Data from: Comparative assessment of a novel fan box trap for collecting Anopheles farauti and culicine mosquitoes alive in tropical north Queensland, Australia

<p>During preliminary mosquito surveys at Cowley Beach Training Area in north Queensland, Australia, it was found that the utility of the standard encephalitis virus surveillance (EVS) trap for collecting the malaria vector <em>Anopheles farauti</em> (Laveran) adults was compromised by the harsh tropical conditions. With the aim of increasing the survival rate of mosquitoes, we designed a downdraft fan box trap (FBT) that incorporated a screened fan at the bottom of the trap, so mosquitoes did not have to pass through a fan. The FBT was tested against the EVS and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) light traps, where mosquitoes do pass through a fan, and a nonpowered passive box trap (PBT). We conducted four trials to compare the quantity and survival of <em>An. farauti</em> and culicine mosquitoes were collected in these traps. Although not significant, the FBT collected more <em>An</em>. <em>farauti</em> than the EVS trap and PBT and significantly less <em>An. farauti</em> than the CDC light trap. However, the FBT improved on the CDC light trap in terms of the survival of <em>An</em>. <em>farauti</em> adults collected, with a significantly higher percentage alive in the FBT (74.6%) than in the CDC light trap (27.5%). Thus, although the FBT did not collect as many anophelines as the CDC, it proved to be superior to current trap systems for collecting large numbers of live and relatively undamaged mosquitoes. Therefore, it is recommended that FBTs be used for collecting <em>An. farauti</em> adults in northern Australia, especially when high survival and sample quality are important.</p>

The purpose of this data collection was to determine whether the expression of plant functional traits differed between tree seedlings recruited into logged and unlogged forests. Foot kinematics and kinetics data for different static foot posture collected using a multi-segment foot model

<p>Dataset presented in the paper <em>"Foot kinematics and kinetics data for different static foot posture collected using a multi-segment foot model".</em></p> <p>This dataset contains human foot joints kinematics and kinetics data collected during walking, classified depending on their static foot posture. The kinematics data were recorded using a three-dimensional motion analysis system, and kinetics data were recorded through a pressure platform. The data was collected considering a multi-segment foot model that considers the ankle, midtarsal and first metatarsophalangeal joint. A total of 70 healthy subjects with different static posture (highly pronated, highly supinated and normal, as classified by the foot posture index) participated in the experiments. This dataset contains a total of 350 continuous recordings of anatomical angles and joint moments of the ankle, midtarsal, and first metatarsophalangeal joints of the right foot during walking, as well as the right foot contact pressures recorded. The recordings were collected at 100 Hz, and the resulting data are provided filtered and resampled to 100 frames evenly distributed along the stance phase. Participants&rsquo; descriptive data are also provided: age, weight, height, and foot anthropometric data and foot posture index for both feet. The data are presented as a spreadsheet file (.xlsx) and a Matlab structure file (.mat), with contact pressures provided only in the .mat file. Further details and data validation are provided in the main paper.</p>

<p><strong>Dataset Composition and Patient Information</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span>The dataset comprises MRI scans from 84 patients diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), with each patient's data thoroughly anonymized to protect privacy. </span>&nbsp;The dataset includes a mixture of patients, some of whom have only a single MRI scan available, while others have longitudinal data with multiple scans taken at various timepoints. The intervals between these timepoints vary and, in certain cases, include instances where patients have undergone therapeutic interventions between scans. This allows for the examination of disease progression and treatment effects over time.</p> <p>Individual patient data have been collected by Garibaldi Hospital (Catania) upon authorization of ethic committee COMITATO ETICO CATANIA 2 (prot. 810/C.E. del 20/12/2020, favorable opinion) and are irreversibly anonymised.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>MRI Sequences and Imaging Details</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Each MRI scan in the dataset consists of three primary sequences: Fluid Attenuated Inversion Recovery (FLAIR), T1-weighted, and T2-weighted imaging.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&bull;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; T1-weighted sequence: In this imaging modality, the white matter exhibits a hyperintense (lighter) signal compared to gray matter, which appears with a relatively lower intensity. On T1-weighted images, these lesions typically appear as hypointense areas, reflecting their lower signal intensity relative to normal white matter. Conversely, MS lesions are hyperintense on T2-weighted, proton density (PD)-weighted, and FLAIR sequences, indicating a higher signal intensity compared to surrounding brain tissues.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>FLAIR images, in particular, provide superior lesion detection capabilities. The suppression of the CSF signal in FLAIR images enhances the contrast between lesions and surrounding tissues, making the lesions appear prominently hyperintense. This heightened contrast facilitates the precise delineation of MS lesions, which are often well-differentiated from adjacent brain structures in these images. The detailed imaging characteristics captured across these sequences are crucial for assessing the extent of MS-related brain damage, monitoring disease progression, and evaluating therapeutic outcomes.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

IT-RAD weather radar data collected on 5 September 2015 during an exceptionally intense hailstorm in the Gulf of Naples

<p>On 5 September 2015 a violent hailstorm hit the Gulf and the city of Naples in Italy. The storm originated over the Tyrrhenian Sea dropping 7&ndash;10 cm diameter hailstones along its path. The event was observed by a dual-polarization Doppler C-band, namely the Monte il Monte radar operated by the Italian Department of Civil Protection, being part of the Italian radar network (IT-RAD).&nbsp;</p> <p>The dataset is composed by high-resolution polar volumes of the following radar parameters: Uncorrected reflectivity Z (UZ), Corrected reflectivity Z (CZ), differential reflectivity (ZDR), uncorrected differential phase shift (PHIDP), co-polar correlation coefficient (RHOHV), Doppler Velocity (V), Doppler Width (W). The scan strategy is based on inverse elevation mode (from the highest to the lowest elevation angle) with variable PRF. The different phases of the event were well captured by the weather radar of &ldquo;Monte il Monte&rdquo; (lat = 41.9394 &deg;, lon = 14.6208 &deg;, altitude = 710 m) which, at the time of the event, was affected by a differential bias (on ZDR) of about 0.8 dB to be algebraically subtracted from the measured quantities. The user should be informed about some spot regions of missing data that might be present in the radar variables, especially on the V and differential phase. This is caused by the thresholding approach applied at RSP level on the signal quality index (SQI) to compensate for W-LAN interferences.</p> <p>The dataset, consisting of 44 raw radar data volumes with 5 minutes sampling rate, is provided in a proprietary format (&ldquo;Datamet&rdquo;) that is manageable by using the python code named read_datamet.py that is available at&nbsp;<a href="https://zenodo.org/record/4897245">https://zenodo.org/record/4897245</a>.</p>
