About the role

About the Position: Serves as a Natural Resource Specialist managing the overall environmental and natural resources programs for the Project Office. Responsible for long-range and short-range planning, administration, coordination of various project activities in areas of environmental enhancement and protection, fish and wild-life management, forest management, regulatory functions, Real Estate programs, visitor safety and assistance, budget management, and other related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the primary advisor to the Operations Project Manager concerning natural resourcesconservation matters.
  • Recommends and implements a program of ecosystem assessment as a baseline for measuring impacts of public use on various resources, especially forest, fish and wildlife resources.
  • Coordinates development of Natural Resource phases of the Operational Management Plan(OMP), Master Plan (MP), Environmental Initiatives, special studies, etc.
  • Provides input for and/or develops applicable portions of Environmental Assessments (EA) or Environmental Impact Statements (EIS).
  • Prepares, coordinates and implements short-range and long-range plans for operations to identify Natural Resources Management projects.
  • Serves as a technical advisor for Natural Resources in the liaison capacity between the Project, Omaha District, state Game and Fish, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Tribes, and other partner agencies.
  • Responsible for the development, submittal and management of a Natural Resource budget for the Project.
  • Responsible for the development, administration, and supervision of construction, service, and natural resource contracts.
  • Serves as point of contact for the Project area and maintains personal contact and public relations to promote acceptance, understanding, and compliance with Corps of Engineers policies.
  • Provides for project surveillance through patrols of project lands and waters to prevent unauthorized use, trespass, destruction of property, and to insure protection of project land, water, facilities and other environmental resources.
  • Serves as the Operations Project Manager's on-site advisor regarding environmental compliance matters and is responsible for project's environmental compliance program.
