BRAIN Journal-Personality Questionnaires as a Basis for Improvement of University Courses in Applied Computer Science and Informatics-Figure 5. Hierarchical clustering by scores across the EPQ–R scales for data about all the participants

The clusters were generated using an implementation of a hierarchical clustering algorithm available in the R environment (R, n.d.). The top three clusters were extracted from a hierarchical cluster tree shown in Figure 5, while the color of data points in the visualization shown in figure 4 was determined based on cluster labels. Hierarchical clusters could be used when investigating which students in the analyzed sample share similar personality traits. This could be especially useful for smaller student groups as the teacher may manually inspect the cluster tree and its leaves, which designate individual students. For instance, there are three students in cluster 3, who are represented within the tree in Figure 5 by identifiers 14, 22, and 24. The students with identifiers 14 and 22 are more closely linked and more similar to each other than to the student with identifier 24.

BRAIN Journal-Personality Questionnaires as a Basis for Improvement of University Courses in Applied Computer Science and Informatics-Figure 2. Comparison of mean scores on the EPQ–R scales

The data for the workshop participants were loaded from the data warehouse, while the summary data from the original EPQ–R study were loaded from a CSV file. The bar chart featured in Figure 2 shows mean scores on the EPQ–R scales for the selected workshop participants (denoted by blue bars) and the selected participants of the original EPQ–R study (denoted by yellow bars). The mean scores on the P scale agree between the two samples, but the overall scores for the other scales vary.

BRAIN Journal-Personality Questionnaires as a Basis for Improvement of University Courses in Applied Computer Science and Informatics-Figure 4. Radial visualization of scores across the EPQ–R scales for clustered data about all the participants

On the other hand, the division of data points by gender might not be the only useful strategy when visually inspecting the analyzed sample in a coordinate system. Numerous clustering algorithms may be used to determine which data points share similar scores across the EPQ–R scales, i.e., which data points belong to the same cluster of similar entities based on their corresponding EPQ–R scores. A radial visualization in which data points were organized into three clusters is given in Figure 4. Each cluster is marked by a different color: cluster 1 by red, cluster 2 by green, and cluster 3 by blue.

BRAIN Journal-Personality Questionnaires as a Basis for Improvement of University Courses in Applied Computer Science and Informatics-Figure 3. Radial visualization of scores across the EPQ–R scales for the male and female participants

The radial visualization in Figure 3 depicts each participating student as a dot whose color indicates the gender of the student, blue for male students (M) and red for female students (F). The position of a dot in the visualization is determined by the scores of the associated student on the four EPQ–R scales. The radial overview may provide a much clearer outline of clustering within the analyzed group. Although there are only five female students, they are concentrated in a relatively narrow area within the radial coordinate system

Uncovering the Citation Landscape: Exploring OpenCitations COCI, OpenCitations Meta, and ERIH-PLUS in Social Sciences and Humanities Journals - DATA PRODUCED

This zipped folders contain all the data produced for the research "Uncovering the Citation Landscape: Exploring OpenCitations COCI, OpenCitations Meta, and ERIH-PLUS in Social Sciences and Humanities Journals": the results datasets (dataset_map_disciplines, dataset_no_SSH, dataset_SSH, erih_meta_with_disciplines and erih_meta_without_disciplines).

dataset_map_disciplines.zip contains CSV files with four columns ("id", "citing", "cited", "disciplines") giving information about publications stored in OpenCitations META (version 3 released on February 2023) and part of SSH journals, according to ERIH PLUS (version downloaded on 2023-04-27), specifying the disciplines associated to them and a boolean value stating if they cite or are cited, according to the OpenCitations COCI dataset (version 19 released on January 2023).

dataset_no_SSH.zip and dataset_SSH.zip contain CSV files with the same structure. Each dataset has four columns: "citing", "is_citing_SSH", "cited", and "is_cited_SSH". ”Citing” and “cited” columns are filled with DOIs of publications stored in OpenCitations META that according to OpenCitations COCI are involved in a citation. The "is_citing_SSH" and "is_cited_SSH" columns contain boolean values: "True" if the corresponding publication is associated with a SSH (Social Sciences and Humanities) discipline, according to ERIH PLUS, and "False" otherwise. The two datasets are built starting from the two different subsets obtained as a result of the union between OpenCitations META and ERIH PLUS: dataset_SSH comes from erih_meta_with_disciplines and dataset_no_SSH from erih_meta_without_disciplines. dataset_no_SSH comes from erih_meta_with_disciplines.zip and erih_meta_without_disciplines.zip, as explained before, contain CSV files originating from ERIH PLUS and META. erih_meta_without_disciplines has just one column “id” and contains the DOIs of all the publications in META that do not have any discipline associated, that is, have not been published on a SSH journal, while erih_meta_with_disciplines derives from all the publications in META that have at least one linked discipline and has two columns: “id” and “erih_disciplines”, containing a string with all the disciplines linked to that publication like "History, Interdisciplinary research in the Humanities, Interdisciplinary research in the Social Sciences, Sociology".

