This results of the desk review has been submitted for publication to 'LIVES Working Papers' and 'Swiss Psychology Open' . The two versions of the desk review differ slightly. The version for LIVES Working Papers, included the results of the Delphi survey and the resulting intervention scenarios. The version for Swiss Psychology Open, did not include the Delphi survey results and the resulting intervention scenarios, but included a more detailed discussion of the review results.</p>

Data from “A Mixed Method Approach to Understanding the Public Health Impact of a School-Based Citizen Science Program to Reduce Arsenic in Private Well Water”

Objectives We have approached the problem of low well water testing rates in Maine and New Hampshire communities by developing the All About Arsenic (AAA) project, which engages secondary school teachers and students as citizen scientists in collecting well water samples for analysis of arsenic and other toxic metals and supports their outreach efforts to their communities. Methods We assessed this project’s public health impact by analyzing student data relative to existing well water quality datasets in both states. In addition, we surveyed private well owners who contributed well water samples to the project to determine the actions taken to mitigate arsenic in well water. Dataset from: Reporting of patient involvement: A mixed-methods analysis of current practice in health research publications

<p>This record includes the data associated with the study &quot;Reporting of patient involvement: A mixed-methods analysis of current practice in health research publications&quot;. In this study, we&nbsp;evaluated the extent and quality of patient involvement reporting in examples of current practice in health research. We used a targeted search strategy to&nbsp;identify publications that report on patient involvement using&nbsp;the following three samples:</p> <ul> <li>Publications published in 2019 in&nbsp;<em>The BMJ,&nbsp;</em>which requires&nbsp;reporting on patient involvement in research articles</li> <li>Publications listed in the PCORI database.&nbsp;We filtered for topic: example of engagement in health research; stakeholder involvement: patients; year: 2019</li> <li>Publications citing the <a href="https://www.bmj.com/content/358/bmj.j3453">GRIPP2 reporting checklist</a> or a <a href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1369-7625.2010.00607.x">critical appraisal guideline to assess the quality and impact of&nbsp;user involvement in research</a></li> </ul> <p>After applying our inclusion and exclusion criteria, the final sample consisted of 87 publications that reported on patient involvement.&nbsp;Included publications were coded according to three coding schemes.</p> <p>This deposit includes the following:</p> <ul> <li>Overview of publications that did not meet our inclusion criteria across all 3 samples&nbsp;(BMJ, PCORI, and citation)</li> <li>Overview of publications and additional documents (if applicable) that met our inclusion criteria across all 3 samples (BMJ, PCORI, and citation)</li> <li>Coded segments and analysis for the coding scheme&nbsp;&quot;Phase of involvement&quot; across all 3 samples&nbsp;(BMJ, PCORI, and citation). <p>This repository contains all raw and derived data produced as part of the <a href="https://rbtl-fs22.github.io/website/">ETH Zurich course &quot;Research Beyond the Lab: Open Science and Research Methods for a Global Engineer&quot; (151-8102-00L)</a> offered in spring term 2022.</p> <p>Students were assigned teams of four to conduct a collaborative research project broadly addressing the theme of &ldquo;Trash in the Public Spaces of Zurich&rdquo; in collaboration with <a href="https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/ted/de/index/entsorgung_recycling.html">Entsorgung &amp; Recycling Z&uuml;rich (ERZ)</a>, the waste management department at Stadt Z&uuml;rich.</p> <p>Research methods and design are taught in the first half of the course. Surveys and a waste characterisation study are then designed based on the research questions students have developed in their respective teams. The collected raw data is used in the course to teach principles of research data management, tidy data structures, reproducible research with R &amp; RStudio, and collaboration and version control with Git &amp; GitHub.</p>

Disease and lesion maps - part of the Scientific opinion on the evaluation of public and animal health risks in case of a delayed post-mortem inspection in ungulates

<p>EFSA was requested to assess the impact on effectiveness of <em>post-mortem</em> inspection in terms of any change in the sensitivity of detection of animal diseases of domestic and wild ungulates listed according to Article 5 of Regulation (EC) No 2016/429 and septicaemia, pyaemia, toxaemia or viraemia, when carried out after up to 24 hours or up to 72 hours after slaughter in comparison to when it is carried out immediately after slaughter. In order to identify the main lesions associated with the target diseases, a so called &ldquo;disease map&rdquo; was built, with the information about the clinical forms of the diseases&nbsp; (acute, subacute, chronic, or latent forms) and clinical signs, as well as potential lesions that could be observed on the respective diseased animals.</p> <p>The following information is indicated for each disease/condition in the disease map:</p> <ol> <li>The susceptible animal species</li> <li>Whether there is any surveillance programme in place in the EU</li> <li>The signs associated with the disease that could be detected at <em>ante mortem </em>inspection;</li> <li>The lesions associated with the disease that could be detected at <em>post mortem</em> inspection</li> <li>The probability of detecting the disease during the PMI as normally carried out.</li> <li>Whether carcass swabbing and/or laboratory tests are normally carried out.</li> </ol> <p>From the disease map, the list of organs to be considered at <em>post mortem</em> inspection and the lesions, a &ldquo;lesion map&rdquo; was built by connecting animal species with organs, lesions and corresponding disease. This was done to facilitate the construction of a questionnaire where, for each organ and the five types of lesions, the respondents (meat inspectors) had to provide a numerical answer about how many carcasses out of 100 with the given lesion, will be still detected after 24- or 72-h of refrigerated storage.</p>

