Raw data for publication Vaccination of elms against Dutch elm disease – are the associated epiphytes and endophytes affected?

The raw datasets accompany manuscript titled " Vaccination of elms against Dutch elm disease – are the associated epiphytes and endophytes affected?", submitted by co-authors to Journal of Fungi. The data were collected to evaluate the potential impact of Dutch Trig ® vaccination treatment on two groups of associated biodiversity in elms (Ulmus species), specifically, epiphytes (mainly lichens) and endophytic fungi, on two sites in Sweden, Stockholm and Gotland. The studies were conducted in spring term of 2022. Epiphyte coverage was assessed visually from four cardinal sites of 17 vaccinated (since 2011) and as many unvaccinated, healthy elms. Endophytic fungi were studied using a culture-dependent approach that results in cultures growing on agar plates. These isolates were assigned to morphotaxa groups (proxy for taxonomic groups) based on morphological traits. The growth rate of each isolate was assessed on a 3-step scale (low, medium or fast growth).

Dataset of vascular epiphytes in Colombia

We compiled a dataset of 726,578 records of epiphytic species in Colombia, integrating a comprehensive epiphyte list from different primary sources, all records are available through GBIF (https://doi.org/10.15468/dl.rk4z6u) . We performed a data cleaning according to the SiB Colombia data lab, which includes the elimination of duplicates, taxonomic, geographic and temporal revision. All data were standardized to Darwin Core format and are UTF-8 encoded.

The execution of this dataset was possible thanks to the support of GBIF, the European Union, BID Caribbean, SiB Colombia and the Botanical Garden "Joaquin Antonio Uribe" of Medellin. This dataset is part of the project "Collections-based data for conservation actions: engaging decision-making actors to save globally threatened epiphytes in Colombia" and was sponsored by GBIF, BID Caribe and the European Union under grant BID-CA2020-047-USE.

For more information see the project page: https://www.gbif.org/project/BID-CA2020-047-USE/collections-based-engagement-of-decision-makers-to-save-globally-threatened-epiphytes-in-colombia
