A twin capital with decoration of plant motifs
The presented twin capital is one of four such column capitals discovered over the years 1947–1953 during archaeological research carried out while reconstructing the eastern wing of the monastery. It is considered to be one of the best examples of Romanesque masonry in Poland. It comes from the first monastic complex in Tyniec. However, researchers do not agree whether the twin capitals were originally located in the church or in the cloisters. The twin capital has the shape of two truncated pyramids turned upside down and connected in the upper part by a high cuboidal abacus. Due to some damage and numerous abrasions on the surface of the capital, the decorations are barely visible. Half of a twin capital with a motif of three hearts The presented capital is one of seven halves of twin capitals uncovered during the years 1947–1953 by archaeologists during research in the course of reconstructing eastern wing of the monastery. The head is considered as one of the best examples of Romanesque masonry in Poland. It comes from the first monastic complex in Tyniec. However, researchers do not agree whether the twin capitals discovered in Tyniec were originally located in the church or in the cloisters. The capital has the shape of a truncated pyramid turned upside down. The obverse is filled by ornamentation consisting of little stalks, but the pattern is barely discernible due to some defects and abrasion of the surface. Twin Angels
Twin Angels is a Chaco Culture Archaeological Protection Site administered by the Bureau of Land Management, Farmington Field Office in New Mexico. Twin Angels sits between the last visible traces of the Chaco Great North Road and Salmon Ruin, on the northernmost reach of the route originating at Pueblo Alto near Chaco Canyon. The complex includes a 17-room great house with 2 kivas, one of which is visible today. Ceramics associated with the great house and with trash deposits in the talus below show the site was occupied sometime between AD 1050 to 1300. Portions of the Twin Angels site were excavated in 1915 by Earl Morris, one of the first archaeologists to work in the region. This work exposed the fine core and veneer walls characteristic of most Chacoan outliers. After episodes of vandalism in the mid-20th century, the great house was stabilized and partially backfilled in 1987. Twin Cell
The various methods of expansion of the covered dwelling area, according to the progressive 'doubling', both in height and in depth, have determined the so-called 'typological process': from the 'matrix' type of elementary cells to the single-family row house or terrace-house type, up to the recent multi-family in-line house type (present sporadically in Pienza and only for the 'recast' of terraced houses). Single-cell homes, especially during the 19th century, expanded in height with the addition of a third floor, or merged together giving rise to online associations, to one or two apartments per floor. The stairs that connect the floors together are generally located in a central position. Although today the survey of the number of floors shows that most of the buildings consists of three floors above ground, probably the same houses originally did not exceed two floors. The fully preserved twin capital has the shape of two truncated pyramids turned upside down and connected in the upper part by a high cuboidal abacus. At the base, both segments are surrounded by an echinus. Most microalgal species, especially those from the subtropics, are genomically uncharacterized. Here we report the isolation and genomic characterization of 22 microalgal species from subtropical coastal regions belonging to multiple clades and three from temperate areas. Halotolerant strains including Halamphora, Dunaliella, Nannochloris, and Chloroidium comprised the majority of these isolates. The subtropical-based microalgae contained arrays of methyltransferase, pyridine nucleotide-disulfide oxidoreductase, abhydrolase, cystathionine synthase, and small-molecule transporter domains present at high relative abundance. We found that genes for sulfate transport, sulfotransferase, and glutathione S-transferase activities were especially abundant in subtropical, coastal microalgal species and halophytic species in general. Our metabolomics analyses indicate lineage- and habitat-specific sets of biomolecules implicated in niche-specific biological processes. Self-organization of conducting pathways explains complex wave trajectories in procedurally interpolated fibrotic cardiac tissue: a digital-twin study
<p><span>In precision cardiology, digital twinning technology (DT) holds promise for predicting arrhythmias by </span><span>leveraging patient data and biophysics knowledge. However, current DTs are designed to directly reproduce biopotential conduction in cardiac tissue, while only indirect non-invasive methods can be clinically implemented on real organs. This discrepancy challenges our understanding of DT applicability limits. This study aims to enhance DT by developing an in-vitro training complement. We conducted a frame-by-frame comparison of in-vitro optical mapping of biopotential conduction with machine learning (ML) optimized DT predictions. Patient-specific self-organized tissue samples of human induced pluripotent stem cells-derived cardiomyocytes (CMs) with diffuse fibrosis served as DT prototypes. High spatiotemporal resolution optical mapping recordings (</span><span>Δ</span><span>x=117 ± 4 </span><span>μ</span><span>m, </span><span>Δ</span><span>t=7.69 ms) and immunostainings were used to reproduce fibrotic samples with a linear size of 7.5 mm. Using data-driven ML-optimization of the Cellular Potts model, we examined wave propagation at the subcellular level. The modified Glazier-Graner-Hogeweg model accurately reflected the “perinatal window” until the 20th day of differentiation, affecting CMs self-organization. The percolation threshold of virtual conductive pathways reached 26% (26.7 ± 2.9% of CMs in-vitro), resulting in a spatial correlation of amplitude maps between prototype samples and their DT with Pearson’s coefficients of 0.83 ± 0.02. As a proof-of-concept, we demonstrated the ability of ML-optimized DT to predict and interpolate wavefront trajectories in optical mapping recordings. We found that mathematical approximation of fibrosis distribution played a key role in DT prediction accuracy, potentially informing the implementation of LGE-MRI detection of fibrosis within cardiac DT frameworks.<br><br>Dataset A: <span>Immunostaining images were sorted based on the day of enzymatic disaggregation (before and after day 20). We collected and sorted </span><span>α</span><span>-actinin, Connexin43 and DAPI immunostainings </span><span>for Cellular Potts Model optimization. During data processing, cell shape<span>s (n=109 and n=69 for CM and BPs respectively after day 20, n=209 and n=90 for CM and BPs respectively before day 20) were formalized.<br>Dataset C corresponds to FluoVolt recordings <span>(3 samples).
