Inscopix nVue TTL Adapter
5 parameters · BNC trigger · frame sync
Overview
The Inscopix nVue TTL Adapter synchronizes ConductMaze behavioral events with Inscopix miniature microscope calcium imaging recordings. The adapter provides a clean BNC trigger output compatible with the nVista/nVue trigger input for frame-locked behavioral timestamps.
Frame synchronization mode sends a continuous clock signal that the Inscopix system uses to timestamp its calcium imaging frames, enabling sub-frame alignment of behavioral events with neural calcium transients.
Setup Instructions
- Connect the TTL module via USB.
- Connect a BNC cable from the TTL module output to the Inscopix nVue/nVista trigger input.
- In ConductMaze > Integrations > Inscopix, select trigger mode (Event or Frame-sync).
- Set voltage to match Inscopix input requirements (3.3V for nVue, check nVista manual).
- In Inscopix Data Processing Software (IDPS), configure the trigger input as external sync source.
- Run a brief recording with a test event to verify frame-event alignment.
Common Pitfalls
- ⚠Inscopix nVue trigger input expects 3.3V logic by default. Sending 5V may damage the input — verify voltage compatibility before connecting.
- ⚠In frame-sync mode, the sync clock runs continuously. Behavioral events are encoded as pulse-width modulations on top of the clock — this requires IDPS version 1.6+ for demodulation.
- ⚠Miniature microscope cable length and commutator type affect signal quality. Use shielded BNC cables and keep them away from power supplies.
Methods Text (Copy-Paste)
Calcium imaging data from the Inscopix nVue miniature microscope were synchronized with ConductMaze behavioral events using the ConductMaze TTL module (ConductScience, Skokie, IL). Behavioral event pulses (3.3V, 100ms) were delivered via BNC to the nVue trigger input for frame-locked alignment of calcium transients with behavioral state transitions.