Software: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8326023

Data preprocessed: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7973159

Article: https://zenodo.org/record/8326044

DMP: https://zenodo.org/record/8324973

Protocol: https://doi.org/10.17504/protocols.io.n92ldpeenl5b/v5

Uncovering the Citation Landscape: Exploring OpenCitations COCI, OpenCitations Meta, and ERIH-PLUS in Social Sciences and Humanities Journals - DATA PREPROCESSED

This zipped folders contain all the data preprocessed for the research "Uncovering the Citation Landscape: Exploring OpenCitations COCI, OpenCitations Meta, and ERIH-PLUS in Social Sciences and Humanities Journals": the cleaned datasets (coci_preprocessed, meta_preprocessed, erih_preprocessed and erih_meta).

coci_preprocessed.zip: this archive contains CSVs with two columns “citing” and “cited”, giving information about publications involved in citations according to the OpenCitations COCI dataset (version 19 released on January 2023), and that are entirely contained in OpenCitations META (version 3 released on February 2023). This means that the citations which have either the citing or the cited entity (or both) not contained in META are excluded from coci_preprocessed dataset.

meta_preprocessed.zip: all the original columns of OpenCitations META are maintained in this dataset, so the CSVs have the columns: “id”, “title”, “author”, “issue”, “volume”, “venue”, “page”, “pub_date”, “type”, “publisher” and “editor”. The only difference with the original dataset is that meta_preprocessed in the columns “id” and “venue” has respectively just the DOIs and the ISSNs, without all the other identifiers specified for each entity in META.

erih_preprocessed.zip: it contains a CSV file with two columns "venue_id" and "ERIH_disciplines". "venue_id" is the union of the original columns "Online ISSN" and "Print ISSN" of ERIH_PLUS (version downloaded on 2023-04-27).

erih_meta.zip: it contains CSV files obtained from the union of meta_preprocessed and erih_preprocessed, they have all the columns of meta_preprocessed plus a new column “erih_disciplines” containing all the disciplines linked to a venue (identified by an ISSN).

Software: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8326023

Data produced: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7974816

Article: https://zenodo.org/record/8326044

DMP: https://zenodo.org/record/8324973

Protocol: https://doi.org/10.17504/protocols.io.n92ldpeenl5b/v5

East-African Social Sciences and Humanities Journals active in 2008-2009

Research Data of „East-African Social Sciences and Humanities Publishing: A Handmade Bibliometrics Approach“, Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Science and Technology Indicators, València (Spain), September 14-16, 2016.

Abstract of the paper: For Eastern Africa, very little information about the SSH knowledge production can be found from a European perspective. Adequate indicators like information-rich bibliographic databases that cover East-Africa-based journals and book publishers are lacking. This research in progress explores their indexing situation in detail, their development, which is closely connected to political history, their (non-)usage, and affiliations as well as career-stages of their authors. Furthermore, it also pays attention to East-Africa-based SSH researchers who use other publication venues. Any bibliometric analysis in this field needs to rely on manual data collection, otherwise it would be heavily biased. This study lays out the foundation for citation analyses, qualitative research on the publications' content and the self-description of East-African scholars against the background of an academic environment that is often described as “international”.

Open Access Journal Publishing in the Agricultural Sciences

A survey was conducted on scholarly research communication and the prospects of Open Access (OA) to the scholarly research dissemination in India by Open Knowledge Society (OKS). The India's National Agricultural Research System (NARS) has been choosen as a case study for exploring the possibility of OA in publishing agricultural research. With over 90 Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutes and 42 agricultural universities, established by respective states at State level across the country, the Indian NARS, is one of the largest NARS of the world. The ICAR is the apex organization of Indian NARS coordinating the agricultural research and education of the country. The agriculture research output mainly comes from publicly funded projects, and many of the research centers and universities publish research journals (peer-reviewed) and magazines even in local languages apart from English. Beside, there are many professional societies in agriculture and related sciences publishing peer reviewed journals. However, majority of these journals are traditional print journals and thus are less visible to the outside world. In the country, the researchers cannot have the access to the published literature without the subscription to those journals and many of the libraries do not subscribe all the journals. From India, only four journals in the area of agriculture and animal sciences found in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Hence, it is felt that there is a tremendous potential for the research output to be made available to World with the OKS intervention and with the help of Open Journal System (OJS) software. OKS would like to bring this point forward and hope it can bring some change and create awareness about OA publishing in Agricultural research in India. The survey revealed that there are more than 100 journals which are being published in India on agricultural research by the universities, research centers and professional societies. However these publishers are not aware of the goodness of online open access publications. There is a need for creating awareness among the authors and publishers to embrace the latest Internet technologies for publication of research journals by persuasion campaigns. OKS is keen to promote Open Access Publishing (OAP) using OJS by helping institutions to setup their journals and also build an indexing system for Indian agricultural journals. The result would definitely help Indian researchers and the end user farmer community and also help other developing countries to improve their knowledge.
