Sculpture of a Roman gladiator **A 3D model of an eighteenth-century bronze sculpture created by Pius Weloński (1849–1931).** This figurative, whole-body sculpture depicts a Roman gladiator with an upraised arm. The pedestal bears the following inscription: Ave Caesar! Morituri, salutant [Long live Caesar! Those who are going to die greet you]. The gladiator is – judging by his props – most likely a retiarius [net-fighter]. Roman sculpture of Rea Silvia was found in the excavations of the Roman theater in Cartagena (Spain), ancient city of Cartago Nova. It is a sculpture carved in marble of Luni that represents Rea Silvia, daughter of Aeneas. Rea Silvia is considered the mother of Romulus and Remus, founders of Rome. This sculpture is dated to the end of the 1st century BC. 3D model created in Reality Capture software from 45 images. Although the identity of the character is unknown, some researchers believe that it could be the representation of Faustina Maior (wife of Emperor Antonino Pio, 2nd century). In any case, the beauty of the portrait and its quality are irrefutable proof that we are facing a character from high Roman society. Amazon  "Roman copy of a Greek Bronze by Cresilas of ca. 440 BC. In mythology, Amazons were mighty female warriors who fought against the Greeks. These sensual but fierce women offered classical sculptors the opportunity to depict the bared female breast. Statue reproduces a famous Greek original depicting an amazon wounded beneath her right breast. It was one of several statues of Amazons entered in a sculptors competition at the temple of Artemis at Ephesus in western Asia Minor, about 440 BC. The sculptor of this entry is believed to have been Cresilas. According to the ancient writer Pliny, the contest was judged by the sculptors themselves, and each voted for his own first and gave second place honors to a work by Polkyleitos, making him the winner.
