PsPM-FSS6B: SCR and PSR measurements in a delay fear conditioning task with somatosensory CS and electrical US

<p>This dataset includes skin conductance response (SCR) and pupil size response (PSR) measurements. Also included are CS and US information, keypress responses, keypress response times and key correctness for each of 18 healthy unmedicated participants (10 males and 8 females aged 25.7+/-5.0 years) participating in a classical (Pavlovian) discriminant delay fear conditioning task. Simple and complex CS are delivered to the intermediate phalanges of the index and middle fingers of the non-dominant hand. Simple stimuli are stimulations to either index or middle finger, complex stimuli are stimulations of different temporal structure to both index and middle fingers. CS intensity is set to a perceivable but not unpleasant level. US is a train of electric square pulses delivered with a constant current stimulator (Digitimer DS7A, Digitimer, Welwyn Garden City, UK) on participants&#39; dominant forearm through a pin-cathode/ring-anode configuration. SOA between the CS and US is 3.5 s. The ITI is randomly determined on each trial to be 7, 9, or 11 s.</p>

Alpha-2 Adrenoreceptor Antagonist Yohimbine Potentiates Consolidation of Conditioned Fear (Open Data and Open Materials)

<p><strong>Open Data and Open Materials of:&nbsp;Sperl, M. F. J., Panitz, C., Skoluda, N., Nater, U. M., Pizzagalli, D. A., Hermann, C., &amp; Mueller, E. M. (2022). Alpha-2 adrenoreceptor antagonist yohimbine potentiates consolidation of conditioned fear. <em>International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology</em>,&nbsp;25(9), 759&ndash;773.</strong></p> <p><em>Background:</em> Hyperconsolidation of aversive associations and poor extinction learning have been hypothesized to be crucial in the acquisition of pathological fear. Previous animal and human research points to the potential role of the catecholaminergic system, particularly noradrenaline and dopamine, in acquiring emotional memories. Here, we investigated in a between-participants design with 3 groups whether the noradrenergic alpha-2 adrenoreceptor antagonist yohimbine and the dopaminergic D2-receptor antagonist sulpiride modulate long-term fear conditioning and extinction in humans.<br><em>Methods:</em> Fifty-five healthy male students were recruited. The final sample consisted of n = 51 participants who were explicitly aware of the contingencies between conditioned stimuli (CS) and unconditioned stimuli after fear acquisition. The participants were then randomly assigned to 1 of the 3 groups and received either yohimbine (10 mg, n = 17), sulpiride (200 mg, n = 16), or placebo (n = 18) between fear acquisition and extinction. Recall of conditioned (non-extinguished CS+ vs CS&minus;) and extinguished fear (extinguished CS+ vs CS&minus;) was assessed 1 day later, and a 64-channel electroencephalogram was recorded.<br><em>Results:</em> The yohimbine group showed increased salivary alpha-amylase activity, confirming a successful manipulation of&nbsp;central noradrenergic release. Elevated fear-conditioned bradycardia and larger differential amplitudes of the N170 and late&nbsp;positive potential components in the event-related brain potential indicated that yohimbine treatment (compared with a&nbsp;placebo and sulpiride) enhanced fear recall during day 2.<br><em>Conclusions:</em> These results suggest that yohimbine potentiates cardiac and central electrophysiological signatures of fear&nbsp;memory consolidation. They thereby elucidate the key role of noradrenaline in strengthening the consolidation of conditioned fear associations, which may be a key mechanism in the etiology of fear-related disorders.</p>

PsPM-LI: SCR, ECG, PSR and respiration measurements in a delay fear conditioning task with auditory CS and electrical US.

