Spreadsheet validation for Flat slabs in eccentric punching shear experimental database and analysis

Eccentric punching shear can occur in concrete slab-column connections when the connection is subjected to shear and unbalanced moments. Unbalanced moments occur in all floor slabs at the edge and corner columns. As such, this problem is of practical relevance. However, most punching experiments in the literature deal with concentric punching shear at internal columns. This paper presents a developed database of 128 experiments of flat slabs under eccentric punching shear, including a summary of the testing procedure of each reference and a description of the slab specimens. Additionally, a linear finite element analysis of all the specimens is included to determine the relevant sectional shear forces and moments. Finally, the ultimate shear stresses from the database experiments are compared to the shear capacities determined with ACI 318-19, Eurocode 2, and the Model Code 2010. The comparison shows that the Model Code 2010 is the most precise in the predictions with an average tested-to-predicted ratio of 0.82 and a coefficient of variation of 29.63%. It can be concluded that improvements to the current design methods for eccentric punching shear are necessary.

Roman Army Campaigning spreadsheet

UPDATED August 2025 with improvements and minor bug fixes. Most importantly the spreadsheet is now in LibreOffice Calc .ods format. The spreadsheet had always been developed in LibreOffice and then in the past migrated to .xlsx format. Unfortunately some of the new graphical elements (depictions of the rampart-ditch and the camp in plan view) and some complex operations no longer work seemlessly in MS Excel formats, thence the LibreOffice .ods format.

UPDATED January 2024 with dynamic charts of marching camp defence profiles and camp plans. These simple 2D representations are updated as the user changes values in the spreadsheet giving a visual confirmation of appropriateness.

Spreadsheet calculations for campaigning Roman armies of the early Imperial period. The spreadsheet is also available at www.bandaarcgeophysics.co.uk/arch_intro.html . It allows the definition of army sizes, march rates and distances, and the building of camp defences (ditch, rampart and palisade) before calculating over 70 parameters and metrics associated with a Roman marching camps, e.g internal roads. Calculated camps sizes are cross-matched to extant camps allowing comparisons.

Observations from the use of the spreadsheet, together with instructions on how to use, are available in an accompanying essay, "Early Imperial Roman army campaigning: observations on marching metrics, energy expenditure and the building of marching camps", available at www.bandaarcgeophysics.co.uk/arch_intro.html or from Zenodo.org ( https://zenodo.org/record/838275#.ZGSOIHbMIuU ) or Academia.edu (search 'steve kaye').

Spreadsheets for determining the immunoreactivity of radioimmunoconjugates

In the published manuscript for which this data set was created, we provide detailed protocols for the measurement of the immunoreactivity of radiolabeled antibodies. To provide some context, full-length antibodies and smaller antibody fragments have been viewed as promising vectors for the delivery of radionuclides to tumor tissues for decades. The creation of radioimmunoconjugates is predicated on the direct attachment of a radionuclide (i.e. a radiohalogen) or the initial bioconjugation of a chelator that can then be used to coordinate a radiometal. These two approaches have traditionally relied upon random reactions with residues within the immunoglobulin; however, stochastic modification strategies inevitably risk the integrity of the biomolecule itself and, as a result, can provide radioimmunoconjugates with subpar in vivo behavior. The initial evaluation of any novel radiolabeled antibody or antibody fragment should therefore involve the determination of the immunoconjugate's ability to bind its cognate antigen. These spreadsheets are companions to a manuscript in which we provide detailed protocols for three assays that can be used to determine the immunoreactivity of a radioimmunoconjugate: (1) a cell-based linear extrapolation assay; (2) a cell-based antigen saturation assay; and (3) a resin- or bead-based assay.

These are spreadsheets that accompany our guide to measuring the immunoreactivity of radioimmunoconjugates.

Corresponding spreadsheet to the Paper 'Comparative analysis of pre-Covid19 child immunization rates across 30 European countries and identification of underlying positive societal and system influences'

This study provides a macro-level societal and health system focused analysis of child vaccination rates in 30 European countries, exploring the effect of context on coverage. The importance of demography and health system attributes on health care delivery are recognized in other fields, but generally overlooked in vaccination. The analysis is based on correlating systematic data built up by the Models of Child Health Appraised (MOCHA) Project with data from international sources, so as to exploit a one-off opportunity to set the analysis within an overall integrated study of primary care services for children, and the learning opportunities of the ‘natural European laboratory’. The descriptive analysis shows an overall persistent variation of coverage across vaccines with no specific vaccination having a low rate in all the EU and EEA countries. However, contrasting with this, variation between total uptake per vaccine across Europe suggests that the challenge of low rates is related to country contexts of either policy, delivery, or public perceptions. Econometric analysis aiming to explore whether some population, policy and/or health system characteristics may influence vaccination uptake provides important results - GDP per capita and the level of the population’s higher education engagement are positively linked with higher vaccination coverage, whereas mandatory vaccination policy is related to lower uptake rates. The health system characteristics that have a significant positive effect are a cohesive management structure; a high nurse/doctor ratio; and use of practical care delivery reinforcements such as the home-based record and the presence of child components of e‑health strategies.
