High-efficient fabrication of core-shell-shell structured SiO2@GdPO4:Tb@SiO2 nanoparticles with improved luminescence
<p>SiO2@GdPO4:Tb@SiO2 nanoparticles with core-shell-shell structure were successfully synthesized by a cheap silane coupling agent grafting method at room temperature. This method not only homogeneously coated rare earth phosphate nanoparticles on the surface of silica spheres, but also saved the use of rare earth resources. The obtained nanoparticles are consisted of SiO2 core with a diameter of ~210 nm, GdPO4:Tb intermediate shell with thickness of ~7 nm, and SiO2 outer shell with thickness of ~20 nm. This unique core-shell-shell structured nanoparticles exhibited strong luminescence properties compared with GdPO4:Tb nanoparticles. The core-shell-shell structured nanoparticles can effectively quench the intrinsic fluorescence of bovine serum albumin (BSA) through a static quenching mode. The as-synthesized nanoparticles show great potential in biological cell imaging and cancer treatment.</p>
Data from: Synthesis and photoluminescence properties of silica-modified SiO2@ANA-Si-Tb@SiO2, SiO2@ANA-Si-Tb-L@SiO2 core-shell-shell nanostructured composites
Three novel core-shell nanostructured composites SiO2@ANA-Si-Tb, SiO2@ANA-Si-Tb-L (L = second ligand) with SiO2 as the core and terbium organic complex as the shell were successfully synthesized. The core and shell were connected together by covalent bonds. The terbium ion was coordinated with organic ligand forming terbium organic complex in the shell layer. The organosilane (HOOCC5H4NN(CONH(CH2)3Si(OCH2CH3)3)2 (abbreviated as ANA-Si) was used as the first ligand and 1, 10-phenanthroline (phen) or 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) was used as the second ligand. Furthermore, silica-modified SiO2@ANA-Si-Tb@SiO2, SiO2@ANA-Si-Tb-L@SiO2 core-shell-shell nanostructured composites were also synthesized by sol-gel chemical route, which involved the hydrolysis and polycondensation processes of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) using cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as a surface-active agent. An amorphous silica shell was coated around the SiO2@ANA-Si-Tb, SiO2@ANA-Si-Tb-L core-shell nanostructured composites. The core-shell and core-shell-shell nanostructured composites exhibited excellent luminescence in solid state. Meanwhile, an improved luminescent stability property of the core-shell-shell nanostructured composites was observed for the aqueous solution. This type of core-shell-shell nanostructured composites exhibited bright luminescence, high stability and good solubility, which may present potential applications in the fields of optoelectronic devices, bio-imaging, medical diagnosis, and study on the structure of function composite materials.

Data from: TiO2–SiO2 supported MnWOx catalysts by liquid-phase deposition for low-temperature NH3-SCR
NH3-SCR is an environmentally important reaction for the abatement of NOx from different resources. MnO2-based catalyst has attracted significant attention due to the excellent activity. In this paper, a series of MnWOx/TiO2–SiO2 catalysts were prepared by liquid-phase deposition method. The catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption/ desorption, XRD, TEM, XPS, FT-IR, H2-TPR, TG and water adsorption capacity. The existence of SiO2 improved the SO2 and H2O resistance of the MnWOx/TiO2–SiO2 catalyst without decreasing the NH3-SCR activity. Under the reaction conditions of 2608C and 60 000 ml . gcata h21 GHSV, the NO conversion was kept stable at about 95% for 140 min on stream. The excellent performance of MnWOx/TiO2–SiO2 catalyst is considered to be originated from the texture properties and active species dispersion improvement by SiO2 in the support and low-temperature preparation.
An Investigation On The Use Of Au@SiO2@Au Nanomatryoshkas As Gap Enhanced Raman Tags Dataset
<p>Gap-enhanced Raman tags are a new type of optical probe that have wide applications in sensing and detection. A gap-enhanced Raman tag is prepared by embedding Raman molecules inside a gap between two plasmonic metals such as an Au core and Au shell. Even though placing Raman tags beneath an Au shell seems counter-intuitive, it has been shown that such systems produce a stronger surface-enhanced Raman scattering response due to the strong electric field inside the gap. While the theoretical support of the stronger electric field inside the gap was provided in the literature, a comprehensive understanding of how the electric field inside the gap compares with that of the outer surface of the particle was not readily available. We investigated Au@SiO$_2$@Au nanoparticles with diameters ranging from 35 nm to 70 nm with varying shell (2.5--10 nm) and gap (2.5--15 nm) thicknesses and obtained both far-field and near-field spectra. The extinction spectra from these particles always have two peaks. The low-energy peak redshifts with the decreasing shell thickness. However, when the gap thickness decreases, the low-energy peaks first blueshift and then redshift, producing a C-shape in the peak position. For every system we investigated, the near-field enhancement spectra were stronger inside the gap than on the outer surface of the nanoparticle. We find that a thin shell combined with a thin gap will produce the greatest near-field enhancement inside the gap. Our work fills the knowledge gap between the exciting potential applications of gap-enhanced Raman tags and the fundamental knowledge of enhancement provided by the gap.</p>

Modeling SiO2 Ion Impurities Aging in Insulated Gate Power Devices Under Temperature and Voltage Stress
This paper presents a formal computational methodology to explain how the oxide in semiconductors degrades over time and the dependence of oxide degradation on voltage and temperature stresses. The effects of aging are modeled and quantified by modification of the gate-source capacitance value. The model output is validated using experimental results of a thermally aged power semiconductor device.
