kDPRA trainig Video
<pre>The kinetic direct peptide reactivity assay (kDPRA) is an extension of the DPRA, which is already internationally recognized as Test Guideline No. 442C of the OECD. While the DPRA only provides information about a skin sensitizing potential, the kDPRA can also measure the potency, i.e. the effectiveness of skin sensitization. For this purpose, the reaction kinetics of peptide depletion are measured in the kDPRA. A distinction can be made between strong and weak skin-sensitizing effects, which are then classified according to CLP / GHS sub-categories 1A and 1B. In the kDPRA, the reaction kinetics of the reaction of the test substance with a synthetic cysteine-containing heptapeptide is evaluated. For this purpose, it is measured how much peptide reacts with different test substance concentrations after different reaction times. After the respective reaction time, the reaction is stopped by adding the highly reactive and non-fluorescent monobromobimane. This binds to peptides that have not reacted with the test substance, creating a fluorescent product that is quantified by fluorescence measurement. The peptide depletion, the amount of peptide that had reacted with the test substance, results from the difference between the peptide starting material and the fluorescent product. The reaction kinetic constant, k, is calculated by interpolation from the test substance concentration, reaction time and depletion matrix.</pre> <p>Wareing, Britta, et al. Video Analysis Scale of Engagement (VASE): Initial and Final Protocols
<p>These files contain the initial and final protocols that were used to develop the Video Analysis Scale for Engagement (VASE). The abstract of our article in Wellcome Open Research, 5:230: https://wellcomeopenresearch.org/articles/5-230/v2:</p> <p><strong>Background</strong>: The current study sought to develop a valid, reliable and unobtrusive tablet computer-based observational measure to assess engagement of people with advanced dementia. The Video Analysis Scale of Engagement (VASE) was designed to enable the rating of moment-by-moment changes in engagement during an activity, which would be useful for both future research and current residential care. <strong>Methods:</strong> An initial version of the VASE was tested. Face validity and content validity were assessed to validate an operational definition of engagement and develop an acceptable protocol for the scale. Thirty-seven non-professional and professional volunteers were recruited to view and rate level of engagement in music activities using the VASE. <strong>Results</strong>: An inter-class coefficient (ICC) test gave a high level of rating agreement across professionals and non-professionals. However, the ICC results of within-professionals were mixed. Linear mixed modelling suggested that the types of interventions (active or passive music listening), the particular intervention session being rated, time period of video and the age of raters could affect the ratings. <strong>Conclusions</strong>: Results suggested that raters used the VASE in a dynamic fashion and that the measure was able to distinguish between interventions. Further investigation and adjustments are warranted for this to be considered a valid and reliable scale in the measurement of engagement of people with advanced dementia in a residential care setting.</p>

Extreme to phenomenal storm wave impacts on a steep rocky coast, north Mayo, Ireland: video data, image analysis, runup and flow velocity calculations for waves of storms Fionn and Gareth.
<p>The primary data are video (.mp4) files of extreme storm wave impacts on the sites of high elevation (>=20m above high water mark) coastal boulder deposits, recorded during storms Fionn (16/01/2018) and Gareth (12/03/2019), at (54.320355, -9.569633) on the north Mayo coast of Ireland, while the significant wave height was in the range [11m,14m]. There are also .png and .jpg files derived from frames of some of the videos, relating to the analysis of the impacting wave kinematics (runup/landward propagation and flow velocities), together with physical measurements for scale determination and runup/velocity/measurement uncertainty calculations in Excel. The files EventX.mp4 are the primary data for the wave impacts EventX. The files EventX_Frame_Y.jpg are frames sampled from EventX.mp4 at constant time intervals in the temporal vicinity of the impact. The files EventX_Edges_Y.png are the edges derived from the frames with the Canny edge detector. The files EventX_Registration_Y.jpg are the impacting wavefront edges with topographical edges registered on the file ReferenceImage.jpg The files EventX.jpg are the stacked registrations for all Y, from which the impact kinematics are derived. The file Scale_Registration_Position_Velocity_Measurements_AndUncertainty.xlsx contains physical measurements for scale determination, measurements of registration error, and the calculations of impact runup/landward displacement and flow velocities, with their uncertainties. The files JetX_Leacht_a_Chúil.mp4/g are videos of large jet-producing impacts at another site.</p> <p>The files DSCN0066.MP4-DSC0085.MP4 are the raw video observations of Storm Gareth, recorded from 15:35-18:41 UT on 12 March 2019 with a Nikon Coolpix W100, while the significant wave height increased from 12m to in excess of 14m (the timestamp of these videos in Properties->Details->Media Created is one hour later than the UT of creation, because the camera's clock was set to Irish Summer Time). The file GPO15366.MP4 is an example of the GoPro (Hero 5) videos recorded simultaneously.</p>
An Empirical Evaluation of Video Conferencing Systems Used in Industry, Academia, and Entertainment
<p>Video Conferencing Systems~(VCS) are used daily--at work, in online education, and for get-togethers with friends and family. Many new VCSs have emerged in the past decade and a new market-leader has risen during the coronavirus period of 2020. Understanding how these systems work could help us improve them rapidly. However, no experimental comparison of such systems currently exists. </p> <p>We propose a method to compare VCSs in real-world operation and implement it as a tool. Our method considers 4 main real-world experiments. Each captures different aspects, such as communication channels~(audio, video, audio-video), types of network environments~(e.g., Ethernet, WiFi, 4G), and reports system and network utilization. We conduct real-world experiments with 3 VCSs, Zoom, Microsoft Team, and Discord.</p> <p>This dataset is the result of our experiments conducted with the Online Video Conference Benchmarking tool.</p>