<p>This dataset includes pupil size response (PSR), skin conductance response(SCR), electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration measurements for each of 20 healthy unmedicated participants (8 males and 12 females aged 22.8+/-3.3 years) participating in a classical (Pavlovian) discriminant delay fear conditioning task. (One additional participant in the initial sample in Korn et al. (2017) - but who did not finish the experiment and was not included into the analysis - is not contained in this dataset.) The acquisition data is separated into two sessions which were recorded consecutively with a break of approximately 5 min. CS consist of two sine tones with constant frequency (220 Hz or 440 Hz, 50-ms onset and offset ramp) and last for 6.5 s. US is a 0.5 s train of electric square pulses delivered with a constant current stimulator (Digitimer DS7A, Digitimer, Welwyn Garden City, UK) on participants&#39; dominant forearm through a pin-cathode/ring-anode configuration. Aquatic biofilm autotrohic index, carbon dioxide flux, and environmental conditions for the APEX water table experiment 2021-2023

To better understand linkages between hydrology and ecosystem carbon flux in northern aquatic ecosystems, we evaluated the relationship between plant communities, biofilm development, and carbon dioxide (CO2) exchange following long-term changes in hydrology in an Alaskan fen. We quantified seasonal variation in biofilm composition and CO2 exchange in response to lowered and raised water-table position (relative to a control) during years with varying levels of background dissolved organic carbon (DOC). We then used nutrient-diffusing substrates to evaluate cause-effect relationships between changes in plant subsidies (i.e., leachates) and biofilm composition among water-table treatments. We found that background DOC concentration determined whether plant subsidies promoted net autotrophy or heterotrophy on nutrient diffusing substrates. In conditions where background DOC was <= 40 mg L-1, plant subsidies promoted an autotrophic biofilm. Conversely, when background DOC concentration was >= 50 mg L-1, plant subsidies promoted heterotrophy. Greater light attenuation associated with elevated levels of DOC may have overwhelmed the stimulatory effect of nutrients on autotrophic microbes by constraining photosynthesis while simultaneously allowing heterotrophs to outcompete autotrophs for available nutrients. At the ecosystem level, conditions that favored an autotrophic biofilm resulted in net CO2 uptake among all water-table treatments, whereas the site was a net source of CO2 to the atmosphere in conditions that supported greater heterotrophy. Taken together, these findings show that hydrologic history interacts with changes in dominant plant functional groups to alter biofilm composition, which has consequences for ecosystem CO2 exchange.

Tree Health Conditions (mortality, damage, disease, bark beetles) in Fuel Reduction Treatments Located Near Communities in Interior Alaska and the Cook Inlet Region of Alaska - Observations from July-August 2023

This dataset contains tree-, transect-, and site-level observations of forest stands at sites that received a fuel reduction treatment. Tree-level observations include species, diameter, living status, damage, disease, and bark beetle presence. Transect-level observations include level of coarse woody debris and bark beetle presence. Sites are categorized by region (recent/ongoing spruce beetle oubreak or endemic spruce beetle population levels) and treatment type (hand-thinned or mechanincally felled and masticated). These observations are from July-August 2023. Sites are located near communities in Interior Alaska and the Cook Inlet Region.

MCR LTER: Coral Reef: Population Dynamics: Symbiodinium population initial sampling conditions in corals of Moorea

These data consist of sample collection locations and conditions only, not the results of sequencing. These data were an initial collection of an expected time series which was not repeated. Clade data derived from the sample collection described here are archived on GeoSymbio. Coral are symbiotic with photosynthetic dinoflagellates from the genus Symbiodinium. There are eight divergent clades (A-H) within the genus which each contain many genetic varieties. Different types of Symbiodinium have been shown to affect the growth rate and thermal tolerance of the coral. The diversity and population structure of Symbiodinium on a reef and how it changes over time is therefore critical to the stability and resilience of coral reefs. Our research conducted through the MCR LTER project aims at defining the population structure of Symbiodinium present in the corals of Moorea and documenting changes over time. This material is based upon work supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation under Grant No. OCE 16-37396 (and earlier awards) as well as a generous gift from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. MCR LTER: Coral Reef: Spatial portfolios in coral metapopulations are shaped by spatiotemporal asynchrony in environmental conditions; Data for Srednick et al., 2026 Ecology Letters

