EOOffshore: New European Wind Atlas (NEWA) Data for the Irish Continental Shelf Region

<p><a href="https://eooffshore.github.io/">EOOffshore</a> is a <a href="https://www.seai.ie/">Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)</a> funded <a href="https://www.seai.ie/data-and-insights/seai-research/research-projects/details/building-upon-copernicus-earth-observation-services-to-augment-wind-measurement-coverage-of-the-oredp-offshore-renewable-energy-assessment-areas">project</a>, which commenced in June 2020 in the <a href="https://www.ucd.ie/physics/">School of Physics</a> in <a href="https://www.ucd.ie/">University College Dublin (UCD)</a>. It presents a case study that demonstrates the utility of the <a href="https://pangeo.io/">Pangeo</a> software ecosystem in the development of offshore wind speed and power density estimates, increasing wind measurement coverage of offshore renewable energy assessment areas in the <a href="https://www.marine.ie/Home/site-area/irelands-marine-resource/real-map-ireland">Irish Continental Shelf (ICS)</a> region. It has involved the creation of a new <a href="https://eooffshore.github.io/datasets.html">wind data catalog</a> for this region, consisting of a collection of analysis-ready, cloud-optimized (ARCO) datasets featuring up to 21 years of available in situ, reanalysis, and satellite observation wind data products.</p> <p>The <a href="https://www.neweuropeanwindatlas.eu/">New European Wind Atlas (NEWA)</a> provides wind statistics covering onshore Europe, 100km offshore over European seas, and the complete North and Baltic Seas, based on <a href="https://map.neweuropeanwindatlas.eu/about">30 years of mesoscale simulations</a>. These catalog data sets contain 2009-2018 products for the ICS region, provided by the <a href="https://map.neweuropeanwindatlas.eu/">NEWA Map Layers and Datasets</a> website, featuring variables at multiple heights (metres above surface level). Data for `Identifying New Pulsating Variables and Eclipsing Binaries Using TESS Data'

<p>This study presents a series of surveys using TESS data to identify new &delta; Scuti and &gamma; Doradus stars, as well as eclipsing binaries with pulsating components. Preliminary catalogs of newly discovered variables are being made publicly available to encourage community use as the project progresses. Please visit this website for updates.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;1. New &delta; Scuti stars,&nbsp; &gamma; Doradus stars, and eclipsing binaries from a subset of 709,000 selected AF-type stars observed by TESS. Version 4.5 is an update to Version 4.0 (the first release for Part IV), while Part III was provided in Version 3.0.</p> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The attached CSV file <strong>NewVar_AF50w_R2.csv,</strong> contains the catalog of newly identified variables from Phases I and II of the survey (i.e.&nbsp; R2 includes R1 from Version 3.0). The accompanying file <strong>ms2RNAAS_2025AF50w_IV.pdf</strong> is the initial draft describing the Phase-II identifications. New Data Types in Data Management and Archiving [Webinar recording]

<p>New Data Types in Data Management and Archiving workshop focused on the management, archiving and access to new types of data (NDTs), i.e. administrative, transactional and social media data. The program consisted of four presentations tackling various issues related to handling the NDTs in data repositories and sharing these data in the community of social researchers. Martin V&aacute;vra (CSDA) was speaking about current capacities among CESSDA SPs for handling NDTs, Brian Kleiner (FORS) was talking about the coordinated approach to handling NDTs CESSDA SPs. Yevhen Voronin (GESIS) gave a presentation about social media data sharing in social research and Pascal Jurgens (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz) was speaking about Social Science in the Embattled Digital Age: Adversarial Creation, Use and Sharing of New Data Types. The speakers&rsquo; presentations were followed by the panel discussion, where audience members were encouraged to participate and brought in their own experiences of archivists, data managers and researchers. ViF-GTAD: A new Automotive Data Set with Ground Truth for ADAS/AD Development, Testing and Validation

