AIS heatmap: North Sea and Dutch Inland Waterways for the months January, April, July, October in 2019

This dataset contains information on vessel movements in the North Sea and Dutch Inland Waterways for the months January, April, July, and October in 2019. It provides a heatmap representation of vessel traffic density during these specific months, which can be useful for various maritime and environmental analyses.

1. File Formats

The dataset is provided in the following file formats:

NetCDF : The primary data files are available in netcdf format. For each grid cell the variables sog (Speed Over Ground) and count (Number of AIS messages) are available

GeoTIFF (Georeferenced Tagged Image File Format): Heatmap images are provided in GeoTIFF format, suitable for geographic visualization.

The dataset is split into tiles. Each tile conforms to the OSM tiling naming scheme.

2. Variables

The dataset includes the following key variables:

Speed Over Ground (SOG): The average vessel's speed over the ground for all the messages.

Count: The number of AIS messages received in this location

3. Data Collection Method

The AIS data used in this dataset was collected from AIS transponders on vessels operating in the North Sea and Dutch Inland Waterways. These transponders transmit information such as vessel position, speed, and identification. The dataset aggregates this information to create heatmap images for analysis. We did this on all the messages. Some ships emit more messages than others. Ships emit messages at higher frequency when sailing than when stationary.

4. Source of Original Data

The original AIS data used to create this dataset was sourced from the AIS archive from Rijkswaterstaat. This dataset was analysed for the purpose of a storymap.

VariaNTS corpus: A spoken Dutch corpus containing talker and linguistic variability

The VariaNTS (Variatie in Nederlandse Taal en Sprekers) corpus is a Dutch spoken corpus that was developed to maximize both linguistic and talker variability. It contains 1000 stimulus materials from 11 linguistic subcategories, recorded by 8 male and 8 female native speakers of standard Dutch. The corpus contains audio recordings, orthographic transcriptions, stimulus-specific details such as word frequencies, neighborhood densities and phonotactic probabilities, and talker details. The VariaNTS corpus aims to provide new materials to be used for broad assessment of speech perception and word recognition in Dutch clinical and academic settings.

eCodicesNL: a virtual library for medieval manuscripts in Dutch collections

This is a presentation about eCodicesNL: a new initiative to build a virtual library for medieval manuscripts in Dutch collections. The elements that go into this library are, just as in its model project e-codices Switzerland, high quality and complete images, high quality descriptions and an excellent search interface. The concept is simple, but the execution is not: what is the best model for creating such an aggregated library, and how can we deal with data that already exist? How can we facilitate collections to take care of their own material, and keep it updated within a collective system?

Well (a Dutch 'welput'), Boazum, Netherlands
On the 16th of July 2017, a large hole opened up in the garden of a family in the Frisian village of Boazum, the Netherlands. The residents soon realised that it was the result of a collapse above a previously unknown brick-lined well in an overall good state of conservation. The construction was documented by using photogrammetry, and the resulting 3D model proved valuable for a further constructional and functional analysis. The well dates from the 19th century. It probably served to cool a nearby milk-cellar of an older farm that was demolished sometime after 1881. See also: https://www.academia.edu/38117271/ Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
