Dataset related to article "Multidisciplinary management of adolescents and young adults (AYA) sarcoma: A successful effort of an adult high-volume cancer center"

<p>This record contains raw data related to article "Multidisciplinary management of adolescents and young adults (AYA) sarcoma: A successful effort of an adult high-volume cancer center"</p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p><strong>Introduction:</strong> The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the clinicopathological characteristics of AYA sarcomas and their clinical outcomes at a high-volume single center.</p><p><strong>Methods</strong>: Demographic, clinicopathological data on the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of all sarcoma patients aged 16-39 years (ys) observed at our Institute between January 2010 and December 2021 were retrospectively collected, including diagnostic (TTD) and treatment delay(TTT), clinical outcomes (OS and PFS), and late-treatment effects.</p><p><strong>Results:</strong> We identified 228 AYA patients, median age 30 years, 29% ≤ 25 years, 57% males, 88% soft tissue sarcomas (STS), and 12% bone sarcomas (BS). Among STSs, 13% were small round cell tumors (SRCT), 52% intermediate-high-grade, 24% low-grade STSs. Among BS, 32% were high-grade. Median TTD and TTT were 120 (0-8255) and 7 days (0-83), respectively. Surgery was performed in 83%, radiotherapy in 29%, and systemic therapy in 27%. Median follow-up was 72.9 months(1.6-145), 5-year and 10-year OS were 78.5% and 62%, respectively. Kaplan-Meyer analysis showed a significantly better 5-year OS and PFS for patients with &gt;92 days of TTD (OS 85.7% vs. 66.7%, p = 0.001, PFS 50.2% vs. 24.9%, p = 0.009). According to age (≤25 years vs. &gt; 25 years), 5-year OS was 69.8% versus 82.2%, respectively (p = 0.047).</p><p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> Our analysis confirmed previous data on sarcoma AYA patients followed in a referral center. Unexpectedly, diagnostic delay was not associated with poor OS and PFS. Patients &lt;25 years showed a poorer prognosis due to the higher incidence of SRCT.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

Despite intense collecting efforts in Suriname in the last 40 years, there was no record of Pygoderma; its northern limit is E Brazil, and it is only known from Cerrado and Mata Atlantica ecoregions. Markov Modeling of Component Fault Growth Over A Derived Domain of Feasible Output Control Effort Modifications

This paper introduces a novel Markov process formulation of stochastic fault growth modeling, in order to facilitate the development and analysis of prognostics-based control adap- tation. A metric representing the relative deviation between the nominal output of a system and the net output that is ac- tually enacted by an implemented prognostics-based control routine, will be used to define the action space of the formu- lated Markov process. The state space of the Markov pro- cess will be defined in terms of an abstracted metric repre- senting the relative health remaining in each of the system’s components. The proposed formulation of component fault dynamics will conveniently relate feasible system output per- formance modifications to predictions of future component health deterioration.

Dataset related to the publication "Brisk walking can be a maximal effort in heart failure patients: a comparison of cardiopulmonary exercise and 6 min walking test cardiorespiratory data"

<p><strong>Aims:&nbsp;</strong>Cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) and 6 min walking test (6MWT) are frequently used in heart failure (HF). CPET is a maximal exercise, whereas 6MWT is a self-selected constant load test usually considered a submaximal, and therefore safer, exercise, but this has not been tested previously. The aim of this study was to compare the cardiorespiratory parameters collected during CPET and 6MWT in a large group of healthy subjects and patients with HF of different severity.</p> <p><strong>Methods and results:&nbsp;</strong>Subjects performed a standard maximal CPET and a 6MWT wearing a portable device allowing breath-by-breath measurement of cardiorespiratory parameters. HF patients were grouped according to their CPET peak oxygen uptake (peakV̇O2&nbsp;). One hundred and fifty-five subjects were enrolled, of whom 40 were healthy (59 &plusmn; 8 years; male 67%) and 115 were HF patients (69 &plusmn; 10 years; male 80%; left ventricular ejection fraction 34.6 &plusmn; 12.0%). CPET peakV̇O2&nbsp;was 13.5 &plusmn; 3.5 mL/kg/min in HF patients and 28.1 &plusmn; 7.4 mL/kg/min in healthy subjects (P &lt; 0.001). 6MWT-V̇O2&nbsp;was 98 &plusmn; 20% of the CPET peakV̇O2&nbsp;values in HF patients, while 72 &plusmn; 20% in healthy subjects (P &lt; 0.001). 6MWT-V̇O2&nbsp;was &gt;110% of CPET peakV̇O2&nbsp;in 42% of more severe HF patients (peakV̇O2&nbsp;&lt; 12 mL/kg/min). Similar results have been found for ventilation and heart rate. Of note, the slope of the relationship between V̇O2&nbsp;at 6MWT, reported as a percentage of CPET peakV̇O2&nbsp;vs. 6MWT V̇O2&nbsp;reported as the absolute value, progressively increased as exercise limitation did.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions:&nbsp;</strong>In conclusion, the last minute of 6MWT must be perceived as a maximal or even supramaximal exercise activity in patients with more severe HF. Our findings should influence the safety procedures needed for the 6MWT in HF.</p>

Aerial drones reveal the dynamic structuring of sea turtle breeding aggregations and minimum survey effort required to capture climatic and sex-specific effects

<p class="MsoNormal">Quantifying how animals use key habitats and resources for their survival allows managers to optimise conservation planning; however, obtaining representative sample sizes of wildlife distributions in both time and space is challenging, particularly in the marine environment. Here, we used unoccupied aircraft systems (UASs) to evaluate temporal and spatial variation in the distribution of loggerhead sea turtles (<em>Caretta caretta</em>) at two high-density breeding aggregations in the Mediterranean, and the effect of varying sample size and survey frequency. In May–June of 2017 to 2019, we conducted 69 surveys, assimilating 10,075 inwater turtle records at the two sites. Optimal survey frequency to capture the dynamics of aggregations over the breeding period was &lt;2-week intervals and &gt;500 turtles (from the combined surveys). This minimum threshold was attributed to the core-area use of female turtles shifting across surveys in relation to wind direction to access warmer nearshore waters and male presence. Males were more widely distributed within aggregations than females, particularly in May when mating encounters were high. Most males were recorded swimming and oriented parallel to shore, likely to enhance encounter rates with females. In contrast, most females were generally stationary (resting on the seabed or basking), likely to conserve energy for reproduction, with orientation appearing to shift in relation to male numbers at the breeding area. Thus, by identifying the main factors regulating the movement and distribution of animals, appropriate survey intervals can be selected for appropriate home range analyses. Our study demonstrates the versatility of UAS to capture the fine-scale dynamics of wildlife aggregations and associated factors, which is important for implementing effective conservation.</p>