<p>A new dataset for automated driving, which is the subject matter of this paper, identifies and addresses a gap in existing similar perception data sets. While the most state-of-the-art perception data sets primarily focus on provision of various on-board sensor measurements along with the semantic information under various driving conditions, the provided information is often insufficient since the object list and position data provided include unknown and time-varying errors. The current paper and the associated data-set describes the first publicly available perception measurement data that include not only the on-board sensor information from camera, Lidar and radar with semantically classified objects, but also the high precision ground-truth position measurements enabled by the accurate RTK assisted GPS localization systems available on both the ego vehicle and the dynamic target objects. This paper provides insight on the capturing of the data, explicitly explaining the meta data structure and the content, as well as the potential application examples where it has been, and can potentially be, applied and implemented in relation to automated driving and environmental perception systems development, testing and validation.</p>

HyUSPRe Report & Data on 'New experimental data on reactions between H2 and well cement and effects on fluid flow and mechanical properties of well cement

<p>In this study, new experimental data is presented of the effects of H<sub>2</sub> exposure and cyclic loading on mechanical properties of oil well (class G) cement, relevant for underground hydrogen storage operations. Changes in mechanical properties (Young&rsquo;s modulus, Poisson&rsquo;s ratio and ultimate strength) have been analyzed using unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests and confined cyclic loading tests on class G cement samples that were unreacted (cured for 3 days at 80&deg;C) and exposed to lime-saturated brine and N<sub>2</sub> or H<sub>2</sub> for 1 and 2 months. Changes in cement mineralogy were analyzed by XRD analysis of the unreacted and exposed samples. The mechanical properties of elastic modulus and Poisson&rsquo;s ratio are within the expected range of an oil well cement. Differences in Young&rsquo;s modulus, Poisson&rsquo;s ratio and ultimate strength are limited between unreacted, N<sub>2</sub>-exposed and H<sub>2</sub>-exposed samples, when comparing UCS tests or confined cyclic loading tests. Repeated UCS tests seem to indicate that the variation in Young&rsquo;s modulus and ultimate strength increases after N<sub>2</sub> and H<sub>2</sub> exposure, but this observation needs to be confirmed in additional tests. During cyclic axial loading of confined cement samples, irreversible (plastic) deformation (compaction) occurs that affect static Young&rsquo;s modulus. Also, effects of exceeding yield and failure strength on Young&rsquo;s modulus are observed. Dynamic Young&rsquo;s moduli and Poisson&rsquo;s ratios derived from acoustic velocity measurements during confined cyclic tests show limited variation, in particular if static and dynamic Young&rsquo;s modulus are compared. The mineralogical changes as identified using XRD analysis suggest minor changes between unexposed and H<sub>2</sub>- and N<sub>2</sub>-exposed samples, although XRD patterns indicate some minerals that could not be identified. The main conclusion is that effects of H<sub>2</sub> exposure and cyclic loading on mechanical properties and mineralogical changes of class G cement is limited compared to unreacted or N<sub>2</sub> exposed samples for the investigated conditions. There is no indication that changes in mechanical properties of cement are such that cement integrity of wells used for underground hydrogen storage will be significantly affected. It should be emphasized that this conclusion is based on experiments on one type of cement (class G) and a limited set of conditions. In particular, additional tests to assess the reproducibility of current results and tests on samples that were exposed longer to H<sub>2</sub> and N<sub>2</sub> are of interest. Detailed effects of changing properties for the durability and integrity of wells can be derived by performing a parameter sensitivity analysis with well integrity modelling for the range in mechanical properties measured in this study.</p>

Morphological cladogenesis and terminal dwarfing in extinct Late Miocene through Pliocene menardiform globorotalids: New complementary data to «Evolutionary prospection in the Neogene planktic foraminifer Globorotalia menardii and related forms from ODP Hole 925B (Céara Rise, western tropical Atlantic): evidence for gradual evolution superimposed by long distance dispersal ?, Swiss J. Palaeontology, 135:205-248»

