**Augustus III on horseback** The statue of Frederick Augustus II, the elector of Saxony also known as Augustus III, King of Poland, depicts the royal figure on a rearing horse. The statue sits on an architectural pedestal decorated with volutes and cartouches. The statue shows the rider sitting back quite deeply on the horse. Augusto pontefice massimo / Augustus
Questa statua raffigura Augusto (27 a.C.-14 d.C.) pontefice massimo (pontifex maximus). Indossa la toga sul capo ed i "calcei patricii" ai piedi come i sacerdoti nello svolgimento del sacrificio. Accanto a se' ha una "capsa" (contenitore per gli atti pubblici). La statua è una copia di età tiberiana di un ritratto dell'imperatore eseguito alla fine del I secolo a.C. o all'inizio del I d.C. I tratti somatici piuttosto marcati infatti suggerirebbero la realizzazione negli ultimi anni di vita, con i segni già visibili della malattia e della stanchezza.
