There are three EBSD datasets, I-III, named "I_EBSD.dat" - "III_EBSD.dat", each with corresponding calibration and background patterns, as well as secondary electron scanning electron microscopy images showing the scanned area and text files containing the acquisition parameters. In this study, a complete exploration of the conformational space within phase transfer catalysts by means of computational methods benchmarking is presented. For this particular research work, only the most applied conformational analysis approaches have been chosen to characterise different Cinchona alkaloid-based phase transfer catalysts. This particular benchmarking study aims to rigorously compare the performance of different conformational methods, determining the strengths of each method and to provide recommendations regarding suitable choices of methods for an analysis. <strong> </strong></p>
Information transfer in mammalian glycan-based communication
<p>Glycan-binding proteins, so-called lectins, are exposed on mammalian cell surfaces and decipher the information encoded within glycans translating it into biochemical signal transduction pathways in the cell. These glycan-lectin communication pathways are complex and difficult to analyze. However, quantitative data with single <span class="ins cts-3">-</span>cell resolution provide means to disentangle the associated signaling cascades. We chose C-type lectin receptors (<span class="jrnlPatterns">CTLs</span>) expressed on immune cells as a model system to study their capacity to transmit information encoded in glycans of incoming particles. In particular, we used <span class="del cts-4">NF-κB</span><span class="ins cts-4">nuclear factor kappa-B</span>-reporter cell lines expressing <span class="ins cts-4">DC-specific ICAM-3–grabbing nonintegrin<span class="ins cts-7"> <span class="ins cts-7">(DC-SIGN)</span></span></span><span class="del cts-4">DC-SIGN</span>, <span class="ins cts-4">macrophage C-type lectin (</span>MCL<span class="ins cts-4">)</span>, dectin-1, dectin-2, and <span class="del cts-4">mincle</span><span class="ins cts-4">macrophage-inducible C-type lectin<span class="ins cts-6"> (MINCLE)</span></span>, as well as TNFαR and TLR-1<span class="jrnlPatterns">&</span><span class="jrnlPatterns">2</span> in monocytic cell lines and compared their transmission of glycan-encoded information. All receptors <span class="del cts-7">did </span>transmit information with similar signaling capacity, except dectin-2. This lectin was identified to <span class="ins cts-3">be </span>less efficient in information transmission compared to the other CTLs<span class="ins cts-3">,</span> and even wh<span class="del cts-7">ile </span><span class="ins cts-7">en </span>the sensitivity of the dectin-2 pathway was enhanced by overexpression of its co-receptor FcRγ, its transmitted information was not. Next, we expanded our investigation toward<span class="del cts-3">s</span> the integration of multiple signal transduction pathways including synergistic lectins, which is crucial during pathogen recognition. We show how the signaling capacity of lectin receptors using a similar signal transduction pathway (dectin-1 and dectin-2) <span class="del cts-3">are</span><span class="ins cts-3">is</span> being integrated by compromising between the lectins. In contrast, co-expression of MCL synergistically enhanced the dectin-2 signaling capacity, particularly at low <span class="ins cts-3">-</span>glycan stimulant concentration. By using dectin-2 and other lectins as examples, we demonstrate how signaling capacity of dectin-2 is modulated in the presence of other lectins<span class="ins cts-3">,</span> and therefore<span class="ins cts-3">,</span> the findings provide insight into how immune cells translate glycan information using</p>
Cryogenic electron ptychographic single particle analysis with wide bandwidth information transfer
<p>Advances in cryogenic transmission electron microscopy have revolutionised the determination of many macromolecular structures at atomic or nearatomic resolution. This method is based on conventional defocused phase contrast imaging. However, it has limitations of weaker contrast for small biological molecules embedded in vitreous ice, in comparison with cryo-ptychography, which shows increased contrast. Here we report a single-particle analysis based on the use of ptychographic reconstruction data, demonstrating that three dimensional reconstructions with a wide information transfer bandwidth can be recovered by Fourier domain synthesis. Our work suggests future applications in otherwise challenging single particle analyses, including small macromolecules and heterogeneous or flexible particles. In addition structure determination in situ within cells without the requirement for protein purification and expression may be possible.</p>

Information transfer efficiency differs in wild chimpanzees and bonobos, but not social-cognition
Several theories have been generated to understand the socio-cognitive mechanisms underlying the unique cooperative abilities of humans. The "interdependence hypothesis" posits that the cognitive dimension of human cooperation evolved in contexts when several individuals needed to collaborate to achieve a common goal and that more interdependent individuals are more likely to cooperate (provide services to conspecifics) in non-collaborative contexts. Alternatively, the "social tolerance hypothesis" proposes that higher social tolerance allows conspecifics to cooperate more efficiently and with a wider range of partners. We conducted the first field experimental evaluation of both hypotheses in our closest living relatives by contrasting chimpanzees to the less interdependent but more tolerant bonobos. We compared each species' performance during a non-collaborative cooperative task: informing conspecifics about a danger. We presented Gaboon viper models to 82 individuals from 5 wild communities. Chimpanzees arriving late at the snake were significantly more likely to have heard a call and less likely to startle, indicating that chimpanzees were better informed about the presence of the threat than bonobos. This stems from clear species differences in how individuals adjusted their calling decisions to the level of information already available. Chimpanzees were more likely to call and produced more alarm calls when they had not yet heard a call, whereas bonobos did so when they already heard a call. Our results confirm the link between interdependence and cooperation performance. These species differences were most likely driven by differences in motivation rather than in cognitive capacities since both species tended to consider audience knowledge in their decision to call. Our results inform theories on the evolution of human cooperation by linking inter-group competition pressure and in-group cooperative motivation and/or capability.
Self-organization and information transfer in Antarctic krill swarms
<p>Antarctic krill swarms are one of the largest known animal aggregations, and yet, despite being the keystone species of the Southern Ocean, little is known about how swarms are formed and maintained. Understanding the local interactions between individuals that provide the basis for these swarms is fundamental to knowing how swarms arise in nature, and what potential factors might lead to their breakdown. Here we analyzed the trajectories of captive, wild-caught krill in 3D to determine individual level interaction rules and quantify patterns of information flow. Our results demonstrate that krill align with near neighbors and that they regulate both their direction and speed relative to the positions of groupmates. These results suggest social factors are vital to the formation and maintenance of swarms. Further, krill operate a novel form of collective organization, with measures of information flow and individual movement adjustments expressed most strongly in the vertical dimension, a finding not seen in other swarming species. This research represents a vital step in understanding the fundamentally important swarming behavior of krill.</p>