<p>A complementary morphometric data set is provided to the study of Knappertsbusch (2016) about the shell evolution of menardiform globorotalids (Neogene planktic foraminifera) at ODP Hole 925B from C&eacute;ara Rise in the the western tropical Atlantic. The new measurements confirm splitting of extinct <em>Globorotalia multicamerata</em> from the <em>G. menardii</em> stock via the intermediate form <em>G. limbata</em> between about 6 Ma to 5 Ma ago. After splitting both <em>G. limbata</em> and <em>G. multicamerata</em> show gradual divergence from <em>G. menardii</em> in several shell parameters illustrating morphological cladogenesis. Between 2.88 Ma and 2.59 Ma the same parameters show a concerted trend towards reduced values indicating pre-extinction dwarfing. A comparison with published literature data of Delta<sup>18</sup>O trends between species, that populated the mixed layer (<em>Globigerinoides sacculifer</em>) and the thermocline layer (<em>Neogloboquadrina dutertrei</em>) at this location during those times suggests, that both divergence and subsequent dwarfing trends were probably the results of changes in upper watermass stratification.</p> <p>The complementary data set is provided in six zipped archives APPENDIX A, B, C, D, E and F (zipped with free software 7-Zip 22.00 (x64), 2022-06-15 from 1999-2022 Igor Pawlow), together with a description of the data in file Report_925B_suppl_1.pdf.</p>

Wordlist files of lexical data from Papua New Guinea and western Solomons Oceanic languages collated for Ross's 1986 PhD thesis and 1988 publication thereof

<p>It occurs to me that the files containing&nbsp;Western Oceanic lexical data&nbsp;that&nbsp;I collected in the late 70s/early 80s for my PhD (Ross 1988) might be useful to someone. They are also used in the volumes of <em>The lexicon of Proto&nbsp;Oceanic </em>(Ross, Pawley &amp; Osmond 1998, 2003, 2011, 2016, 2023). In any case, it is right that they be made publicly available, something that wasn&#39;t so easy back then. Most of the material is from wordlists that I collected during fieldwork in Papua New Guinea from around 1978 to 1982. The file cor06 is omitted because it contains SE Solomonic data (outside Western Oceanic) drawn from Tryon &amp; Hackman 1983.</p> <p>I keyed the data into text files in a format such that each line was the entry for a single word, and each field within an entry was marked by a backslash code (I adapted this format from SIL&#39;s conventions at the time), then arranged them in cognate sets, each set separated from the next by an empty line. This work was done between 1983 and 1985, when text files were the best way to store data. They were entered on a terminal connected to a mainframe computer at the ANU. I have converted the ASCII symbols used in the original files into UTF-8 here in the interests of readability. The conversion was largely automatic, and I have not done a full check of each file, so there may be glitches.</p> <p>Each file contains languages from a region, as listed below (and the regions sometimes cut across subgroups determined by the comparative method). Three-letter abbreviations are used for language names, and two key files are also provided, one (COR-abbrevs) ordered by regions (determined by the numerals that start each line), the other by alphabetical order of&nbsp;language name (COR-abbrevs-alph). Some three-letter codes are followed by a hyphen and an extra letter. These are dialects. For example, MUM stands for Mumeng&nbsp;and MUM-P for the Patep dialect of Mumeng.</p> <p>Data files are labelled with COR (for &#39;correspondence sets&#39;) plus a numeral. The numerals are: 1-3 New Ireland; 4 Willaumez Peninsula (New Britain) area; 5 NW Solomonic; 7+8 Papuan Tip; 9 Vitiaz Strait area and NG north coast; 10 Huon Gulf and Markham Valley; 11 South and west New Britain. 7+8 are partial only. When I keyed the files,&nbsp;I had to rely on a mainframe&#39;s nightly back-up onto tape spools. One night the system failed, and so did the restore, and I lost some data.</p> <p>The backslash codes in the data files are: \l language; \p protolanguage; \w word; \g gloss; \n note; \s source. The formatting of these files is a little odd, since they served as input to routines I wrote to pull out sound correspondences. Anything after &#39;%&#39; is the elicited form: what immediately precedes &#39;%&#39; has had something &#39;undone&#39;, e.g. metathesis.</p> <p>The orthography of the files is phonemic and largely obvious. The conventions are set out in the introductions to the volumes of&nbsp;<em>The lexicon of Proto&nbsp;Oceanic.</em></p> <p>Finally, the files also contain reconstructions at various interstages at the top of a cognate set. These were inserted for heuristic reasons during my research. Many of them did not survive into my PhD thesis, and they should preferably be ignored. The reader who is interested in current Oceanic reconstructions should turn to the volumes of <em>The lexicon of Proto&nbsp;Oceanic.</em></p>
