Predatory impact of benthic fishes in an Appalachian stream at the Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory in 1998
Streams are characterized by high degrees of patchiness that could influence the role of predators in these systems. Here we assess the impact of predatory benthic fishes on benthic macroinvertebrate density, biomass, and community structure at the patch scale in a fourth order stream in the southern Appalachians in 1998. We conducted this experiment from July to September 1998 in Ball Creek, a fourth order stream at the USDA Forest Service’s Coweeta Hydrological Laboratory, Otto, North Carolina. We tested the role of predation in two different patch types: patches inhabited by adult mottled sculpin (Cottus bairdi ) and random patches. We placed 30 basket pairs (one open to fish predation, and one from which fish predators were excluded) in the streambed at each patch type. We also tested for potential basket effects by setting up a basket control area.

Data for Cumulative hydrological impacts of forest disturbance follow the Law of Diminishing Returns
<p>This dataset supports the analysis of the manuscript, entitled "<span lang="EN-US">Long-term Cumulative Hydrological Effects of Forest Disturbances Follow the Law of Diminishing Returns in British Columbia, Canada</span>". It includes forest disturbance history, i.e., cumulative equivalent clear-cut area (CECA), hydrological sensitivities in the post-threshold period in the study watersheds, and the estiamted CECA at the upper limit and environmental variables. </p>

Hydrologic Impacts of Forest Disturbance, Conversion and Restoration
<p>A global database comparing the impacts of disturbance, conversion, and restoration of native forests on hydrological processes of great importance for water security. The database is focused on local comparisons or a limited number of hydrological processes and land-use types, spanning 1049 cases from 287 primary studies in 58 countries and 12 biomes. The database includes changes in six hydrological processes (i.e. interception, overland flow, evapotranspiration -total and as a share of rainfall, infiltration, and streamflow, and land-use types (logged, degraded, burned, clear-cut, and restored native forests, monoculture tree plantations, orchards/agroforestry areas, pasturelands, and croplands). Even this database is not focused on evaluating water balances or considers water closure regimes, values on these processes can be used as indicators of changes in water processes across native forest cover and other land use types.</p>
