<p>Social media bots pose as humans to influence users with commercial, political or ideological purposes. For example, bots could artificially inflate the popularity of a product by promoting it and/or writing positive ratings, as well as undermine the reputation of competitive products through negative valuations. The threat is even greater when the purpose is political or ideological (see Brexit referendum or US Presidential elections). Fearing the effect of this influence, the German political parties have rejected the use of bots in their electoral campaign for the general elections. Furthermore, bots are commonly related to fake news spreading. Therefore, to approach the identification of bots from an author profiling perspective is of high importance from the point of view of marketing, forensics and security.</p> <p>After having addressed several aspects of <strong>author profiling</strong> in social media from 2013 to 2018 (age and gender, also together with personality, gender and language variety, and gender from a multimodality perspective), this year we aim at investigating whether the author of a Twitter feed is a <strong>bot</strong> or a <strong>human</strong>. Furthermore, in case of human, to profile the <strong>gender</strong> of the author.</p> <p>The uncompressed dataset consists in a folder per language (en, es). Each folder contains:</p> <ul> <li>A XML file per author (Twitter user) with 100 tweets. The name of the XML file correspond to the unique author id.</li> <li>A truth.txt file with the list of authors and the ground truth.</li> </ul>

<p>This dataset contains data used in the analyses performed in the article entitled "Gender-biased nectar targets different behavioural traits of flower visitors". The Excel file contains five sheets.</p> <p>1_‘Behavioural observations’ contains taxa, sex, number of visited flowers, duration of visits and reward sought of each insect visiting <em>Echium vulgare </em>flowers during behavioural observations.</p> <p>2_‘Insect checklist’ contains the list of all taxa recorded visiting the flowers.</p> <p>3_‘Patches’ contains the description of the fixed plant patches where flower visitor observations were performed.</p> <p>4_‘Nectar quality’ contains volume and concentration of sugars and amino acids measured in several nectar sample of <em>Echium vulgare</em>, belonging to three different flower stages.</p> <p>5_‘Nectar aminoacid diversity’ contains the concentration of specific amino acids found in nectar samples of two flower stages.</p>

Anthropologists have mainly studied the influence of gender difference on language through social behavior at a certain level. However, dialectologists have studied the difference of speech not only in terms of gender, but also in the group of speakers of urban and rural areas. </span></p>
The effect of gender over performance in higher education
<p>Previous research offers insight on different factors that explain academic performance during the first year of university, however analyzing each one independently. This study aims to tap on this research gap analysing the impact of gender, course content nature, and semester timing on academic performance of first-year students enrolled in various majors within the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Universidad Europea de Canarias (UEC). A conditional quantile regression analysis was conducted in order to assess the degree of association among the variables under investigation. The data were collected across two semesters (autumn and winter-spring) within the academic year 2022-2023, focusing on first-year students.</p> <p>The study aimed to identify patterns and trends that can guide the development of academic policies, and teaching practices aimed at promoting instructional effectiveness and supporting student success during the critical transition period of their first year.</p> <p>Results confirms that females generally outperform males across various modules and the magnitude of this effect differs based on the course content; additionally, the observed seasonal effects on academic performance highlight the importance of strategic planning and support throughout the academic year.</p> <p>These findings provide insightful information for assessing educational efficacy and teaching methods.</p>

Social participation of young people in university settings: gender gap in participatory profiles and explanatory processes.
<p>The present research aimed to analyze, on the one hand, the participatory profile of women and men considering the influence of higher education and, on the other hand, to determine to what extent gender can moderate the impact of intrapersonal variables that previous research has shown to be related to social participation. To this end, two studies are presented: Study 1 addresses the analysis of 3856 university students who had completed at least their first academic year (DATABASE.UNIVERSITY). Study 2 involved 1061 young people who have just started their university studies (DATABASE.STARTERS). In both cases an online questionnaire was used to assess different forms of social participation and the intrapersonal variables of internal efficacy, moral obligation, self-concept and social norms. </p>
