Fig. 1 in Solving the 250-year-old mystery of the origin and global spread of the German cockroach, Blattella germanica

Fig. 1. Population genetic structure and global spread routes of the German cockroach, Blattella germanica. (A) Median joining haplotype network based on the COI gene (1,536 bp). (B) Principal component analysis based on 158,216 genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms. (C) Bar plot (Top), split into regionspecific bar plots mapped to sampling sites, derived from maximum likelihood estimation of ancestry (ADMIXTURE) at the optimal number of ancestral clusters (K = 6). The diagram on top of the bar plot indicates nucleotide diversity (π) per locus at each sampling site. The inferred timing and routes of global spread are mapped with black arrows. (D) Divergence of key populations presented in the form of an allele-frequency-based unrooted tree with residuals of drift parameters mapped as migration edges. (E) A zoomed-in view of (C) focused on Asia. The natural range of the ancestor, B. asahinai, is shown in green.

Figure 1 in The University of Guam Herbarium: The First 50 Years

Figure 1. Volcanically active islands of the Mariana Arc. A. Remains of a Japanese Zero at the former airfield on Pagan in the northern Mariana Islands. Grazing by feral cattle prevents trees from invading the field. Casuarina equisetifolia dominates the adjacent forest, while the active volcano, Mt. Pagan, dominates the skyline. Despite considerable recent volcanic activity, Pagan possesses the most diverse flora of the islands in the uninhabited northern archipelago. B. By contrast, the nearby island of Anatahan is blanketed in a thick layer of volcanic ash that has smothered its once lush vegetation. Extensive collections of plants from these and the other Mariana Islands are housed in the Guam Herbarium. Credits: Photo A, A.M. Kerr; Photo B, T. Schils.

Fig. 1 in Response of Sphagnum Testate Amoebae to Drainage, Subsequent Re-wetting and Associated Changes in the Moss Carpet - Results from a Three Year Mesocosm Experiment

Fig. 1. Left: schematic cross-section through a mesocosm showing the peat and Sphagnum layer. Right: expected evolution of community structure or traits over the stress and recovery phases. At the onset of the experiment (T0) the community included the whole range of species living in pool, lawn and hummock, taken in a natural Sphagnum peatland. D1 is the point of maximum disturbance effect and R1 and R2 are sampling points during the recovery phase. Dotted lines represented the possible evolution of both species community structure and community weighted mean of functional traits in response to disturbance. Full recovery depended on the survival potential of species. The new equilibrium represents the situation when the local conditions or present species pool do not allow a fully recovery of original state. In our case this is due to the fact that some species are likely to be lost during the disturbance phase.
