Identification of the development of consumer ethnocentrism during a pandemic
<p>The aim of the study was to verify whether the current pandemic situation, which resulted in the so-called economic lockdown, and consequently limiting economic growth, affects consumer attitudes manifested by an increase in the tendency to prefer domestic products and to verify what kind of information campaign affects the change of this propensity. The level of ethnocentrism of the surveyed people was measured using the consumer ethnocentrism scale developed by American behavioral economists, and at the beginning the participants of the study were presented with press articles informing about the effects of buying domestic products. One article was positive, indicating that the choice of domestic products means patriotism and an expression of gratitude for domestic companies and employees, especially those supporting medical’s work during the pandemic. The second article had a negative overtone, indicating that the lack of purchase of domestic product harms the domestic economy and increases the level of unemployment, which especially during the pandemic and economic crisis may lead the country into a deep recession. The third article was neutral, without suggesting any effects or consequences.</p>
Health versus environmental benefits: Does additional information influence consumer acceptance of pulse-based spreads?
<p>Despite the known health benefits and the potential for substituting less environmentally sustainable consumed foods such as meat, the current intake of pulses in developed countries remains less than recommended. Barriers are related to sensory characteristics and lack of knowledge about preparation, while drivers of environmental benefits are intangible. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of additional information about health or environmental benefits of pulses on the acceptance of novel pulse-based products from chickpeas, black beans, and faba beans. Perceptions of these pulse-based spreads in a blind and informed stage were assessed with 202 consumers in urban and sub-urban areas of Denmark. In general, the familiar chickpea spread followed by the relatively most unfamiliar black bean spread was liked the most. Only for these two products, additional information increased hedonic perception, regardless of the context (health or environmental benefits). If consumers did not like the spread, as found for the faba bean spread, providing additional information did not significantly alter this perception. Participants’ preferences and willingness-to-pay (WTP) in a discrete choice experiment (DCE) was corresponding with hedonic scores while providing additional information was found to increase the WTP. These findings suggest that extrinsic cues such as health or environmental benefits may only be useful in products with an acceptable baseline taste profile. Moreover, black beans might be investigated as a promising source for further product development due to their acceptance by consumers besides being the comparably most unfamiliar pulse type.</p> <p> </p>

The impact of information disclosure on consumer acceptance of genome-edited foods in Japan
<p>Genome editing is promising to accelerate the rate of genetic progress by enabling the replacement of the germ cell lineage of commercial breeding animals with cells derived from genetically elite lines. This is an efficient way to produce foods and reduce food waste. However, foods using genome editing are not very familiar in Japan. The purpose of this study is to investigate consumer acceptance of genome-edited foods and the impact of information disclosure on it. We constructed an acceptance model for genome-edited foods and investigate the amount of willingness to pay for the level of information disclosure. Genome-edited food acceptance model illustrated that information credibility and perceived usefulness were significantly related to the consumer acceptance of genome-edited foods. WTP of functional information label is 76 JPY (approx. 0.69USD), and that of genome-edited food label is 11 JPY (approx. 0.1USD). For genome editing technology description, it was 38 JPY (approx. 0.345USD). The most important factor is functional information. Since this study is an early study in the genome-edited food acceptance model, we believe that there is room for various discussions in the future.</p>

Data from: Community Credit survey on trust in consumer financial services
<p class="MsoNormal">The Community Credit research project explores pathways for trusted collaboration between credit unions and the communities they serve. To understand the experiences of people historically underserved by the consumer financial services industry, we focused in particular on the lived experience of low-income residents in Southern California. As part of a larger, mixed-methods study, in 2022 we conducted an online survey investigating people's everyday financial practices, evolving perceptions of trust and risk, and their unmet financial needs. The general population survey data was collected between April 15 and April 22, 2022. The credit union data was collected between May 3 and July 18, 2022. This data set contains the responses of the survey participants after excluding any personally identifying data.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">All study materials and procedures were approved by the University of California, Irvine Office of Human Research Protections and the Institutional Review Board (protocol ID 20216839). Data from: Community Credit mapping of trust in consumer financial services
<p class="MsoNormal">The Community Credit research project explores pathways for trusted collaboration between credit unions and the communities they serve. To understand the experiences of people historically underserved by the consumer financial services industry, we focused in particular on the lived experience of low-income residents in Southern California. As part of a larger, mixed-methods study, in 2022 we mapped the landscape of financial services providers and advertisements in low-income neighborhoods in Orange County. Through documenting the presence of alternative financial services (AFS) providers and fringe financial advertisements, alongside traditional financial services providers, we investigated the spatial relationship between these businesses, as well as the factors that create consumers' sense of (dis)trust in them. This data set contains photographs taken as part of this mapping research.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">All study materials and procedures were approved by the University of California, Irvine Office of Human Research Protections and the Institutional Review Board (protocol ID 20216839). Norwegian hourly residential electricity demand data with consumer characteristics during the European energy crisis
<p>This dataset was collected to understand how Norwegian households responded to the electricity price shock due to the European energy crisis. It consists of consumer characteristics and their self-reported responses to the extraordinarily high electricity prices which were collected by a survey of 4,446 consumers. The consumer characteristics contain information about socio-demographics such as income, age, education, number of residents, residence type, residence size, and how conscious the respondents are about their electricity consumption. Furthermore, major electricity-consuming appliances are identified, such as whether the residents have an electric vehicle and how they heat their homes, and if they have a variable electricity tariff. In addition, hourly metered electricity consumption data covering October 2020 to March 2022 from a subset of 1,136 residential consumers of the surveyed households and the total hourly residential electricity consumption per Norwegian bidding area from July 2019 to July 2022as well as the hourly day-ahead electricity prices are included in the dataset. Experimental auction to assess consumer perception and willingness to pay for ready-to-eat fresh salads with more sustainable packaging
<p>The provided Excel sheet contains a dataset generated from an experiment conducted face-to-face with consumers of ready to eat fresh salads on December 19th and 20th, 2023, using a questionnaire. It was an auction aimed at understanding consumers' preferences and willingness to pay for 100% recyclable and 100% biodegradable packaging.</p> <p>Each column in the table represents a particular variable, and each row corresponds to a specific record in the dataset. The dataset comprises 70 columns and 306 rows, where the first row contains the variable names and the second row describes the meaning or question associated with each variable.<br>To enhance readability, each variable is color-coded differently. This means that as you move from one color to another, you are transitioning from one variable to the next.<br>Most variables are derived from validated scales, such as General Shopping Behavior, General Personal Values and Attitudes, Environmental Consciousness Scale, Openness to Innovation Scale, NEP Scale, and Green Consumption Values. These scales are generally assessed using a Likert scale of 5 or 7 points for each statement or item included in the scale. Each statement is in a separate column, and the combined columns of statements form the respective variable, which is the scale in this context. Therefore, the total number of variables included in this dataset is 24.</p>
