Dataset for proceedings paper: How international is co-authorship outside of Web of Science? The case of social sciences and humanities in Flanders, Belgium

This is an anonymized dataset containing data on international collaboration in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) in Flanders, Belgium. It is based on all peer-reviewed publications in VABB-SHW, regardless of their indexation in WoS or other databases.

The dataset accompanies the conference paper 'How international is co-authorship outside of Web of Science? The case of social sciences and humanities in Flanders, Belgium,' which was submitted to ISSI 2023.

Altmetric data of the documents from Web of Science with the affiliation to the Czech Republic

These datasets were generated for the master thesis with the title "Altmetrics and its use in the evaluation of scientific research" (in Czech "Altmetrie a její využití při hodnocení vědeckého výzkumu"), that was submitted in 2022 at the Institute Information Studies and Librarianship, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. There are 3 files, where the first one "Příloha_číslo_1-processed_data.xlsx" contains processed and analyzed data from the other two. "Příloha_číslo_2-data_altmetrics_Kvet_1st_download.csv" is the file with raw altmetric data downloaded on the 9/1/2022. "Příloha_číslo_3-data_altmetrics_Kvet_2st_download.csv" are the same data but downloaded two months later to see the difference.

Altmetric data came from PlumX and Altmetric.com aggregators. Before publishing them here there were completely anonymized so there is no possibility to assign them to particular research papers. Dataset contains altmetric data of the research documents published in the period from 2017 to 2021. All documents have affiliation to the Czech Republic.

The tool for collection and analyzation is available on Github here: https://github.com/kvetjo/Altmetrics_analyze_tool

Thesis reference in Czech:

KVĚT, Jonáš. Altmetrie a její využití při hodnocení vědeckého výzkumu [online]. Limnological topical words datasets from ASLO and Web of Science

These datasets include the number of counts of pre-identified words related to limnological research found in abstracts of research (oral presentations and poster) for freshwater research presented at the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) between 2004 and 2016. The raw data have been obtained from the Schneider group, and they have been summarized to build tables and figures in the associated Lapierre et al. paper (Limnology and Oceanography Letters. 2019). Additional datasets includes the number of counts of pre-identified words related to limnological research found in abstracts of articles found in Web of Science between 1994 and 2017. These data allowed us to compare research trends presented at ASLO meetings to those found in the scientific literature.

BIOFRUITNET - Boosting Innovation in Organic FRUIT production through knowledge NETworks - WP2 - Bibliographic search in Web of Science

In the project BIOFRUITNET (Boosting Innovation in Organic FRUIT production through knowledge NETworks, HORIZON 2020 Grant Agreement No. 862850), nine search strings covering stone fruits, pome fruits and citrus fruits, within the selected main topics: pests, plant diseases and plant nutrition were developed, to target the most relevant scientific literature within the topics. The bibliographic searches were conducted on October 19, 2020 in Web of Science. The databases presented are the complete lists of references included from the WoS search. These lists will be processed to select the most relevant materials ready for practice in a following project work package. Web of Science data for literature related to ecology and chemical pollution

This table lists the numerical results of Web of Science searches for papers published in the period between 2017 and 2021 in the “ecology” category (as defined by Web of Science), related to “global change” + selected factors (Temperature, Water, CO2) or pollution (represented by the terms “Synthetic chemical”, “Chemical pollution”, or “Contaminant”), or “biodiversity” + selected drivers for biodiversity loss (Land use, Climate change, Invasive species, Logging) or pollution (represented by the terms “Synthetic chemical”, “Chemical pollution”, or “Contaminant”)

Towards a plan S gap analysis: open access potential across disciplines using Web of Science and DOAJ

Dataset accompanying two blogposts:

https://101innovations.wordpress.com/2018/12/05/oa-potential-journals-and-publications-across-disciplines/

https://101innovations.wordpress.com/2018/12/05/gold-oa-journals-in-wos-and-doaj/

In the proposed implementation guidelines for Plan S, it has become clear there will be, for the coming years at least, three ways to open access (OA) that are compliant with Plan S:

publication in full open access journals and platforms

deposit in open access repositories of author accepted manuscript (AAM) or publisher version (VOR)

publishing in hybrid journals that are part of transformative agreements

Additional requirements concern copyright (copyright retention by authors or institutions), licensing (CC-BY, CC-BY-SA or CC0), embargo periods (no embargo's) and technical requirements for open access journals, platforms and repositories.

To get a first indication as to what that potential for open access is across different disciplines, we looked at a particular subset of journals, namely those in Web of Science. For a number of (sub)disciplines, we identified the proportion of full gold, hybrid and closed journals in Web of Science, as well as the proportion of hybrid and closed journals that allows green open access by archiving AAM/VOR in repositories. We also looked at the number of publications from 2017 (articles & reviews) that were actually made open access (or not) under each of these models.

We fully acknowledge the practical decision toi use Web of Science leads to limitation and bias in the results. In particular this concerns a bias against:

recently launched journals

non-traditional journal types

smaller journals not (yet) meeting the technical requirements of WoS

journals in languages other than English

journals from non-Western regions

To further explore this bias, and give context to the interpretation of results derived from looking at full gold OA journals in Web of Science only, we analyzed the inclusion of DOAJ journals in WoS per major discipline.

We also looked at the proportion of DOAJ journals (and articles/reviews therein) in different parts of the Web of Science Core Collection that we used: either in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) / Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) /Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI), or in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI).
