Data for "Nano-scale characterisation of sheared β'' precipitates in a deformed Al-Mg-Si alloy"
<p>This dataset contains data used in the publication entitled "<strong>Nano-scale characterisation of sheared β'' precipitates in a deformed Al-Mg-Si alloy</strong>". This publication concerns how β'' precipitates are sheared by dislocations during deformation. The data contained in this repository are data acquired on various transmission electron microscopes of specimens of the aluminium alloy AA6060 in peak aged condition after uniaxial compression to 5%, 10%, and 20%, in addition to the undeformed reference alloy.</p> <p>There are five main types of data:</p> <ul> <li>Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images</li> <li>High-resolution TEM images</li> <li>High angle annular dark field (HAADF) scanning TEM (STEM) images</li> <li>Scanning precession electron diffraction (SPED) data.</li> <li>Cross-sectional data of precipitates in undeformed and 20% compressed conditions.</li> </ul> <p>Data for the TEM, HRTEM, and STEM images are kept in zipped folders due to the large number of images (several hundreds for each compression condition). Folders are named following the format of "<alloy>_<compression>_<technique>", where technique refers to TEM, HRTEM, or STEM. Images are provided in both .hdf format and .jpg format (to aid in navigating the data). Please see <a href="https://www.hdfgroup.org/">HDF Group</a> for more information regarding the HDF file format, and <a href="https://www.hdfgroup.org/downloads/hdfview/">HDF View</a> for softaware to read and show HDF data. The Python package <a href="http://hyperspy.org/">HyperSpy</a>, is also useful for loading the HDF data for inspection, analysis, and presentation.</p> <p>For some STEM images, a stack of short-exposure STEM images acquired and analysed using the <a href="http://lewysjones.com/software/smart-align/"><em>SmartAlign</em></a> plugin to <a href="http://www.gatan.com/products/tem-analysis/gatan-microscopy-suite-software"><em>Gatan Digital Micrograph</em></a> is available. SmartAlign offers the possibility of rigidly and non-rigidly aligning the STEM images in the stack in order to reduce effect of specimen drift and scan noise during acquisition. The conventional STEM images are found in the zip archive labelled "STEM". When the filenames of the STEM images include "SAstack" and/or "SAimage", a STEM SmartAlign stack or the average through a non-rigidly aligned stack is available of the same field of view. In such cases, both the SmartAlign stack and the through-stack image is provided in the metadata in the .hdf file (note that not all stacks have been aligned, and in such cases no through-stack image is available). In addition, the SmartAlign stacks themselves are available in the subfolder "STEM\SmartAlign\" within each STEM folder. The through-stack images of the smart align stacks are also provided separately in the subfolder "STEM\SmartAlign\Aligned\". For the 20% compressed case, a lowloss electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) spectrum and thickness maps of the imaged areas are also provided, in the subfolder "STEM\EELS\".</p> <p>The SPED data, acquired using the <em>ASTAR</em> system of <em><a href="https://www.nanomegas.com/">NanoMegas</a></em>, is provided as .hdf5 files in the root directory of the repository. They should be read using and <a href="https://github.com/pyxem/pyxem">pyXem</a>. The attached Jupyter Notebook "SPED_data_inspection.ipynb" can be used to access the SPED datasets. These datasets are 4D datasets, with two spatial and two reciprocal dimensions. They have been decomposed using the non-negative matrix factorization algorithm (NMF) used in HyperSpy. These decomposition results are included in the .hdf5 files. In addition, parameters used in the preprocessing of the datasets are attached in the metadata in these files. The metadata of these files are also provided separately as .txt files.</p> <p>Finally, measurements of the precipitate cross-sectional area and circularity is available as .csv files with the first column being the row index, the second the cross-sectional areas of precipitates measured in nanometers squared, the third column is the perimeters of the precipitates measured in nanometers, and column four is the <a href="https://imagej.nih.gov/ij/plugins/circularity.html">circularity</a> of the precipitates.</p>
Dataset: Electrolyte-dependent deposition morphology on magnesium metal utilizing MeMgCl, Mg[B(hfip)4]2 and Mg(HMDS)2–2AlCl3 electrolytes
<p>This is a collection featuring the data generated and used within the paper: 'Electrolyte-dependent deposition morphology on magnesium metal utilizing MeMgCl, Mg[B(hfip)4]2 and Mg(HMDS)2–2AlCl3 electrolytes'. The deposition behavior of two state-of-the-art electrolytes, magnesium tetrakis(hexafluoroisopropyloxy)borate (Mg[B(hfip)~4~]~2~) in dimethoxyethane (DME) and magnesium bis(hexamethyldisilazide) with two equivalents of aluminum chloride (Mg(HMDS)~2~-2AlCl~3~) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) was investigated. Using symmetric flooded magnesium-magnesium cells with different electrolyte concentrations and current densities the deposition process was monitored optically in-situ by a video microscope. The depositions were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and compared to depositions from methylmagnesium chloride (MeMgCl) in THF, known for its dendritic growth. In this work, MeMgCl showed unidirectional growth and for the harshest applied conditions, mossy depositions, but no branching dendrites as reported in previous literature. Mg[B(hfip)~4~]~2~ and Mg(HMDS)~2~-2AlCl~3~ did not show the formation of dendrites or a dendrite preform but also did not result in a desired smooth layer but in spherical depositions. For the Mg[B(hfip)~4~]~2~ electrolyte, the influence of magnesium borohydride (Mg(BH~4~)~2~) as an additive was additionally tested resulting in a more planar growth.</p>

