The cladogram is simplified from the strict consensus of nine most parsimonious trees (tree length 1,255; consistency index 0.35; retention index 0.75; see Supplementary Information). Scansoriopterygidae is defined as the least inclusive clade including Epidendrosaurus and Epidexipteryx, Avialae as the most inclusive clade including Vultur gryphus but not Deinonychus antirrhopus, and Aves as the least inclusive clade including Archaeopteryx and Vultur gryphus.
