Dataset from University of Idaho 2004, master's thesis [Littoral ecology of epilithic algae in the Rocky Reach Pool, Mid-Columbia River (Washington State) - The effects of reservoir fluctuations.]
(Abstract from thesis) Epilithic algae, water column physical/chemical properties, and sediments were examined in the impounded Mid-Columbia River including the Rocky Reach Reservoir. Primary objectives included determination of the effects reservoir drawdown has on epilithic algae and potential nutrient enrichment via sediment. Epilithic algae were analyzed by pigment concentration, gravimetrically, and species composition. Reservoir elevation fluctuated at higher rates at tailrace sites (0.41-0.25 m/hr) compared to the forebay site (0.06-0.08 m/hr). Littoral exposure times were also greater at tailrace sites (mean of 8 hrs compared to 0 hr at the forebay site). Mean epilithic algae monochromatic chlorophyll a over all sampling periods at mainstem sites was 76.7 ± 4.8 mg/m2 (95 % C.I.). Epilithic algae monochromatic chlorophyll a in the zone of water fluctuation (0-1 m) was less at Wells tailrace (38.8 mg/m2) compared to Rocky Reach forebay (141.3 mg/m2) during summer, 2000 and 2001. Mean epilithic biofilm ash-free oven-dry weight over all sampling periods at mainstem sites was 25.6 ± 1.5 g/m2 (95 % C.I.). Mean autotrophic index across all mainstem locations was 439 indicating a large heterotrophic component within the epilithic biofilms. Epilithic algae communities were dominated by diatoms (50.2 %) and cyanobacteria (35.9 %), with some green algae (13.8 %). Canonical correlation analysis indicated that temperature, depth, site, and the water elevation change rate were important controllers of epilithic algae chlorophyll pigments. Mean textural characteristics of dredged sediment were 51.1 % sand, 43.2 % silt, and 5.7 % clay. Mean organic matter content in this sediment was 4.1 %. The mean seston sedimentation rate across mainstem locations was 11.3 g m-2 d-1 and organic matter comprised 14.7 % of the material collected from the water column.

Master's Thesis - Audio Files

Comparison of machine learning-based music source separation algorithms with respect to vocal timbre

Master's Thesis - Audio Files

State-of-the-art music source separation algorithms are commonly evaluated using standard evaluation metrics. Spectral features such as the Spectral Centroid are used in this thesis to describe the quality of selected algorithms. Interesting statements about the quality of modern music source separation algorithms can be made based on vocal recordings especially produced for this thesis. It can be solidly argued that the gender of the singers and the song's language have almost no influence on the quality of the algorithms. In contrast, the genre and the associated instrumentation play a much more significant role. This thesis attempts to introduce the evaluation metric Mean Absolute Error of Spectral Centroids (MAESC) among others, which could be used in the development of future MSS algorithms.

In the course of further investigation, vocal recordings were made, which will serve as additional data material. The recordings were made at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW) on the 3rd of July 2024.

Two female and two male singers sang the same five pop songs under the same conditions in the same studio with the same microphone and the same vocal processing chain. The songs were selected in advance based on their musical genre and instrumentation in order to achieve variety. The musical accompaniment has been provided by the company “Tency Music”.

The vocal quality and technique of the performers as well as the technical equipment is state-of-the-art. The recordings were made with an Apple MacBook Air M2, 2022 using the software Ableton Live 11. The 2-channel USB-C audio interface SSL 2 from “Solid State Logic” was connected to the MacBook Air. The microphone was a Neumann U87 Ai studio microphone. The recordings were made in a professional recording studio and the conditions were identical for all singers. The recording engineer processed all the files with the same effects chain (delay, reverb) so that a comparison can be drawn.

The respective MIXES as well as the REFERENCES of the individual singers can be downloaded. The audio files provided may only be used for academic purposes and are protected by copyright.

Vienna, 16/09/2024

3D Cell Instance Segmentation Dataset of Master Thesis "Enhancing Cell Instance Segmentation in 3D Microscopy using Self-Supervised ViTs"

This is the 3D cell instance segmentation dataset of master thesis "Enhancing Cell Instance Segmentation in 3D Microscopy using Self-Supervised ViTs". The data is originally from the BBBC027 dataset comprising 30 sets of 3D image sets with high SNR level of quality. Because only the 4 to 100 slides of every 3D image set are annotated and the main difference between annotated and unannoated slides are the brightness, to avoiding misunderstanding by the algorithms, we removed the unannotated slides and separate every slide as individual images. We also converted the dataset to MSCOCO format for convenience.

Gamification of Student Development Projects in Software Engineering Education - Master's Thesis Dataset

This dataset contains all questionnaire results of the Master's Thesis Gamification of Student Development Projects in Software Engineering Education. The thesis will be linked to this set as soon as it is completed and publically available.

In total, five questionnaires were conducted. To analyze users and requirements, a questionnaire with students and project supervisors was conducted. The implemented tool was evaluated using a pre-, mid-, and post-study questionnaire. This dataset contains a folder for each questionnaire including results in CSV format, results in HTML format, which is more human readable, and the questionnaire in PDF format. Due to the used survey tool, lamapoll, some parts of the files are in German. However, the questions and responses are all in English.

Additionally, the scripts folder contains the Python scripts that were used to produce the graphics of the thesis. The Python libraries
matplotlib
,
pandas
,
scipy
,
numpy
, and
plot_likert
are required to run the scripts. Some of them use the two provided files
evalutation_concat_raw_excel.csv
, which is a concatenation of the results of the three evaluation questionnaires, and
sprint_stats.csv
, which contains statistics of the sprints relevant to the user study.

Proof of Concept database with inputs and outputs of the Master thesis: Analyzing Software Delivery Performance behavior in popular Open Source Software Projects on a Release timeline basis through delivery metrics

The software has become one of the main assets to deliver services today. Thus, software delivery has been dealing with a competitive and dynamic environment where the demand for faster and more assertive deliverables, called here Releases, only increases. Agile development methods emerged helping to accelerate software delivery, embracing industry and open source community. Since then, the software delivery frequency has expanded and improved bringing more adopters of rapid release cycles to reduce their time-to-market. However, using only rapid releases can not be enough as measuring software delivery can answer essential questions, like how software delivery is happening and how it should be. Some approaches for measuring software delivery appeared such as Software Delivery Performance (SDP) where software delivery is measured as a consequence of capabilities evolution. Popularity in Open Source Software Projects (OSSP) means that a project is mature enough in the community to fit the software demand and, therefore, is likely to be ready to be measured through a software delivery approach like SDP. In light of it, this work offers means to analyze SDP behavior in popular Open Source Software Projects on a Release timeline basis through delivery metrics. The results demonstrated that popularity is efficient filtering, as it improves the OSSP delivery, supporting the work's reliability and accuracy. The source code and methodology are published as a replication package to encourage reproducibility and future research.
