Dr. Varga Csaba Széchenyi-díjas jogfilozófus (Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetem) ʻFortepan fénykép adományozóʼ [Pécs Aktuál podcast]

16:58

Fortepan's Hungarian national online photo collection has received 425 freely searchable and downloadable images as Csaba Varga's gift (<https://fortepan.hu/hu/photos/?donor=Varga%20Csaba%20dr.>), partly from his parents' family albums starting from the early 20th century, partly from whatever (family, industrial, or military) albums he has collected. At the same time, the part of the collection of photographs with own family roots and relevance also constitutes one of the most prestigious and freely accessible photographic representation of Pécs, the ancient Mediterranean university town as his hometown in South Transdanubia. This is the reason why the publicist of the online daily newspaper Pécs Aktuál initiated a conversation about the collection and above all about the family history it reveals, which in some parts is also a local part of the history of (coach, and later car body factory) industry and of military aviation in the Second World War (with the deployment of the Pécs short-range reconnaissance squadron in 1941, when the once Hungarian South, secessed from Hungary by the post-WWI Trianon peace treaty, was returned to its homeland and when the squadron was finally deployed to Krivoj Rog in the Soviet front).

DECISION Masterclass 2021 / How to write a good scientific paper (by Prof. Dr. Paolo Angeli)

https://decision-for-liver.eu/

The objective of the DECISION project is to enhance the understanding of the pathophysiology of decompensation of cirrhosis leading to acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) or death. This consortium will take advantage of already existing large and clinically well-characterized cohorts to ultimately develop prognostic and response tests and combinatorial therapies tailored to the needs of individual patients to decrease the risk of short-term death. In this Masterclass, invited speaker Prof. Dr. Paolo Angeli, the current editor-in-chief of the Journal of Hepatology (https://www.journal-of-hepatology.eu/), teaches his approach to #writing a good #scientificpaper and #publication and submitting it to the appropriate #journal, a process that he compares to the challenge of winning a soccer game. While focussing on concrete advice, he also points out several common mistakes that less experienced authors make, some of which can be easily avoided. How? Watch the video! The Masterclass is part of the DECISION project's training programme for early-career scientists and took place on September 8th 2021 near Barcelona, Spain, during the 3rd General Assembly (GA) Meeting of the DECISION project. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 847949. This video reflects only the presenter's view and the European Commission is not responsible for any use that may be made of the information it contains. DECISION Masterclass 2021 / How to write a paper (by Prof. Dr. Jonel Trebicka)

https://decision-for-liver.eu/

The objective of the DECISION project is to enhance the understanding of the pathophysiology of decompensation of cirrhosis leading to acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) or death. This consortium will take advantage of already existing large and clinically well-characterized cohorts to ultimately develop prognostic and response tests and combinatorial therapies tailored to the needs of individual patients to decrease the risk of short-term death. In this Masterclass, DECISION consortium member Prof. Dr. Jonel Trebicka (EFCLIF member and head of the Translational Hepatology Unit at the Hospital of Goethe University Frankfurt) who also serves as the coordinator of the topically related Horizon 2020 project MICROB-PREDICT (https://microb-predict.eu) provides a step-by-step guide on how to write a high-quality #scientificpaper #publication #paper. His advice includes reducing complexity, focussing on key results, displaying the distribution of data points, as well as avoiding lengthy introductions, poetic language, or complicated sentences.

University of Kansas Field Station: Cumulative field records of snake species collected by Dr. Henry S. Fitch 1948 - 2003, with a few additional records collected 2004 - 2016. Records contain capture locations, measurements, notes on reproduction, recapture, and growth data. This data package contains individual files for 14 species.

Dr. Henry S. Fitch began his pioneering research on the snake fauna of the Fitch Natural History Reservation and adjacent University of Kansas Field Station in 1948. Fitch remained an active researcher until the early 2000s. For nearly six decades he conducted extensive field work on snakes using capture/recapture techniques, and compiled other biological data as well (e.g., all snakes captured were weighed, measured, and marked with incomplete data collected on reproduction, stomach contents, and recaptures). This research resulted in scores of scientific publications on the ecology of the snakes. Henry S. Fitch died in 2009 and left as a legacy hand-written data sheets with approximately 60,000 capture records. George R. Pisani, a biologist at the University of Kansas and later at the Kansas Biological Survey, collaborated with Fitch on some ecological studies. Beginning about 2005, Pisani began the many-year process of converting the thousands of Fitch’s records of snake captures into an electronic database. This work was funded in part by the Kansas Dept. of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Chickadee Checkoff Program.
