About the role

About the Position: This position is located within the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Fort Gordon is approximately 139 miles east of Atlanta, GA; 80 miles southwest of Columbia, SC; 156 miles west of Charleston, SC; 175 miles southwest of Charlotte, NC; and 127 miles northwest of Savannah, Georgia. Fort Gordon's location is in the Augusta metropolitan area (also known as the Central Savannah River Area-CSRA).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Wildlife Biologist on the Directorate of Public Work’s staff responsible for the management of the installation’s endangered species, fish and wildlife programs through the Fort Gordon Integrated Natural Resources Plan (INRMP).
  • Conduct wildlife training and environmental education to fort Gordon activities and the public.
  • Develop short- and long-range proposals, programs and budgets for the installation fish and wildlife program.
  • Prepare contract statements and specifications for work program requirements.
  • Assist forestry personnel with wildland fire programs that include prescribed burning and wildfire suppression activities. Perform as a fire line crew, equipment operator or fire boss using various tools and heavy equipment.
  • Manage and support the Fort Gordon hunting and fishing program by setting seasons and bag limits through the iSportsman system.
  • Plan biological studies for game, non-game and fish wildlife species to evaluate habitat and estimate populations.
  • Manage applications for discing and mowing, prescribe burns, pesticide or herbicide treatments, as well as timber thinning.

Education
