About the role

This position is part of the Office of Electricity, Department of Energy. As a General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will manage the North American Energy Resilience Model (NAERM), providing thought leadership in the area of grid modeling, assist in constructing new models and tools for addressing grid related questions, maintaining internal model and data operations, and develop and implement new analysis approaches and methods with limited oversight from the Director of Grid Modeling.

Responsibilities

  • As a General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will: Lead and advise on extensive scientific and engineering programs and projects for the Department of Energy (DOE), especially those broad in scope or lacking clear precedents. Formulate and implement scientific and engineering initiatives to advance energy resources, environmental cleanup, new technologies, and energy production impacts. Provide expert technical advice and leadership to various stakeholders on complex scientific and engineering problems, evaluating emerging technologies and recommending solutions. Develop and implement guidance for complex scientific and engineering systems, projects, and programs within the DOE. Serve as a recognized technical expert in scientific and engineering fields, representing the DOE in interagency groups and conferences. Manage project plans, budgets, and schedules, ensuring adherence to DOE policy and effectively resolving highly technical challenges.
