Moderate shading represents leaf upper surface; light shading represents leaf under surface (of leaf shelters stage 1 and 2); unshaded areas are feeding damage; dark shading is the upper surface of the leaf shelter which has been swung under the partially eaten leaf. The caterpillar in the stage 3 shelter passed through two more instars before pupating. Scale approximately life size.
