Data from DIAMAS follow-up survey about funding practices
<p>The WP5 team of the DIAMAS project designed a follow-up survey to investigate the funding <br>practices of IPSPs more deeply. We examined the proportion of Diamond publishing within the <br>same IPSP by output type, and the capability to plan for the future. We also enquired about <br>spending priorities, reasons for fundraising and the amount of work required, and asked about <br>views on institutional publishing funding.</p> <p><br>The project sent the follow-up survey to respondents of the DIAMAS survey (metadata and <br>aggregated data available <a href="../records/10590503">here</a>) who agreed to be contacted. Emails used unique identifiers, <br>enabling us to merge databases and easily recover information gathered from the first survey <br>for more advanced cross-analysis.</p> <p><br>This follow-up survey was open during the last two months of 2023 and successfully garnered <br>469 answers. After cleaning (mainly deleting blank surveys and duplicates), we retained 383 <br>relevant answers, a response rate of 56%.</p>

<p>These are pseudo-anonymised data from the VIBRA randomized trial: "Offering ART refill through community health workers versus clinic-based follow-up after home-based same-day ART initiation in rural Lesotho: The VIBRA cluster-randomised clinical trial". The data dictionary explains the data available in the dataset. Between August 2018 and May 2019, 257 eligible individuals from 117 consenting villages were enrolled from two districts of Lesotho, and followed up for a maximum of 15 months. <p>**********<br>Can Place-Based Crime Prevention Impacts be Sustained Over Long Durations? 11-Year Follow-Up of a Quasi-Experimental Evaluation of a CCTV Project<br>**********</p> <p>The phase-specific datasets for the main and displacement analyses are contained in the “1.datasets” folder. </p> <p>The scripts used to conduct the microsynthetic control matching analyses are contained in the “2.Rscripts” folder. The subfolders “3.outputs_main” and "4.outputs_displacement" contains all graphs and tables generated by the microsynth package. Please note that running the analysis will take several hours on most computer systems.</p> <p>The Microsoft Excel file displays the results of all models conducted for this analysis. Yellow tabs contain the WDD results presented in the text of the article. Red tabs are the per-capita (quarter-year) microsynth results used to calculate WDD values. All other tabs contain the raw microsynth outputs used to calculate the per-capita results. </p>

Myotonic dystrophy research: imaging result files ( DTI, VBM) from a 5-year longitudinal follow-up study
<p>This ZIP-file contains supplementary data belonging to the manuscript</p> <p><strong>"Tracking the brain in myotonic dystrophy: a 5-year longitudinal follow-up study", published in PLOS ONE.</strong></p> <p>In this manuscript we aimed to examine the natural history of brain involvement in adult-onset myotonic dystrophies type 1 and 2 (DM1, DM2). We conducted a longitudinal observational study to examine functional and structural cerebral changes in myotonic dystrophies. We enrolled 16 adult-onset DM1 patients, 16 DM2 patients, and 17 controls. At baseline (T1) and at follow-up (T2) participants underwent neurological, neuropsychological, and 3T-brain MRI examinations using identical study protocols that included voxel-based morphometry and diffusion tensor imaging.</p> <p>The ZIP-file contains imaging result files from the different statistical analyses. </p>

Mental health and alcohol use among patients attending a post-COVID-19 follow-up clinic: A cohort study.
<p>Study dataset</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p><strong>Background:</strong> Ongoing mental health problems following COVID-19 infection warrant greater examination. This study aimed to investigate psychiatric symptoms and problematic alcohol use among Long COVID patients.<br> <br> <strong>Methods: </strong>The study was conducted at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital’s post-COVID-19 follow-up clinic in Dublin, Ireland. A prospective cohort study design was used encompassing assessment of patients’ outcomes at 2-4 months following an initial clinic visit (Time 1), and 7–14-month follow-up (Time 2). Outcomes regarding participants’ demographics, acute COVID-19 healthcare use, mental health, and alcohol use were examined.<br> <br> <strong>Results: </strong>The baseline sample’s (n = 153) median age = 43.5yrs (females = 105 (68.6%)). Sixty-seven of 153 patients (43.8%) were admitted to hospital with COVID-19, 9/67 (13.4%) were admitted to ICU, and 17/67 (25.4%) were readmitted to hospital following an initial COVID-19 stay. Sixteen of 67 (23.9%) visited a GP within seven days of hospital discharge, and 26/67 (38.8%) did so within 30 days. Seventeen of 153 participants (11.1%) had a pre-existing affective disorder. The prevalence of clinical range depression, anxiety, and PTSD scores at Time 1 and Time 2 (n = 93) ranged from 12.9% (Time 1 anxiety) to 22.6% (Time 1 PTSD). No statistically significant differences were observed between Time 1 and Time 2 depression, anxiety, and PTSD scores. Problematic alcohol use was common at Time 1 (45.5%) and significantly more so at Time 2 (71.8%). Clinical range depression, anxiety, and PTSD scores were significantly more frequent among acute COVID-19 hospital admission and GP attendance (30 days) participants, as well as among participants with lengthy ICU stays, and those with a previous affective disorder diagnosis.<br> <br> <strong>Conclusions: </strong>Ongoing psychiatric symptoms and problematic alcohol use in Long COVID populations are a concern and these issues may be more common among individuals with severe acute COVID-19 infection and /or pre-existing mental illness.</p>
COVID-19-related fatigue: cognitive profiles and multidomain complaints at 12 months follow-up
<p>Cognitive deficits were often reported during the acute and post-acute stages of severe COVID-19 and were often, but not always, associated with signs of brain damage. Population-wide surveys highlighted the need for investigations into the nature, the severity and the evolution of cognitive, behavioural and psychiatric deficits. In this observational study, we describe the outcome at 12 months after severe COVID-19 involving intensive care unit stay and critical chronic illness in six patients, who had no history of prior brain dysfunction. A pervading mental and physical fatigue was consistently reported as well as numerous multidomain complaints, which affect to a certain extent everyday life, and for some of the patients a certain degree of neurobehavioural (apathy) and/or psychiatric (anxiety) dysfunction. Standardized neuropsychological tests revealed for 4 of the 6 patients the occurrence relatively isolated of cognitive dysfunction or performance at the lower limit of the norm in some, but not all attentional, executive and/or working memory tests. Somatic scales highlighted the presence of dyspnoea, muscle weakness, an olfactory disorder and/or minor sleep problems in some but not all patients.</p>

