Marbles Buried
Count of marbles ≥ 2/3 covered by bedding at session end
Assess compulsive-like and anxiety-related digging behavior in rodents.
Metrics automatically extracted by ConductVision.
Count of marbles ≥ 2/3 covered by bedding at session end
Time from placement to first marble contact and displacement
Number of discrete digging episodes throughout the session
Total time spent in active digging behavior
Duration of nose-point proximity to marble locations
Total distance traveled to control for motor confounds
The Marble Burying Test places rodents in a cage with evenly spaced marbles on deep bedding. Animals spontaneously bury marbles through repetitive digging — a behavior sensitive to anxiolytics, SSRIs, and compounds targeting OCD-like repetitive behavior. The test dissociates compulsive-like digging from general anxiety and locomotor changes.
ConductVision uses overhead video tracking to monitor marble displacement in real time, automatically scoring burial depth and temporal patterns. The software counts buried marbles using contrast-based detection, tracks digging bout frequency, and separates burying behavior from incidental contact or exploration.
