Survey data on financial literacy, financial inclusion, informal financial business practices, and intentions towards formalization of female small vendors in Lima, Peru

This dataset encapsulates a comprehensive survey aimed at understanding informal business practices and financial literacy among small business vendors in Peru. The dataset comprises three key components: the survey questionnaire, raw survey data, and a detailed codebook. Researchers interested in the dynamics of financial practices in emerging markets may find this dataset particularly valuable, as it allows for the exploration of factors influencing financial decisions in small enterprises, with potential modifications suggested for adapting the survey to different national or cultural contexts. This dataset not only contributes to empirical research in financial behavior but also supports gender-specific studies by allowing the variable 'sex' to be adapted to 'gender' with multiple response options.

The data and supplementary material is divided in tree files:

The survey, presented in "Survey IFE.docx," includes questions across various domains such as informal business practices, financial literacy, financial inclusion, intentions towards financial formalization, and the formality of business ventures, along with demographic variables like age, sex, business age, and number of employees.

The raw data, stored in "Dataset.csv," records responses from 118 participants, mapped against 31 indicators.

The "Codebook.doc" provides exhaustive details about the survey variables, coding of responses, and the methodology employed, facilitating the replication of the study and application of the dataset in varied research contexts.

Searching as Information Literacy Unpacking the ACRL Frame of Searching As Strategic Exploration

Searching as Information Literacy Unpacking the ACRL Frame of Searching As Strategic Exploration is an OER that includes a podcast, blog and associated exercise. Three University of Ottawa librarians are interviewed on search challenges they have encountered and their proposed search strategies as it relates to the ACRL framework: Searching as Strategic Exploration. Although it is possible to present an analysis of search strategies solely in writing or in traditional in-personal presentations, newer media such as podcasts allow for innovative delivery of the material in a more immediate and visceral way. That is, the audience is able to hear and receive the information directly from the experts themselves, in their own words. A podcast is also able to convey the aural nuance of a given speaker in a way that conventional scholarly approaches can’t quite duplicate. We believe that a podcast with real librarians’ voices speaking to and guiding students about exploratory searching, using recent, real-life examples, represents a dynamic, useful, engaging and relevant educational tool for our target audience - MLIS, MIS students.

Podcast can be found on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/somesoundsbylina/searching-as-information

Access to the blog: https://esisuottawa.wixsite.com/esisinfolit/post/searching-as-information-literacy-unpacking-the-acrl-frame-of-searching-as-strategic-exploration

Information literacy in the area of Library and Information Science. A bibliometric analysis in Latin America, from the Lens database (2001-2020).

The results of scientific production on ALFIN (2001-2020) in the areas of Library and Information Science are shown. All BIC journals were identified from Latindex. Then it was verified whether these journals were contained in the following databases: Web of Science (Core Collection and Scielo Citation Index), Scopus, Lens and Dimensions. The Lens database was chosen for retrieving records on ALFIN and performing the bibliometric analysis, as it has the highest coverage of BIC journals in Latindex. The trend and growth of scientific production were evaluated according to authors and year of publication; the productivity of authors was analyzed using Lotka's Law and the dispersion of the literature according to Bradford's Law. The degree, index and coefficient of collaboration were determined and collaboration networks were identified according to authors. The results show that scientific production on ALFIN in Latin America, reached a peak between 2017 and 2018, presenting a decrease from 2019 onwards. It was also observed that the production, collaboration between authors and the number of journals is predominantly Brazilian.

The Practical Value of Information Literacy in the Workplace

This video was produced for an information literacy course at the University of Ottawa's École School of Information Studies (ÉSIS). It is shared as an open education resource to be (re)used to teach viewers about the value of information literacy in the workplace. The video aims to briefly outline workplace literacy expectations for novice job seekers wanting to increase their employability. The video’s objective is to make (under)graduate students aware of the key information literacy skills that employers are looking for in new hires, and provide some suggested resources to improve or acquire these skills. The video is meant to be a starting point to build on students' awareness of information literacy skills and how these skills will be valuable in the workplace. This builds on the core concept of "Information Has Value" from the Association of College & Research Libraries' Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education (2015).

Learning objectives include knowing why an employee needs information, where and how information can be found, and how information is used and presented in the workplace.

The video was produced using Microsoft PowerPoint, Canva, Slidesgo and Screencast-o-matic.

The following references were used to inform the video content:

Cheuk, B.
