Synthesis of antibacterial gold nanoparticles with different particle size using chlorogenic acid

This study proposes a strategy for the rapid and simple synthesis of gold nanoparticles (CGA-AuNPs) with different particle size using trisodium citrate (TSC) as the first reducing agent and chlorogenic acid (CGA) as the second reducing agent. And the antibacterial activity of CGA-AuNPs with different particle size in vitro was verified by measuring the growth curves of Escherichia coli (E. coli ATCC 25922) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus ATCC 25923). The CGA-AuNPs obtained by analysis of transmission electron microscope (TEM) images and UV-visible Spectra were mainly spherical, and the average diameters were 18.94±1.81nm, 30.42±6.32nm, 37.86±3.80nm, 48.72±6.47nm respectively. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) showed that these nanoparticles were polycrystalline gold structures. Both of CGA-AuNPs and CGA have excellent antibacterial activity, and CGA-AuNPs with small particle size has a stronger antibacterial effect than the larger one. UV-visible absorption spectrum data revealed that the synthesized CGA-AuNPs without adding other stabilizing agent were well maintained even after 26 days. This work provides a special idea to regulate the size of CGA-AuNPs with CGA by chemical synthesis, and the strong antibacterial activity of these CGA-AuNPs may be applied in the field of antibacterial in the future.

Targeted color design of silver-gold alloy nanoparticles

This is the raw data for the manuscript:

Targeted color design of silver-gold alloy nanoparticles

Abstract:

This research article focuses on the targeted color design of silver-gold alloy nanoparticles (NPs), employing a multivariate optimization approach. NP synthesis involves interconnected process parameters, making independent variation challenging. Data-based property-process relationships are established to optimize optical properties effectively. We define a color target, employ a green chemical co-reduction method at room temperature and optimize process parameters accordingly. The CIEL*a*b* color space and Euclidean distances facilitate accurate color matching to establish the property-process relationship. Concurrently, theoretical Mie calculations explore the structure-property relationship across particle sizes, concentrations, and molar gold contents. The theoretically optimal structure agrees very well with experimental particle structures at the property-process relationship's optimum. The data-driven property-process relationship provides valuable insights into the formation mechanism of a complex particle system, sheds light on the role of relevant process parameters and allows to evaluate the practically available property space. Model validation beyond the original grid demonstrates its robustness, yielding colors close to the target. Additionally, Design of Experiments (DoE) methods reduce experimental work by threefold with slight accuracy trade-offs. Our novel methodology for targeted color design demonstrates how data-based methods can be utilized alongside structure-property relationships to unravel property-process relationships in the design of complex nanoparticle systems and paves the way for future developments in targeted property design.

All data are sorted according to their appearance in the figures of the main manuscript.

Tailoring the reaction pathway for control of size and composition of silver-gold alloy nanoparticles

This is the raw data for the manuscript:

Tailoring the reaction pathway for control of size and composition of silver-gold alloy nanoparticles

Abstract:

In this work, we focus on tuning both the particle size and chemical composition of bimetallic silver-gold alloy nanoparticles (NPs) by carefully controlling the reaction pathway. NP synthesis involves the control of the supersaturation profile in time and space. For the reaction-controlled case, this supersaturation profile is determined by a network of reactions leading to the build-up of the monomer concentration. Using a variety of characterization tools, we show how the process conditions influence the coupled reactions in the complex formation mechanism of silver-gold alloy NPs. Applying a simple mass balance allows for the independent control of size and chemical composition of these NPs, yielding particles with constant composition and varying size in the range of 20 to 40 nm. A series of constant sizes and varying chemical compositions in the range of 10 % to 100 % molar gold content is also possible. Our new methodology shows an example of how reaction networks can be tailored to achieve targeted NP properties and paves the way for better control in the synthesis of multicomponent NPs.

All data are sorted according to their appearance in the figures of the main manuscript.

Gold nanoparticles interacting with synthetic lipid rafts: an AFM investigation

In this work, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) is employed for obtaining the first direct proof that citrated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) adsorb preferentially along the boundaries of lipid rafts. Multicomponent Supported Lipid Bilayers (SLBs) were used as synthetic model membranes to mimic the nanometric rafts that are known to characterize the plasma membrane.

Continuous Flow Synthesis and Simulation-Supported Investigation of Tunable Plasmonic Gold Patchy Nanoparticles

This is the dataset for the following manuscript "Continuous Flow Synthesis and Simulation-Supported Investigation of Tunable Plasmonic Gold Patchy Nanoparticles".

Abstract

Plasmonic nanoparticles have intriguing optical properties which make them suitable candidates for sensing or theranostic applications. Anisotropic patchy particles, where metal is locally deposited on the surface of a core particle, exhibit plasmon resonances that can be specifically adjusted for these applications. However, many existing synthesis routes are complex, yield too little material, or provide particles with limited optical tunability. In this work, we present a simple and scalable continuous flow synthesis of gold-on-polystyrene patchy particles with widely adjustable optical properties. By increasing the chloride concentration in the electroless deposition of gold, we slow down the redox reduction kinetics and obtain a dense patch morphology as well as a reduced nucleation rate. The latter is counteracted by introducing a low-level seeding approach where a small number of gold nanocrystals heterocoagulate with the core particles prior to patch growth. Seeding and patch growth are performed in a continuous flow set-up with two T-shaped milli-mixers. The resulting patchy particle samples exhibit a tunable dipolar plasmon peak between 600 nm and 1100 nm. We also investigate the structure-property relationship for our gold patchy particles using Finite Element Method simulations. After identifying a suitable patch shape model, we elucidate the influence of individual geometric parameters on the optical properties and show that the relationship holds true for a large range of patch coverages. Finally, we apply the relationship to explain the time-dependent change in the optical properties of as-synthesized patches by correlating it with the patch shape transformation revealed by electron microscopy.

The uploaded data are sorted by figure.
