Impact of stress regime change on the permeability of a naturally fractured carbonate buildup (Latemar, the Dolomites, northern Italy)_DATASET
<p>The datasets (original field photographs, drone images and finite-element modelling algorithms and results) presented here are drawn from the extensive fieldwork, and finite-element modelling of the impact of stress regime change on the permeability of a naturally fractured carbonate buildup (Latemar, the Dolomites, northern Italy) by the author(s). These datasets show different rock units in the Latemar platform riddled with diverse structural elements, including fractures (veins, joints, faults) and stylolites, and the results of the impact of the modelled far-field stresses at (i) subsidence deformation from the NW–SE and (ii) Alpine deformation from N–S. All of which increased the overall fracture aperture and permeability of the studied carbonate platform. </p> <p>In addition, the datasets are part of the paper titled "<strong>Impact of stress regime change on the permeability of a naturally fractured carbonate buildup (Latemar, the Dolomites, northern Italy)</strong>"<strong>, </strong>published<strong> </strong>in the Solid Earth Journal. </p> <p>The drone images are taken with DJI Phantom 4® and processed using Agisoft PhotoScan® - a photogrammetry tool. The workflow in processing the drone images is publicly available in the published work of Bisdom et al. (2017).</p>

Experimental data: Stress-transmissivity measurements on natural granite rock fracture subjected to compression
<p>This repository contains data generated during an experimental study focused on characterizing the hydro-mechanical properties of a natural fracture extracted from a granite rock mass and tested in laboratory conditions under varying normal compression stress. The hydraulic transmissivity of the fracture was initially inferred from flow measurements in the two perpendicular directions of the fracture for normal stresses up to 8 MPa. The fracture was then mechanically opened, surveyed, and reassembled, and the flow measurements repeated under normal stresses up to approximately 40 MPa. Laminar flow conditions were maintained throughout the investigation by ensuring very low Reynolds numbers. The dataset generated from the experiments encompasses measurements of the flow and hydraulic transmissivity of the fracture, fracture characteristics (mechanical and hydraulic aperture), and related test parameters (pressure, temperature, gradient, etc.). The data shed light on the hydro-mechanical behavior of low- to very-low-transmissivity fractures in situ. They are made openly available to support further hydrogeological investigations on low-permeability rock masses.</p> <p>To cite this dataset:</p> <blockquote> <p>Godio M., Jacobsson L. Fracture Dataset accompanying the manuscript 'Stress and Rock Failure Near Salt Bodies: Insights from Field Observations, Kinematic Modeling, and Mechanical Analysis in the Paradox Basin'
<p>This data repository supports the manuscript titled <em>"Stress and Rock Failure Near Salt Bodies: Insights from Field Observations, Kinematic Modeling, and Mechanical Analysis in the Paradox Basin,"</em> submitted to the <em>Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth</em>. It contains comprehensive fracture data with location coordinates referenced in the NAD83 UTM Zone 12N system. Orientation data is reported as dip and dip azimuth, and each data point is clearly labeled to indicate whether it was derived from field measurements or point cloud analyses.</p>
Datasets of in situ stress and fracture information of four deep scientific boreholes
<p>The data sets contain four MS Excel files with the in situ stress and fracture information from four deep scientific boreholes (Cajon Pass, Long Valley, Nevada Test Site (NTS), and German Continental Deep Drilling Program (KTB)). The raw data sets were originally provided by Prof. Mark Zoback at Stanford University, which are listed here to support 'Determination of the Crustal Friction and State of Stress in Deep Boreholes using Hydrologic Indicators' by S Zhang, X Ma, and M Zoback.</p> <p>In each Excel file, gradients of the three principal stresses (<em>S</em>V, <em>S</em>H, <em>S</em>h) and pore pressure are provided (unit: MPa / m), where is <em>S</em>V the (vertical) overburden stress, <em>S</em>H is the maximum horizontal stress, and <em>S</em>h is the minimum horizontal stress. The orientation (theta, measured from North) of <em>S</em>H is also given so that the in situ stress tensor is available for each borehole (interval).</p> <p>Fractures identified by acoustic televiewer (ATV) logs are listed with their depth, dip direction (from North), dip (from horizontal plane), and hydraulic conductivity. Based on the stress gradients, the shear and normal stresses of each fracture are also calculated and presented in each file. In particular, the hydraulic conductivity of each fracture is indexed by '0' (non-conductive/impermeable) or '1' (conductive/permeable), which was previously determined by temperature logs (Barton et al., 1995, Geology; Ito and Zoback, 2000, GRL).</p> <p>Citation:</p> <p> "Zhang, S., Ma, X., & Zoback, M.