Data from: Grand Theft Empathy? Evidence for the absence of effects of violent video games on empathy for pain and emotional reactivity to violence
<p><strong>Abstract:</strong></p><p>Influential accounts claim that violent video games (VVG) decrease players' emotional empathy by desensitizing them to both virtual and real-life violence. However, scientific evidence for this claim is inconclusive and controversially debated. To assess the causal effect of VVGs on the behavioral and neural correlates of empathy and emotional reactivity to violence, we conducted a prospective experimental study using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). We recruited eighty-nine male participants without prior VVG experience. Over the course of two weeks, participants played either a highly violent video game, or a non-violent version of the same game. Before and after this period, participants completed an fMRI experiment with paradigms measuring their empathy for pain and emotional reactivity to violent images. Applying a Bayesian analysis approach throughout enabled us to find substantial evidence for the absence of an effect of VVGs on the behavioral and neural correlates of empathy. Moreover, participants in the VVG group were not desensitized to images of real-world violence. These results imply that short and controlled exposure to VVGs does not numb empathy nor the responses to real-world violence. We discuss the implications of our findings regarding the potential and limitations of experimental research on the causal effects of VVGs. While VVGs might not have a discernible effect on the investigated subpopulation within our carefully controlled experimental setting, our results cannot preclude that effects could be found in special vulnerable subpopulations, or in settings with higher ecological validity.<br> </p><p><strong>Dataset:</strong><br>This dataset contains the fMRI data collected for the study in the BIDS-format (https://bids.neuroimaging.io/)</p><ul><li>functional neuroimaging (*_bold.nii.gz) data of 89 human participants, collected during two tasks:<ul><li>Empathy-for-Pain paradigm (Session 1 & 2)</li><li>Emotional Reactivity paradigm (Session 2)</li></ul></li><li>associated event files (*_events.tsv) containing event onsets, durations, and behavioral covariates</li><li>metadata</li></ul><p>FMRI bold timeseries are fully preprocessed, as described in the manuscript.</p><p>Additional data, such as behavioral data in a simpler format, can be accessed on https://osf.io/yx423/</p><p> </p>

The Audio and Video Files of Handbook of Japanese Basic Verbs
<p>"KIHONDOUSHI HANDBOOK (Handbook of Japanese Basic Verbs) [基本動詞ハンドブッ ク] is a digital reference resource developed by the members of three collaborative research projects funded by the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics (NINJAL), Tokyo, Japan during Oct. 2009 to March 2022. The reference work was developed with an aim to deepen the understanding of highly polysemous basic verbs in Japanese by way of providing detailed description of syntax and semantics of multiple meanings of the verb in question. To foster the ease of understanding, each meaning of a polysemous basic verb is illustrated with a couple of illustrative examples with audio and a few meanings, which are deemed to be difficult to understand, are illustrated with the help of audio-visual animations. The handbook consists of 190 headwords and includes 2,154 meanings, 12, 492 illustrative examples with audio and 521 audio-visual animations. On this site the audio and video files of the handbook is made available for researchers, teachers, and learners of Japanese language for the purpose of research on and education of Japanese polysemous basic verbs. Other data such as headword data will be available from the NINJAL repository site very soon.</p>
Sheep videos taken from drone at low altitude
<p>The data below are part of the European H2020 project ICAERUS regarding the livestock monitoring use case. More information here : https://icaerus.eu/</p> <p>Counting sheep is particularly challenging for farmers with thousand of animals in a flock. Our objective is to develop methodology based on computer vision to counting sheep when they are passing in a corridor to coming back in a park or a pen. This first dataset will support our work. </p> <p>The dataset encompasses 16 .MP4 videos from drone (DJI mavic 3 Enterprise or Thermal) of around 50 sheep crossing a gate. <br>The videos were taken from 5m to 10m of height and to an horizontal distance of the gate from 0m to 10m. </p> <p>More videos will be published in the next months.</p> <p>For more information, please contact: adrien.lebreton@idele.fr </p> <p>The authors are opened to any collaborations on this topic.</p>
Feasibility of 3D Body Tracking from Monocular 2D Video Feeds in Musculoskeletal Telerehabilitation
<p>Musculoskeletal conditions affect millions of people globally, however, conventional treatments pose challenges concerning price, accessibility, and convenience. Many telerehabilitation solutions offer an engaging alternative but rely on complex hardware for body tracking. This work explores the feasibility of models for 3D Human Pose Estimation (HPE) from monocular 2D videos (MediaPipe Pose) in a physiotherapy context, by comparing its performance to ground truth measurements. MediaPipe Pose was investigated in eight exercises typically performed in musculoskeletal physiotherapy sessions, where the Range of Motion (ROM) of the human joints was the evaluated parameter. This model showed the best performance for shoulder abduction, shoulder press, elbow flexion, and squat exercises (MAPE ranging between 14.9% and 25.0%, Pearson’s coefficient ranging between 0.963 and 0.996, and cosine similarity ranging between 0.987 and 0.999). Some exercises (e.g. seated knee extension and shoulder flexion) posed challenges due to unusual poses, occlusions and depth ambiguities, possibly related to a lack of training data. This study demonstrates the potential of HPE from monocular 2D videos, as a markerless, affordable and accessible solution for musculoskeletal telerehabilitation approaches. Future work should focus on exploring variations of the 3D HPE models trained on physiotherapy-related datasets, such as the Fit3D dataset, and post-preprocessing techniques to enhance the model's performance.</p>
