Dataset from Experimental and Nonlinear Finite Element Modeling Investigating an Innovative Buckling Restrained Bracing System for Rehabilitation of Seismic Deficient Structures

<p>The data presented in this paper were collected experimentally and modeled using the finite element method. A total of six BRBs (i.e., duplicates of three types of BRB core bars) specimens were tested experimentally and verified numerically using the finite element method employing the commercial Software ABAQUS. Specific labeling was used to designate each BRB type. Three core bars were used in the tested BRBs: fully-threaded, threaded-notched, and smooth-shaved. The specimens are labeled according to their core bar type and diameter. i.e., BRB-12-Th stands for a full threaded core bar diameter of 12 mm, the threaded notched type was labeled BRB-12-Th-Nd, and the smooth shave one was labeled BRB-12-Sh.</p> <p>Further details of the tested BRBs are included in the excel file called dimensions and properties of BRBs. The worksheet provides details of the BRB components (i.e., core bar, restraining unit, and innovative end units). The dimensions and strength of the materials were obtained from coupon tests. The experimental data are presented in the second excel file labeled hysteresis with three embedded worksheets, one for each type of BRB. The excel sheets provide the cyclic loading data and plots showing the hysteresis behavior of tested BRBs. A sample of the loading protocol included in the second excel file is presented in Fig.1. The third excel file presents the analytical data extracted from experimental data that has two sheets: stiffness and energy dissipation. The sheet labeled stiffness has the secant stiffness versus deformation plot for the push-pull cycles (compression-tension). The second sheet labeled energy dissipation shows the cumulative energy dissipated.</p>

<p>We study the buckling of pressurized spherical shells by&nbsp;<br> Monte Carlo simulations in which the<br> detailed balance is explicitly broken -- thereby driving the shell<br> active, out of thermal equilibrium.<br> Such a shell typically has &nbsp;either higher (active) or<br> lower (quiescent) fluctuations<br> compared to one in thermal equilibrium depending on how the detailed balance<br> is broken.<br> We show that, for the same set of elastic parameters, a shell<br> that is not buckled in thermal equilibrium can be buckled if turned<br> active. Similarly a shell that is buckled in thermal equilibrium<br> can unbuckle if turned quiescent.<br> Based on this result, we suggest that it is possible to experimentally design<br> microscopic elastic shells whose buckling can be optically controlled.</p>

Wmid-c2fb5e - Medieval buckle or hinge

An incomplete repaired sheet copper alloy metal hinge or possible buckle plate of probable Medieval dating (c. AD 1200 to AD 1500). The hinge has been made from one piece of sheet copper alloy metal folded over and three rectangular loops cut out. The base is rectangular, with an incomplete circular rivet hole present on the outer edge. The hinge has been repaired twice. Once when the left hand loop broke, and another sheet of copper alloy metal was inserted inside the hinge with a new loop and riveted in place. The rivet is now missing. The second repair is a reenforcement plate on the underneath of the right hand loop. This still has a copper alloy rivet holding it in place, with that rivet hole being placed above the original hole. The old hole has an internal diameter of 3.0 mm. No decoration is present on either side. Rusted Buckle

This artifact is a harness buckle, possibly for a horse. This was found with other artifacts at the McClure farmstead. The site is located in Miller Grove, a freed African-American community located in the Shawnee National Forest. The excavations were performed by an SIUC Field School in 2019. Wmid-438e0c - Post Medieval buckle frame

An incomplete silvered white metal rectangular buckle frame of Post Medieval dating (AD 1690 to AD 1720). Less than 50% of the buckle frame is present, consisting of one loop. The front has been decorated with a ring and dot design in each surviving corner and one in between. Triangular knops are present on the corners. Crescents are present linking each ring and dot roundel. Rouletted grooves are present on the inner edges of the crescents. The reverse of the buckle frame is flat and undecorated. An incomplete copper alloy rectangular shoe or knee buckle of Post Medieval dating (AD 1680 to AD 1720). The buckle frame is rectangular. The frame has been decorated with four transverse grooves either end of the spindle. The outer edges are expanded at the centre point, with two notches removed from the edge. The frame is drilled for a separate spindle. The chape is incomplete, with the attachment end missing. The pin is triangular. Dataset for: Buckling of lipidic ultrasound contrast agents under quasi-static load

<p>Collapse of lipidic ultrasound contrast agents under high-frequency compressive load has been historically interpreted by the vanishing of surface tension. By contrast, buckling of elastic shells is known to occur when costly compressible stress is released through bending. Through quasi-static compression experiments on lipidic  shells, we analyze the buckling events in the framework of classical elastic buckling theory and deduce the mechanical characteristics of these shells. They are then compared to that obtained through acoustic characterization.</p>
