Education
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 801 GENERAL ENGINEERING: A bachelor's degree or Higher in Engineering: To be acceptable, the program must: 1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least 1 program accredited by ABET; or 2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in 5 of the following 7 areas of engineering science or physics: a) statics, dynamics; b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; d) thermodynamics; e) electrical fields and circuits; f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combination of education and experience- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished 1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and 2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to 1 of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by 1 of the following: Professional registration or licensure- Current registration as an Engineer Intern, Engineer in Training, or licensure as a Professional Engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. Written Test- Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your current registration as an Engineer Intern/Engineer In Training or a copy of your license as a professional engineer, OR successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering examination or other written test for professional engineer registration. 1310 Physics: A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any 2 of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. 1501 Mathematics and Statistics: Series definition: This series covers positions that manage, supervise, lead, or perform scientific work of a mathematical, statistical, or actuarial nature. This series is applicable when the work of the position: *is covered by 2 or more professional series in the Mathematical Sciences Group, 1500, and no one professional series predominates; or *is not covered by any one professional series in the Mathematical Sciences Group, but is closely related to work in the Mathematical Sciences Group, 1500. Basic Requirements: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. 1550 Computer Science: a) professional competence in applying the theoretical foundations of computer science, including computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations; b) specialized knowledge of the design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of systems having the ability to transform information, and of broad areas of applications of computing which have common structures, processes, and techniques; and c) knowledge of relevant mathematical and statistical sciences. AND EDUCATION : Must have a Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable. IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: You MUST submit transcripts with the application. Official transcripts are not required at the time of application; however, if position has a positive degree requirement, qualifying based on education alone or in combination with experience, transcripts must be verified prior to appointment. An accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education must accredit education. Click here to check accreditation. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
