3-CO Infographic – Strengthening Bio-based Systems Through Concise Consumer Communication
<p><strong>The 3-CO Project</strong></p><p>Our everyday choices matter!<br>You as a consumer play an essential role in the successful transition of Europe`s economy. By making conscious purchasing decisions you can support the switch from fossil to bio-based feedstock and help transform the EU economy from a linear (i.e. production to waste) to a circular one (i.e. a production-waste-production circle).</p><p>By changing your buying behaviour, you can put pressure on companies to foster sustainable solutions. By choosing bio-based options instead of fossil-based products, you can help bio-based industries to become more competitive and unlock the bioeconomy's full potential.</p><p>To make smart, informed and conscious buying decisions, we often rely on labels and certifications schemes. But the jungle of currently available sustainability and ecolabels makes their interpretation difficult. The 3-CO project will support consumers' purchasing decisions towards more sustainable bio-based solutions by developing actionable guidelines for label designs that reflect the needs of consumers and other stakeholders.</p><p><a href="https://3co-project.eu">https://3co-project.eu</a></p>
Infographics of six key aspects in the development of citizen science projects
<p>These six infographics describe six key aspects in the development of citizen science projects. The six key ideas are: co-creation, communities, tools and methods, data, ethics and inclusion, and action. Each infographics condensates several ideas and messages in three columns: why is the aspect is important, how can this aspect be further develop and finally a set of practical recommendations.</p> <p>The digital material is also available at the Universitat de Barcelona <a href="https://web.ub.edu/en/web/ciencia-ciutadana/">website</a> on citizen science. The material is being used in certified training activities on citizen science and developed by the <a href="http://www.ub.edu/opensystems/">OpenSystems</a> research group. The first use of this material is being done during a certified training program offered by IDP-ICE UB: Training in citizen science: Introduction and deepening in the development of participatory research projects with social commitment. It had a 10 h duration and it was oriented to a wide audience that mostly include universities staff, civil society organisations representatives, university students, and public administration staff.</p> <p>Infographics created under the CSNOW project with the Citizen Science Work Group of the IDP-ICE UB, coordinated by Josep Perelló with the support of Núria Coll-Bonfill. <p>The dataset of the emissions projections of the NDCs and current policies for the <strong>PBL Climate Pledge NDC tool:</strong> <a href="https://themasites.pbl.nl/o/climate-ndc-policies-tool/">https://themasites.pbl.nl/o/climate-ndc-policies-tool/</a></p> <p>The PBL Climate Pledge NDC tool addresses the following three key questions:</p> <p>1. What are the countries’ emissions projections for the NDCs for 2030?</p> <p>2. Will the projected aggregated impact of the fully implemented NDCs on global emissions, for 2030, be sufficient to achieve the target of staying well below 2 °C / 1.5 <sup>o</sup>C?</p> <p>3. Are countries on track to meet their original NDCs for the period up to 2030?</p> <p>To address these questions, the tool shows the projected impact of the emission reduction proposals (NDCs) and current policies, per country and globally, on greenhouse gas emissions up to 2030. This tool analyses the mitigation components of the NDCs of 144 of the 197 Parties (together representing about 95% of emissions in 2019). More specifically, the tool shows the effect of:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Pledges</strong>: national and global greenhouse gas emission projections for 2020, assuming that pledges will be fully achieved;</li> <li><strong>Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)</strong>: national and global greenhouse gas emission projections for 2030, assuming that NDCs will be fully achieved;</li> <li><strong>Current policies</strong>: the impact of national climate and energy policies on emission levels up to 2030 (at least, unless the policy specifies a later end date), for 25 major emitting countries and regions.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Recommended citation:</strong></p> <p>den Elzen, M.G.J., Dafnomilis, Hooijschuur, E., Nascimento, L., Kuramochi, T., Forsell, N., Gutiérrez, Z.A., Gusti (2024), Infographics PBL NDC Tool 2024. TRADE4SD Deliverable 2.3: Database and infographics on standards rapprochement: STCs and bilateral measure of distance on pesticides and antibiotics
<p><span>One of the objectives of the Horizon2020 project “TRADE4SD” is to offer policy recommendations for improving trade policies at the national, European, and global levels, including reforms to the WTO, and to enhance policy alignment. To achieve this goal, it is essential to address the impact of NTMs, which, despite their increasing use, remain largely underexplored in terms of the effects on international trade. This limited understanding is due to the complexity of NTMs and their effects are difficult to generalise. Several critical areas related to NTMs and their implications for international trade require further investigation, which “TRADE4SD” seeks to address. This work explores how NTMs affect market access for developing countries, as these nations may face various challenges, such as limited capabilities, technological gaps, weaker infrastructures and institutions, and asymmetric information. More specifically, “TRADE4SD” aims to identify best practices for improving the management of SPS, which are essential for enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural and food exports. Strengthening SPS capacity is also vital for boosting productivity in the agricultural and food processing industries, contributing to agricultural and rural development, and helping to alleviate poverty. </span></p> <p><span>This deliverable consists of two main sections: one addressing Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) for pesticides and antibiotics and the other focusing on Specific Trade Concerns (STCs). </span></p> <p><span>In the first section, we analysed the regulations and then acquired and processed the data to create the databases, which we later used to develop the indices and infographics (for both pesticides and antibiotics).</span></p> <p><span>In the STCs section, we analysed WTO documentation on all open disputes and verified their status. During our analysis, we identified the relationships between STCs and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Finally, we developed the infographics.</span></p>

Science Communication Webinar Series: Designing Infographics Presentation
<p>Blue-Action coordinated a series of webinars on climate science communication in 2020. These were aimed at early-career researchers, but anyone who wishes to engage people with their research at any stage will find them valuable.</p> <p>This webinar was delivered on 17th July 2020 by <a href="https://www.sams.ac.uk/people/professional-services/harvey-will/#:~:text=Will%20Harvey&text=As%20a%20member%20of%20SAMS,intranet%20and%20asset%20management%20tools.&text=will.harvey%40sams.ac,%2B44%20(0)1631%20559327">Will Harvey</a>, who is a web and graphic designer at the <a href="https://www.sams.ac.uk/">Scottish Association for Marine Science.</a> Will spent over a decade as a graphic designer in industry, before moving to academia. Open Access Infographic: Open vs. Closed Access
<p>The infographic illustrates that open access enables the public and scientists to freely access publications and thus research results. Although research is often funded by taxpayers' money, access to closed access remains subject to a fee. Even researchers only have indirect access via their institutions, which have to subscribe to the relevant journals.
