The stations were located at Guadingjiao (M1), inside the bar (M2), and outside the bar (M3), and sampling was simultaneously conducted at neap tide (NT) from July 31 to August 1 and spring tide (ST) from August 8 to August 9 in 2017. All observation data has been compiled to include data from the surface to the bottom six layers within 26 hours. Circulation in the Guafo Mouth: the gateway to northern Patagonia
<p>These data include the current velocities collected with an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) in the Guafo Mouth from April 2021 to November 2023. </p><p>The file '1_ADCP_Corcovado_FR_06.10.2021.mat' is the raw ADCP data collected from April to October 2021. </p><p>The file 'Oct_2021_abr_2022.mat' is the raw ADCP data collected from October 2021 to April 2022. </p><p>The file 'ADCP_NOV2023.mat' is the raw ADCP data collected from April 2023 to November 2023. </p><p>The file 'CTDO_TimeSerie_Guafo_Jan2016_Oct2022_daily.xls' contains the time series of oxygen, salinity and temperature collected at the ADCP mooring from 2016 to 2022. The data from April 2021 to April 2022 were used in our study. </p><p>The file 'CIMAR_Winter_AlongChannel.txt' is the salinity, temperature, DO, Nitrate and Phosphate data collected along the Guafo Mouth during the fall to winter seasons. </p><p>The file 'CIMAR_Summer_AlongChannel.txt' is the salinity, temperature, DO, Nitrate and Phosphate data collected along the Guafo Mouth during the spring to summer seasons. </p><p>The file 'Guafo_CrossChannel.txt' is the salinity, temperature and DO data collected at the six stations across the Guafo Mouth.</p>
Lion's Mouth, EPCOT
On a recent birthday trip to Disney's EPCOT center I took a few pics of a faux Lion's Mouth in the Italy pavillion. Much of the Italy pavillion is modeled on St. Mark's square in Venice, replete with the Doge's palace and the two famous Venetian pillars. On the back side of the "palace," mostly hidden away, I found this Lion's Mouth, a tool used by the Venetian Republic for secret accusations and condemnations. Diverse parentage relationships in paternal mouth-brooders
<p>While mouthbrooding is not an uncommon parental care strategy in fishes, paternal mouthbrooding only occurs in eight fish families and little studied. The high cost of paternal mouthbrooding to the male implies a low risk of investment in another male's offspring but genetic parentage patterns are poorly known for paternal mouthbrooders. Here we used single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genetic data to investigate parentage relationships of broods of two mouthbrooders of northern Australian rivers, mouth almighty <em>Glossamia aprion</em> and blue catfish <em>Neoarius graeffei</em>. For <em>N. graeffei</em>, we found that the parentage pattern was largely monogamous with the brooder male as the sire. For <em>G. aprion</em>, the parentage pattern was more heterogeneous including observations of monogamous broods with the brooder male as the sire (73%), polygyny (13%), cuckoldry (6%) and a brood genetically unrelated to the brooder male (6%). Findings demonstrate the potential for complex interrelationships of male care, paternity confidence, and mating behaviour in mouthbrooding fishes.</p>