Using wavelet analyses of a 19-year coral community timeseries from Moorea, French Polynesia, we quantified timescale-specific population synchrony in four common coral genera and evaluated the predictors of spatial portfolio effects. We detected synchrony within genera associated with synchrony in degree heating days, diurnal temperature range (DTR), and macroalgal cover at different timescales. Synchrony in DTR and macroalgal cover was associated with lower synchrony of Pocillopora and Porites populations, respectively. Population (for three of four genera) and environmental synchrony were stronger within than among habitats across timescales, underscoring the role of habitat-specific conditions in driving spatial synchrony and spatial portfolios. These results describe how the spatial and temporal scales of heterogeneity in environmental and ecological conditions determine synchrony in coral population dynamics and support a spatial portfolio effect, which may buffer coral metapopulations from island-scale collapse. Also included are CS and US information, and ratings of CS after the experiment. Simple and complex CS were simple sine tones (4 s), and triads in root position or in first inversion, respectively. US was a train of electric square pulses delivered with a constant current stimulator (Digitimer DS7A, Digitimer, Welwyn Garden City, UK) on participants&#39; dominant forearm through a pin-cathode/ring-anode configuration. After the fear conditioning task, participants were first asked to report their subjective estimate of how likely they were to receive a shock after a given CS in the future, on a visual analogue scale of 0-100. Then they were asked to rate pairs of CS sounds with respect to which of the two stimuli they liked less.</p>

Learning Dynamics of Electrophysiological Brain Signals During Human Fear Conditioning (Open Data and Open Materials)

<p><strong>Open Data and Open Materials of: Sperl, M. F. J.,&nbsp;Wroblewski, A., Mueller, M., Straube, B., &amp; Mueller, E. M. (2021).&nbsp;Learning Dynamics of Electrophysiological Brain Signals During Human Fear Conditioning.&nbsp;<em>NeuroImage</em>,&nbsp;<em>226</em>, 117569.</strong></p> <p>Electrophysiological studies in rodents allow recording neural activity during threats with high temporal and spatial precision. Although fMRI has helped translate insights about the anatomy of underlying brain circuits to humans, the temporal dynamics of neural fear processes remain opaque and require EEG. To date, studies on electrophysiological brain signals in humans have helped to elucidate underlying perceptual and attentional processes, but have widely ignored how fear memory traces&nbsp;<em>evolve</em>&nbsp;over time. The low signal-to-noise ratio of EEG demands aggregations across high numbers of trials, which will wash out transient neurobiological processes that are induced by learning and prone to habituation. Here, our goal was to unravel the plasticity and temporal emergence of EEG responses during fear conditioning. To this end, we developed a new sequential-set fear conditioning paradigm that comprises three successive acquisition and extinction phases, each with a novel CS+/CS- set. Each set consists of two different neutral faces on different background colors which serve as CS+ and CS-, respectively. Thereby, this design provides sufficient trials for EEG analyses while tripling the relative amount of trials that tap into more transient neurobiological processes. Consistent with prior studies on ERP components, data-driven topographic EEG analyses revealed that ERP amplitudes were potentiated during time periods from 33&ndash;60 ms, 108&ndash;200 ms, and 468&ndash;820 ms indicating that fear conditioning prioritizes early sensory processing in the brain, but also facilitates neural responding during later attentional and evaluative stages. Importantly, averaging across the three CS+/CS- sets allowed us to probe the temporal evolution of neural processes: Responses during each of the three time windows gradually increased from early to late fear conditioning, while long-latency (460&ndash;730 ms) electrocortical responses diminished throughout fear extinction. Our novel paradigm demonstrates how short-, mid-, and long-latency EEG responses change during fear conditioning and extinction, findings that enlighten the learning curve of neurophysiological responses to threat in humans.</p>

