Sustainability in Chemical Education - A Global Young Chemists Survey
<p>In 2020, young chemists of the German Young Chemists' Network (GDCh-JCF) designed a survey to get a snapshot of how their peers perceive the importance of sustainability in chemical education. With the help of the International Younger Chemists Network (IYCN) and the European Young Chemists' Network (EYCN) they were able to reach around 500 young chemists from 46 countries. Roughly half of the responses came from people that represented the German education system. Although the results need to be taken with a grain of salt as stated in the disclaimer (see .pdf document), they paint a picture of a desperate need for more sustainability topics to be covered by chemical education globally, particularly in Germany. More than 90% of young chemists globally call for more detailed coverage of sustainability topics while the current adequacy is only rated as good or better by a quarter of all respondents. A significant portion (>50% inside of Germany and >30% outside of Germany) does not feel prepared to contribute to the sustainability strategy of a company despite >80% rating the sustainability startegy of a company as an important factor for their career choice.</p>

Participants were on average 25 years old when they answered the questionnaires. The final sample size used in the manuscript is 5516. <p>This repository contains several data from the paper "Eccentric black hole mergers via three-body interactions in young, globular and nuclear star clusters".</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>BBH_mergers_cat_*.dat</strong> contains the data for the BBH merger population produced by the three-body simulations. These data can be used to reproduce figures 4,5, and 8 of the paper. Interagency Ecological Program: Summer Townet Survey for Young Pelagic Fishes in the San Francisco Estuary
The Interagency Ecological Program’s (IEP) Summer Townet Survey (STN) is a long-term effort to monitor the annual recruitment success of young pelagic fishes in the upper San Francisco Estuary (California, United States). Conducted by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) since 1959, STN has sampled fixed locations from Eastern San Pablo Bay to Rio Vista on the Sacramento River, and to Stockton on the San Joaquin River; and a single station in the lower Napa River. The study area was expanded in 2011 to include the Sacramento Deep Water Ship Channel (SDWSC) and Cache Slough (CS). Currently, 40 stations are sampled as a “survey” every other week June through August for 6 surveys. A conical net, lashed to a fixed metal “D” frame, is pulled obliquely through the water column 2 to 3 times at each station. All fish and macro-invertebrates are identified and enumerated from each tow, with fork lengths (mm) of the first 50 of each fish species also recorded. Fish catch, length-frequency, and catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) among stations is available with data visualization tools on the study website for all species (https://wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/Delta/Townet-Survey). Data collected at historic 31 stations are used to calculate annual relative abundance indices for age-0 Striped Bass (Morone saxatilis) and Delta Smelt (Hypomesus transpacificus). The remaining 9 stations are sampled to expand our sampling range further upriver and increase our understanding of larval and juvenile fish abundance and distribution in the lower Napa River and the North Delta. A meso-zooplankton net targeting copepods and cladocerans is also used in parallel to assess fish food resources at each station and a subset of the fish collected are retained for diet analysis by CDFW researchers (beginning 2005, see STN and FMWT zooplankton data on EDI). Confusion matrices for theoretical young stellar object models
<p>This is a data table supplementing the following publication: </p> <p><em><strong>A framework for modeling the evolution of young stellar objects </strong></em>(Richardson et al. 2025, accepted to ApJ).</p> <p>It contains a set of confusion matrices comparing the evolutionary stages and classes of radiative transfer YSO models selected by proximity to protostellar evolutionary tracks. Models are included in a matrix based on their correspondence to particular modeled accretion histories, zero-age stellar masses, ages, mass accretion efficiencies, and levels of detectability (defined using flux in the ALMA Band 6 wavelength range). Details on the construction and use of the table are contained in the accompanying README file, and more information about the matrices is contained in Section 4.2 of the companion paper.</p> <p>The YSO models populating these matrices are from Richardson et al. (2024); information on them is contained in the <a href="https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2024ApJ...961..188R/abstract" target="_blank" rel="noopener">companion work</a> and <a href="https://zenodo.org/records/10522816" target="_blank" rel="noopener">data release</a>.</p>
An updated modular set of synthetic spectral energy distributions for young stellar objects
<p>These are the models released with the following publication:</p> <p><strong><em>An updated modular set of synthetic spectral energy distributions for young stellar objects</em></strong> (<a href="https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2024ApJ...961..188R/abstract" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Richardson et al. 2024</a>).</p> <p>This is a set of young stellar object (YSO) models with associated spectral energy distributions (SEDs) calculated through radiative transfer. It is a significant update to the data published alongside Robitaille (2017, R17). It contains the parameters shaping each model and adds the newly calculated parameters of envelope mass, average dust temperature, disk stability, and line-of-sight extinction. It also makes explicit quantities, such as source luminosity, that were left implicit in the previous release. This set also convolves the SEDs with several new filters, primarily those on the James Webb Space Telescope, and adds a script to facilitate convolution of these models with additional filters as desired by users. All data included in Version 1.1 of the R17 set (the most recent) are included here.</p> <p>Like their predecessors, these models are versioned. Updates will be released as more models are completed or other changes are made.</p> <p>Files unzip to r+24_models-{version}/{geometry}. "files.tar.gz" contains scripts for SED convolution and main sequence comparison, the opacity to absorption of dust used in the radiative transfer calculations, main sequence T/L values used for results in the accompanying work, and reference material for the contents of the dataset and latest version.</p> <p>The primary use of these models is as templates for SED fitting. The R17 models were structured for use with the <a href="https://sedfitter.readthedocs.io/en/stable/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sedfitter</a> python package, which enables fitting and analysis of the fit results. RAYUELA - Open Data - Data collected through a serious game created to identify patterns and profiles of young potential victims/perpetrators of cybercrimes.
<p>The data of this dataset have been collected in the pilots carried out by the RAYUELA project in different countries of the European Union. The participants are minors and the game sessions have been carried out in schools and summer camps in a supervised way.</p>
Compiled database, code and raw data for the article "A Comprehensive Database of Leaf Temperature, Water, and CO2 Fluxes in Young Oil Palm Plants Across Diverse Climate Scenarios for the Evaluation of Functional-Structural Models"
<p>This dataset results from an experiment on young oil palm plants (<em>Elaeis guineensis</em>) in the Ecotron facility from CNRS in Montpellier. Four plants were put in a microcosm one by one with varying climatic conditions to investigate the effect of climate on leaf temperature, CO2, and H2O fluxes at the plant scale. The conditions were defined based on typical daily conditions from a location where it is grown (Libo, Indonesia), <em>i.e.</em>, a day with no rainfall and near-average air temperature and humidity.
