Dementia mortality rates at the provincial level in Italy from 2012-2019 in the form of Standardized Mortality Ratios (SMR)

Dementia is becoming increasingly prevalent in the global population and has been designated as a worldwide public health priority by the World Health Organization. In Italy, it is projected that by 2051, there will be 280 elderly individuals for every 100 young individuals, resulting in a rise in all age-related chronic diseases, including dementia. Presently, the estimated number of individuals suffering from dementia is over 1 million, predominantly with Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Comprehensive investigations into the causes of dementia pose challenges due to the intricate nature of these conditions and their prolonged course. This database presents mortality rates for AD and PD at the provincial level in Italy over an 8-year period (2012-2019) in the form of Standardized Mortality Ratios (SMR). Access to long-term, spatially detailed, and easily accessible data could promote both health monitoring and the exploration of new treatments, drugs, and innovative methodologies for early dementia diagnosis.

Curralanty Moated Site: SMR No. OF042-003----
Anglo-Norman defended homestead constructed c. 1200-300 AD and known locally as the 'Pound Fort'. Some moated sites may have served as defended farmsteads, others as medieval barns and some as earthwork castles. This is one of 16 moated sites in County Offaly. Earthwork stands on elevated land with good views of the surrounding countryside, in the townland of Curralanty (Churrach an Leantaigh/the marsh of An Leantach, possibly a Kilkenny surname) near the village of Shinrone, Co. Offaly. Earthwork consists of a trapezoidal-shaped platform enclosed by a low earthen bank with raised rounded corners and a wide flat-bottomed fosse with slight evidence of an outer bank on southern side only. Possible ramped entrance off centre to south on the west side of the platform. This monument stands on private land and there is no access to the monument without the landowner's permission. Killodiernan Trial Slab (SMR No. TN009-040005-)
Sandstone slab lying against inner face of southern wall at the east end of Killodiernan Romanesque Church ruins (TN009-040001-) in North Tipperary. The stone has a poorly executed pocked carving consisting of three poorly drawn circles the centre of which are bisected by a poorly excecuted incised horizontal line. The purpose of this stone is unknown and may have been a trial piece to teach how to carve onto a stone surface. The pock marks of the tool used to carve the circles and the line are clearly visible on the 3D model. The name Killodiernan is translated as the church of the O'Tiernans and the Cill placename may suggest an early medieval date for the church site. For more information on the stone slab, visit: https://maps.archaeology.ie/HistoricEnvironment/?SMRS=TN009-040005- Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