DuneFront deliverable D4.1 - Physical boundary conditions over European coasts

<p>The European project DuneFront (<a href="https://dunefront.eu">https://dunefront.eu</a>, <a href="https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101135410">https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101135410</a>) is working to improve coastal protection across Europe by using Nature-based Solutions (NbS), such as Dune-Dike hybrids (DD-hybrids), to defend coastlines from extreme weather and rising sea levels. Within this project, this &ldquo;Physical Boundary Conditions&rdquo; deliverable focuses on collecting and mapping key physical boundary conditions that affect the effectiveness of these solutions. The aim was to create a consistent, Europe-wide, high-quality dataset that helps understand how DD-hybrids are, and will be, affected by waves, tides, weather patterns, and climate change. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>The dataset is made of 5 geopackage files, each duplicated in csv format for accessibility. See the deliverable report (pdf) for detailed information on each file, use notes, and literature references. We explicitly recommend the use of the gpkg files over csv for any GIS application, for reasons that are detailed in the report.</p>

PsPM-FER01: PSR, SCR, ECG and respiration measurements from a discriminant delay fear conditioning task with visual CS and electrical US.

<p>This dataset includes pupil size response (PSR), skin conductance response (SCR), electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration measurements. Also included are CS and US information and shock expectancy ratings at the end of the experiment for 30 healthy unmedicated participants (12 males and 18 females aged 23.9+/-4.4 years) participating in a classical (Pavlovian) discriminant delay fear conditioning task. Fear acquisition consisted of 10 CS- and 32 CS+ trials (16 CSa+/16 CSb+). Half of the CS+ trials were paired with an electric shock. CS were colored triangles (yellow/red/blue). US consisted of a 500 ms train of 250 square pulses with individual pulse width of 0.2 ms. SOA between the CS onset and US was 3.5 seconds. CS and US co-terminated. The ITI was randomly determined as discrete values between 7-11 seconds (mean 9 seconds).</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Chemical sensors for fire detection and nuisance rejection under EN-5420 standard conditions and reduced-scale chamber

<p>The dataset was acquired using a gas sensor array placed in the celling of a validated standard fire room (240 m3) located in Minimax Company. The dataset includes measurements of three different campaigns that were performed over 15 months. &nbsp;The dataset includes standard EN-54 smoldering fires and non-standard smoldering fires (such as plastic fires; PVC, cables Fire). In order to generate scenarios that may result in false-positive alarms when gas sensors are used, different nuisance experiments were also performed (such as cleaners, and air fresheners). Additionally, an additional measurement campaign was performed in a small chamber. An experimental data set on the thermal and fluid dynamic performance of double skin facades (DSFs) subjected to various controlled boundary conditions through the use of a climate simulator facility

<p>Double skin facades (DSFs) are building envelope systems defined by complex phenomena and non-linear-processes that make characterizing their performance a non-trivial task. In an effort to enable the scientific community to access experimental data for further analysis or model validation purposes, we release together with the open-access paper entitled &ldquo;<strong><em>Laboratory testbed and methods for flexible characterization of the thermal and fluid dynamic behavior of double skin facades&rdquo; (</em></strong><a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.buildenv.2021.108700"><strong><em>https://doi.org/10.1016/j.buildenv.2021.108700</em></strong></a><strong><em>)</em></strong>, a set of experimental data collected during tests carried out with the use of the newly developed testbed. The data contains the results of a series of tests where various configurations of a full-scale DSF mock-up that have been subjected to different boundary conditions replicated in a climate simulator. The database contains a guide in the form of the file &lsquo;Guide.pdf&rsquo;, which explains how to read data, presents a schematic drawing of sensor layout, and provides more information on sensors&rsquo; positions. Further information on the original aims of the experiments, methods, and other data can be found in the article mentioned above, which becomes an essential tool to understand how to read and interpret the experimental data fully. An experimental data set for the analysis of the thermophysical behavior of a single-story naturally ventilated double-skin façade (DSF) under summer boundary conditions

