This second Bahâr, which relates the adventures of Mu’izz-aldîn or Alḳâ’im-biamrillâh (see the preceding copy), bears the special titles of Mu’izznâma معزّنامه, Ḳâ’imnâma قائمنامه, or even Ṣâḥibḳirânnâma صاحب قراننامه, and is subdivided into a muḳaddimah and two Gulshan, each Gulshan containing two Gulzâr. Beginning: هرگونه ستايشى كه در دل هر ستايش كننده بگذرد و زبان ( بر زبان Bodl.copy correctly) او جارى گردد سزاوار جناب خداونديست الخ. Conclusion:مناسب چنان نمود كه مقدّمۀ بهار دويم را كه عبارت از دفتر قائمنامه باشد درين مقام باختتام رسانيده شروع در گلستان اوّل از بهار دويم از بوستان خيال نمايد الخ. The designation given to this volume in the colophon, viz. تمام شد جلد ثالث مهدينامه, is incorrect, since the Mahdinâma comprises only the first two volumes. No date. The first daftar or jild of the third Bahâr or second Gulistân of the Bûstân-i-Khayâl, corresponding to the eighth volume of the whole work. This third Bahâr (the largest of the three), which relates the adventures of Ṣâḥib Ḳirân-i-Akbar Shâhzâda Mu’izz-aldîn, Ṣâḥib Ḳirân-i-A’żam Shâhzâda Khurshîd Tâjbaksh, and Ṣâḥib Ḳirân-i-Aṣghar Shâhzâda Badr-i-munîr, bears the special title of Khurshîdnâma (خورشيدنامه), and is subdivided into seven books (دفتر or جلد) or eight volumes, the last two of which (the fourteenth and fifteenth, together with the Khâtimah) are missing in this collection. This first daftar begins: اداى حمد و سپاس ربّ العالمين حكيم عليم و نعت درود سيّد المرسلين رسول كريم و مدح و منقبت الخ. In l.6 this heading appears: آغاز گلستان دوم بهار سيوم از كتاب بوستان كه موسوم است بخورشيدنامه، امّا راويان اخبار و ناقلان آثار و محدّثان اين حديث شيرين بيان و مخبر ( مخبران Bodl.copy correctly ) اين داستان رنگین الخ. Conclusion: ان شاء الله تعالى بعد ازين احوال صاحبقران اعظم و صاحبقران اصغر در دفتر دويم مذكور كرده ( كرد read) خواهد شد الخ. Dated the 7th of Muḥarram, A.H. 1202 (A.D. 1787, Oct. 19). The first Bahâr or the first two volumes (جلد) of one of the largest and most famous Persian romances, the Bûstân-i-Khayâl or ‘garden of imagination,’ by <a href="http://worldcat.org/identities/lccn-n88001239/">Mir Muḥammad Taḳî alja’farî alḥusainî </a>of Aḥmadâbâd in Gujarât, with the takhalluṣ Khayâl, who wrote this vast collection of tales, in which historical legends are blended with the adventures of Jinns and Peris, at the request of his noble patron, Nawwâb Rashîdkhân Bahâdur, wherefore, as is stated in the Berlin copy (W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., p. 993), the work is also sometimes styled فرمايش رشيدى, and died A.H. 1173 (A.D. 1759, 1760); see A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 193, and Rieu ii. p. 770 sq. It comprises altogether fifteen volumes (جلد), divided into three Bahâr (spring), the second and third of which have the additional title of a first and second Gulistân, comp. the detailed description of this bulky romance in the Bodleian Cat., No. 480 (Caps. Or. D. 9-23, the most complete copy of the work extant, in which only one of the fifteen volumes is missing). This first Bahâr, which bears besides the special title of Mahdînâma (مهدى نامه), was commenced A.H. 1155 (A.D. 1742, 1743), at Shâhjahânâbâd, and serves as a sort of muḳaddimah or introduction to the whole work, relating the life and adventures of Sulṭân Abû-alḳâsim Muḥammad Mahdî and the other ancestors and predecessors of Sulṭân Mu’izz-aldîn (i.e. the Khalîf Alḳâ’im biamrillâh, the hero of the second Bahâr or first Gulistân); the last or fifteenth volume of the whole work (the end of the third Bahâr or second Gulistân) was commenced A.H. 1169 and completed in the month Dhû-alḥijjah of the same year (A.D. 1756, September), at Murshidâbâd, see Bodleian Cat., loc. cit.
