<p>In a manuscript entitled &ldquo;A Comparison on the E-change Pulses Occurring in the Bi-level Polarity-opposite Charge Regions of the Intra-Cloud Lightning Flashes&rdquo;, lightning locations and electric field can be obtained through the following attachment. These files can be opened by MATLAB 2016 (or later). The data supports the aforementioned manuscript and can be used freely for scientific purposes with appropriate citations.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Data named as &ldquo;Example_IC_Flash&rdquo; consists of locations and an E-change waveform. Each location data has four columns, representing x (km), y (km), z (km), and time (ms). The E-change data has two columns, namely to time (ms) and E-change amplitude (DU).</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The other Data are stored using the form of &lsquo;.fig&rsquo;. Researchers can open these figures directly by using MATLAB.</p>

<p>Here are period wavelet movies (as .tif), generated using a wavelet analysis workflow developed by Gregor M&ouml;nke, of timelapse imaging of a dynamic Notch signaling reporter (i.e. LuVeLu) in spreadouts, ex vivo models of somitogenesis. Data from: Rainfall pulse response of carbon fluxes in a temperate grass ecosystem in the semiarid Loess Plateau

Rainfall pulses can significantly influence carbon cycling in water limited ecosystems. The magnitude of carbon flux component responses to precipitation may vary depending on precipitation amount and antecedent soil moisture, associated with nonlinear responses of plants and soil microbes. The present study was carried out in a temperate grass ecosystem during 2013–2015 in the semiarid Loess Plateau of China, to examine the response of carbon fluxes to precipitation using the "threshold-delay" model. The unique contribution of environmental variables, such as precipitation amount and antecedent soil moisture before rainfall (SWC_antecedent) to carbon fluxes in response to rainfall were also investigated. The lower threshold of effective rainfall was 6.6 mm for gross ecosystem production (GEP), 8.5 mm for net ecosystem production (NEP) and 4.5 mm for ecosystem respiration (RE); and the upper threshold of effective rainfall was 21.4 mm for GEP and NEP, and 16.8 mm for RE. Rainfall amount was positively affected the relative rainfall responses of GEP, NEP and RE. However, SWC_antecedent at 20 cm soil depth offset the response of GEP to rainfall pulses, and SWC_antecedent at 5 cm depth offset the response of NEP and RE to rainfall pulses, with corresponding partial slopes of linear regressions of −0.50, −0.40 and −0.52. These results indicated that NEP was more sensitive to rainfall pulses and RE was more sensitive to SWC_antecedent. These results demonstrate the importance of rainfall events of &lt; 10 mm, and that the negative effect of SWC_antecedent should also be considered when estimating ecosystem carbon fluxes in this semiarid region.

Supplementary material S31: Averaged spectrograms for the full collection of jolting pulses on each substrate.

<p>A series of spectrograms to demonstrate the filtering parameters chosen for each collection of jolt pulses to improve the alignment process. A selection of pulses from each substrate collection were averaged to produce each panel. This number differed based upon the number of pulses that showcased clarity (petri-dish = 40, honeycomb = 8, brood-comb = 40). Background frequencies were filtered as follows: 19 kHz high-pass (a), 500 Hz high-pass and 12 &ndash; 19 kHz band-stop (b), 500-2500 Hz bandpass (c), leaving only the frequencies where strong signal occurs. This then produces cleaner accelerometer data for improved scrutiny of the pulses to identify similarities within each substrate. The colour-coding of each spectrogram is not relevant for this figure as it serves only the purpose of substantiating the filtering choices.&nbsp;</p>

Supplementary material S23: Video evidence for a change in behaviour during the production of a honeycomb jolting pulse with successive peaks.

<p>Video showcasing mite displacement for the jolting pulse with 6 consecutive peaks. This is a video excerpt taken from the honeycomb jolting video (S10) slowed four times for ease of viewing. The soundtrack, actually coming from the accelerometer itself, which is also slowed accordingly is included and provides the jolting pulses as audible &lsquo;clapping&rsquo; sounds. The jolting pulse that produces the vibrational trace with 6 consecutive peaks is seen first at the time stamp 12.265 min on the x axis. The mite moves in a rightwards direction before immediately moving the body forwards, unlike the commonly seen singular left or right body displacement. This is followed by a jolting pulse at the time stamp 12.275 min, which showcases this commonly described movement, as a comparison.</p>