Reevaluated P-V-T Dataset for (Mg,Fe)SiO3 post-Perovskite
<p>This is a collection of pressure, volume, and temperature data for (Mg,Fe)SiO3 post-perovskite collected in laser-heated diamond anvil cells. The volumes and temperatures are collected from previous studies, and the pressures are reevaluated according to the internally consistent pressure scale of Dorogokupets and Dewaele (2007). A Monte Carlo sampling routine was used to propagate uncertainty from the measured volumes and temperatures, as well as uncertainties in the pressure scale parameters, to the final pressure uncertainties.</p>

<p>This entry contains input files for the LOPT atomic physics code. The results are described in the article "Updated reference wavelengths for Si VII and Mg VII lines in the 272--281 Angstrom range" by Dr. Peter R. Young (NASA Goddard Space Flight Center) that was submitted to The Astrophysical Journal.</p><p>There are two sub-directories called mg7 and si7 for the two ions. In each there are three input files of the form:</p><p>Mg7_FixLEV_EIS.txt - List of fixed levels in the atomic model.<br>Mg7_lin_EIS.prn - List of wavelengths and uncertainties for the lines of the model.<br>Mg7_lopt_EIS.par - The parameter input file for LOPT</p><p>You will need to install the LOPT code to use these files. See Kramida, A. E. 2011, Computer Physics Communications,236<br>182, 419.</p><p>In each directory you will see two additional files that are the output wavelength and energy files generated by the author.</p><p>Version 1.1: the input/output filenames in the Mg7_lopt_EIS.par were wrong in the previous version. This has been fixed. The input data are the same as before.</p>
Effect of Nd on high temperatures deformation and corrosion behavior of AZE Mg alloy
<p>An extruded AZE Mg alloy (Mg-3Al-1Zn-0.6Nd) has been developed and prepared to examine the effect of the precipitated phase on corrosion and hot deformation behavior. High-temperature compression experiments show that dynamic recrystallization (DRX) occurs at various experimental parameters (473 to 673 K and 1×10-4 s-1 to 1×10-3 s-1). The deformation mechanism is dominated by dislocation slip and/or twinning. Al11Nd3 precipitates with two different sizes could impede nucleation and the growth of DRXed grains. Serrated flow occurred owing to the interactions between dislocations and precipitates. The corrosion current density decreases with the addition of Nd elements. Moreover, the continuous precipitation of the Al11Nd3 phase at grain boundaries reduces the corrosion rate in NaCl solution, thereby enhancing the corrosion resistance of AZE alloys.</p>

Analysis of particles size distributions in Mg(OH)2 precipitation from highly concentrated MgCl2 solutions
<p>Magnesium is a raw material of great importance, which attracted increasing interest in the last years. A promising<br> route is to recover magnesium in the form of Magnesium Hydroxide via precipitation from highly concentrated<br> Mg2+ resources, e.g. industrial or natural brines and bitterns. Several production methods and<br> characterization procedures have been presented in the literature reporting a broad variety of Mg(OH)2<br> particle sizes. In the present work, a detailed experimental investigation is aiming to shed light on the<br> characteristics of produced Mg(OH)2 particles and their dependence upon the reacting conditions. To this<br> purpose, two T-shaped mixers were employed to tune and control the degree of homogenization of reactants.<br> Particles were analysed by laser static light scattering with and without an anti-agglomerant treatment based<br> on ultrasounds and addition of a dispersant. Zeta potential measurements were also carried out to further assess<br> Mg(OH)2 suspension stability.</p>