<p>Double-skin facades (DSFs) are adaptive building envelope elements that offer the possibility to dynamically interact with the heat and mass flow between indoor and outdoor environments. Though designed to provide better performance compared to more conventional envelope solutions, these fa&ccedil;ade systems may, in some cases, underperform and lead to an increase in energy use or in thermal discomfort if not properly designed and operated. One of the known problems is the risk of overheating, in hot periods, in the ventilated cavity. In order to analyze this effect, we have systematically investigated the performance of a single-story, naturally ventilated DSF. The DSF is operated in the so-called outdoor air curtain mode and has venetian blinds installed in the 20 mm deep ventilated cavity. Tests were carried out under a steady-state regime corresponding to relevant summertime conditions. In an effort to enable the scientific community to access experimental data to analyze this problem further or for model validation purposes, we released together with the open-access paper entitled &quot;<strong>Characterization of a naturally ventilated double-skin fa&ccedil;ade through the design of experiments (DOE) methodology in a controlled environment</strong>,&quot; the entire set of experimental data collected during the tests. The data set contains the results of a series of experimental runs where different configurations of the DSF, as detailed below, have been subjected to various boundary conditions through a climate simulator facility equipped with a solar simulator device. The database is supported by a guide (&quot;Guide.pdf&quot;), where further explanations about how to read data and schematic drawings of the sensor layout are provided. Additional information about the original aims of the experiments, the detailed methods, and other data processing procedures can be found in the article mentioned above. X-ray scattering data from Norway spruce at different moisture conditions

<p>This data includes small and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS, WAXS) intensities measured for Norway spruce (<em>Picea abies</em>) wood.</p> <p>The experiments were done in perpendicular transmission geometry, with the wood fiber axis roughly vertical and the radial direction of the wood tissue parallel to the X-ray beam, using a Xenocs Xeuss 3.0 C SAXS/WAXS device and Cu K-alpha radiation (wavelength 1.542 &Aring;). The scattering patterns were recorded using an EIGER2 R 1M detector (pixel size 75 &micro;m). The wood sample was measured first in wet state (saturated with water; &quot;Wet&quot;), and then equilibrated at different relative humidities (RH) in the following order: 95% (&quot;RH95_1st&quot;), 85% (&quot;RH85&quot;), 70% (&quot;RH70&quot;), 50% (&quot;RH50_1st&quot;), 20% (&quot;RH20&quot;), 10% (&quot;RH10&quot;), 50% (&quot;RH50_2nd&quot;), 95% (&quot;RH95_2nd&quot;). Dataset: Does vendor breeding colony influence sign- and goal-tracking in Pavlovian conditioned approach?

<p>Vendor differences are thought to affect Pavlovian conditioning in rats. After observing possible differences in sign-tracking and goal-tracking behaviour with rats from different breeding colonies, we performed an empirical replication of the effect. 40 male Long-Evans rats from Charles River colonies &lsquo;K72&rsquo; and &lsquo;R06&rsquo; received 11 Pavlovian conditioned approach training sessions (or &ldquo;autoshaping&rdquo;), with a lever as the conditioned stimulus (CS) and 10% sucrose as the unconditioned stimulus (US). Each 58-min session consisted of 12 CS-US trials. Paired rats (n = 15/colony) received the US following lever retraction. Unpaired control rats (n = 5/colony) received sucrose during the inter-trial interval. Next, we evaluated the conditioned reinforcing properties of the CS, by determining whether rats would learn to nose-poke into a new, active (vs. inactive) port to receive CS presentations alone (no sucrose). Preregistered confirmatory analyses showed that during autoshaping sessions, Paired rats made significantly more CS-triggered entries into the sucrose port (i.e., goal-tracking) and lever activations (sign-tracking) than Unpaired rats did, demonstrating acquisition of the CS-US association. Confirmatory analyses showed no effects of breeding colony on autoshaping. During conditioned reinforcement testing, analysis of data from Paired rats alone showed significantly more active vs. inactive nosepokes, suggesting that in these rats, the lever CS acquired incentive motivational properties. Analysing Paired rats alone also showed that K72 rats had higher Pavlovian Conditioned Approach scores than R06 rats did. &nbsp;Thus, breeding colony can affect outcome in Pavlovian conditioned approach studies, and animal breeding source should be considered as a covariate in such work.Vendor differences are thought to affect Pavlovian conditioning in rats.