We make reference to a parallel dataset and analysis of tweets in Arabic during thesame period. The contribution of this paper is a description of our dataset, our coding process to indicate tweets with health related advice, and our analysis and comparisons of the characteristics of the tweets with and without health-related advice. These contributions providethe basis for future research on semi-automated classifiers for health-related advice and efforts to reduce thespread of harmful health advice.</p>

AraHealth: A Dataset for Arabic Health-Related Advice Directed to the General Public on Twitter During the Early Spread of COVID-19 [Dataset]

<p>Health-related advice directed to the general public on Twitter provides insight into the use of social media during health emergencies. This paper describes our data collection, sampling, and analysis of 24 million tweets in Arabic in March and early April 2020. We make reference to a parallel dataset and analysis of tweets in English during the same period. The contribution of this paper is a description of our dataset, our coding process to indiciate tweets with health related advice, and our analysis and comparisons of the characteristics of the tweets with and without health-related advice. Present and future distribution of bat hosts of sarbecoviruses: implications for conservation and public health

<p>Global changes in response to human encroachment into natural habitats and carbon emissions are driving the biodiversity extinction crisis and increasing disease emergence risk. Host distributions are one critical component to identify areas at risk of viral spillover, and bats act as reservoirs of diverse viruses. We developed a reproducible ecological niche modelling pipeline for bat hosts of SARS-like viruses (subgenus Sarbecovirus), given that several closely-related viruses have been discovered and sarbecovirus-host interactions have gained attention since SARS-CoV-2 emergence. We assessed sampling biases and modeled current distributions of bats based on climate and landscape relationships and project future scenarios for host hotspots. The most important predictors of species distributions were temperature seasonality and cave availability. We identified concentrated host hotspots in Myanmar and projected range contractions for most species by 2100. Our projections indicate hotspots will shift east in Southeast Asia in locations greater than 2 °C hotter in a fossil-fueled development future. Hotspot shifts have implications for conservation and public health, as loss of population connectivity can lead to local extinctions, and remaining hotspots may concentrate near human populations.</p>

A New Approach for an Old Idea - Professor Kelvin Tsoi (The Chinese University of Hong Kong, School of Public Health and Primary Care)</p> <p>Bio: Professor Kelvin Tsoi is an Epidemiologist specialized in Digital Health. His research interests focus on digital innovation in chronic disease management, including mobile and telecare application for hypertension management, technological implementation and social engagement for cognitive screening, artificial intelligent application on electronic health records. He also works as the traditional epidemiologist on evidence-based medicine and population cohort studies. He obtained his Bachler Degree from Department of Statistics and Doctor of Philosophy from School of Public Health in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He further received post-doctoral training in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics. He was also appointed as a Director of CUHK JC Bowel Cancer Education Centre to promote colorectal cancer screening. In 2011, he worked as a research scientist in Hospital Authority. He led projects covering a wide range of service areas on chronic diseases, such as service demand projection for schizophrenia and dementia. The experience of database management enhanced his understanding of the HA database structures. In 2013, he was invited to join the interdisciplinary team for Big Data research and worked closely with a team of engineers and data scientists. Impact of public health expenditure on malnutrition among Peruvians during the period 2010-2020: A panel data analysis

<p><strong><span>Background: </span></strong><a name="_Hlk170909708"></a><span>The study analyzes the impact of public health spending on malnutrition among Peruvians, using data from the National Household Survey, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics and the Ministry of Economy and Finance from 2010. -2020. Previous studies have revealed the existing relationship of health spending with the reduction of malnutrition</span><span>.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Methods:</span></strong><span> A quantitative approach is considered, with an explanatory type of research using panel data methodology considering the bidimensionality of the data, which allows quantifying this effect for the Peruvian case using the National Household Survey, data from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, as well as information from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics and the</span><strong><span> </span></strong><span>Transparency Portal of the Ministry of Economy and Finance in the period 2010-2020.</span><strong><span> </span></strong></p> <p><strong><span>Results: </span></strong><span>The results show that public expenditure on health has a negative relationship with malnutrition; the rural sector has a positive relationship with malnutrition given the limitations present for access to adequate food. Similarly, the unemployment rate shows a positive relationship with malnutrition, given that being unemployed leads to a higher cause of malnutrition in the population, and the gross domestic product has a negative relationship with malnutrition, given that greater economic growth produces an impact on reducing malnutrition, with the greatest impact being on the rural population and the gross domestic product. </span></p> <p><strong><span>Conclusions:</span></strong><span> In the analysis period 2010-2020 in Peru, based on the panel data analysis, the impact of public health expenditure on reducing malnutrition is observed in 10 departments, achieving a reduction in malnutrition; while in 14 departments, this indicator has not been reduced.</span></p>