A synthetic dataset for the exploration of survival and classification models: prediction of heart attack or stroke within a 10-year follow-up period
<div> <div></div> </div> <div> <div> <div> <p><span>Machine learning methodologies are increasingly popular in health care research. This shift to integrated data science approaches necessitates professional development of the existing health care data analyst workforce. To enhance a smooth transition, educational resources need to be developed. Barriers to accessing real healthcare datasets, vital for health care data analyses methodologies training purposes, include financial, ethical and patient confidentiality concerns. Synthetic datasets mimicking real-world complexities offer a simpler solution.</span></p> <p>We present a synthetic dataset which mirrors routinely collected primary care data on heart attack and stroke among the adult population. The data incorporates much of the practical challenges encountered in routinely collected primary care systems such as missing data, informative censoring, interactions, variable irrelevance, and noise and can be used for training in methods which handle these difficulties. The intent is for the user to build models of heart/stroke risk using survival-based methodologies.</p> <p>By sharing this synthetic dataset openly, our goal is to contribute a transformative asset for professional training in health and social care data analysis. The dataset covers demographics, lifestyle variables, comorbidities, systolic blood pressure, hypertension treatment, family history of cardiovascular diseases, respiratory functioning, and experience of heart-attack and/or stroke. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in sophisticated healthcare datasets for training, fostering professional development of the health and social care research workforce.</p> <p>This study is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research ARC Wessex and the National Centre for Research Methods. Hemostatic system in Takotsubo patients at long-term follow-up: A hidden activation?
<p>This record contains raw data related to the article “Hemostatic system in Takotsubo patients at long-term follow-up: A hidden activation?”</p> <p><strong>Background: </strong>Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTS) has long been considered a benign condition, despite recurrent events and long-term adverse outcomes are often reported. Endothelial damage, blood hyperviscosity, and platelet activation described in acute phase persist in long-term follow-up; however, TTS pathophysiology is still not fully understood. Here, we explored the hemostatic system at a median of 3.1 years after TTS to uncover additional long-lasting changes in these patients.</p> <p><strong>Methods: </strong>We assessed hemostatic parameters in women with TTS (n = 23) or coronary artery disease (CAD; n = 31) and in control women (n = 26) age-matched, by thromboelastographic analysis, prothrombin time (PT) and partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) coagulation assays and microparticle exposing Tissue Factor (MP-TF). Functional fibrinogen and fibrin polymerization were analyzed by Clauss method and spectrophotometry, respectively. Platelet reactivity was evaluated by light transmission aggregometry, whereas plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) were measured by ELISA kit.</p> <p><strong>Results: </strong>Compared with control subjects, TTS patients exhibit an accelerated clot formation, higher percentage of fibrin polymerization and higher PAI-1 levels. Compared with CAD, TTS patients showed sustained residual platelet activation but decreased functional fibrinogen, fibrin polymerization and MP-TF levels, prolonged aPTT and a marked BDNF increase.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>The long-term activation of hemostatic system observed in TTS patients compared to control subjects suggests a persistent humoral abnormality that may be related to the propensity for TTS recurrence. The higher residual platelet activity observed in TTS than in CAD patients invites investigation on TTS-tailored antiplatelet therapy potentially needed to prevent TTS adverse outcomes.</p>
