Others are taken from the جوهرة الغوّاص و تحفة اهل الاختصاص, by MUḤAMMAD B. ‘IRÂḲ, who derived them from ‘ABD AL-‘AZÎZ MAHDAWÎ, etc.</p> <p>Of the prayers by ‘ABD AL-ḲÂDIR B. Kh. (see iv. 458), nor is it found elsewhere.</p> <p>See on the الفقه الاکبر, which is commonly (and also by the present commentator) ascribed to <em>Abu Ḥanîfah </em>(d. A.H. 150), Cat. Lugd. iv. 227, and A. von Kremer, Geschichte der herrschenden Ideen des Islams, p. 39 sqq. It was printed with a Hindûstânî translation, at Lakhnau, A.H. 1260.</p> <p>The preface begins: الحمدلله الواجب وجوده لذاته.</p> <p>The author says in it that no labour deserving the name of a commentary had been bestowed upon the work before him (fol. 2): ولکن لم اطلع له شرحا یبین شیئا من مجملاته و یحلّ عقدة من مشکلاته بل لم اجد له ما تعدّ عداد الشروح الخ. He quotes in his commentary the principal works on the <em>Kalâm</em> down to (Dawwânî’s) شرح العقائد العضدیة.</p> <p>It concludes in the following manner: الحمدلله علی اتمام شرح کلام امام الهمام و الصلوة و السلام علی سید الانام و علی آله العظام و اصحابه الکرام فی ثلث آخر لیلة العاشر شهر الحجة الحرام من شهور سنة اربع و ستین و الف فی فناء بلدة المحروسة سمرقند فی جوار خانقاه الحضرة القدسیة الحسنیة الخارزمیة.</p> <p>The present MS., the greater part of which (from fol. 20) is written in a legible Nasta’liḳ hand, though almost without diacritical points, and with no distinction of text and commentary, was transcribed during the author’s lifetime. It bears corrections, additions, and some notes by the author (marked with منه سلمه الله و ابقاه) on the margin. The first portion is ill written by a different hand. It bears similar corrections, and a few additions (marked with صح) have been inserted in it on separate slips of paper. Bodl. ii. 567 ad no. lxxxvi.</p> <p>The author’s preface begins: سبحان المتفرّد فی قیّومیّته بوجوب الازلیّة و البقاء’ المتوحّد فی دیمومیّة الوهیّته بامتناع التغیّر و الفناء’. He says subsequently: امّا بعد فانّ الله تعالی لما وفقنی حتّی صنّفتُ فی اکثر العلوم الدینیّة و المباحث الیقینیّة کتبا....اردتُ ان اکتب هذا الکتاب لاجل اکبر اولادی و اعزّهم علیّ الولد الصالح محمد.... و اشرح فیه المسائل الالهیّة و انبه علی الغوامض العقلیّة لیکون هذا الکتاب دستورا له یرجع فی المضایق الیه و یعول علیه و سمّیته بالاربعین فی اصول الدین.</p> <p>The first question is فی حدوث العالم; the second فی ان المعدوم لیس بشئ, etc. Each question has subdivisions, such as مقدّمة, برهان, حجّة, etc.</p> <p>Carefully written in a round hand. Of about the eighth century. Imperfect at the end; terminating in the 36<sup>th</sup> question. Foll. 31 and 40 have been supplied by a different hand.</p> <p>Some extracts from the author’s المعالم (see Ḥ. They are compiled from various earlier works, such as the glosses of Khayâlî, Aḥmad Jandî, ‘Iṣâm al-dîn (d. A.H. 943), and extend in this MS. over about one-third of the original work.</p> <p>The preface begins: الحمدلله علی اکبر آلائه العلیة.</p> <p>It contains a dedication, beginning (fol. 2):</p> <p>فاقول یا نور نوّر المشارق و المغارب بانوار عدالة الخاقان الاکبر الاعظم و القاان الاعدل<sup>1</sup> الاحکم الذی خصصته بلوازم معرفة کمال قدرتک.</p> <p>The first gloss refers to the words: لما کان مبنی الکلام (!), from the end of Taftâzânî’s preface.</p> <p>Well written, the greater part (from fol. 84) in Nasta’liḳ. Two authors of this surname wrote such glosses, according to Ḥ. Kh. iv. 220 and 221, viz. ‘Alî Muṣannifak (d. A.H. 875), and Alî ‘Arabî (d. A.H. 901).</p> <p>The <em>Basmalah</em> is followed by the words و قد کان و یکون به الاستعانة فی التتمیم, after which the first gloss begins thus: قوله قال اهل الحق قوله (اقول.r) الظاهر ان مقول القول حقائق الاشیاء ثابتة. The author frequently refers to the aforesaid glosses of <em>Aḥmad Jandî</em>, المحشّی الفاضل.</p> <p>This copy breaks off abruptly, though the last words are drawn up in the form of a conclusion. It extends over about one-third of the original work.</p> <p>Written in Nasta’liḳ, without diacritical points, and completed on 27 Muḥarram, 1023, by Ḳâsim b.
