Organize the observation station without treating the bench as the test method

This rabbit pyrogen testing bench provides a physical station for programs that are authorized to use an in vivo rabbit method. Its role is to organize restrainers, temperature-probe handling, observation, records, and cleanup. It does not determine whether a rabbit method is scientifically or regulatorily appropriate. Current FDA guidance emphasizes method suitability, interference, validation, and the availability of nonanimal or endotoxin approaches, so the method decision should be completed before the bench is purchased.

The stainless workbench measures 1950 × 730 × 800 mm and provides positions for 12 rabbit restrainers. A recessed channel supports rinsing and cleanup, while an integrated rack holds temperature probes. Those features can reduce improvised placement around the observation area, but the facility must confirm the exact restrainer geometry, probe system, animal access, identification method, data capture, and line routing.

The animal protocol and veterinary plan should define acclimation, handling, restraint duration, observation, monitoring, humane endpoints, staff competence, and what happens when an animal or measurement falls outside the approved process. The bench should allow staff to see and reach every position without crowding equipment or blocking emergency access. Probe placement, calibration, timing, and records belong to the validated method and are not implied by the workbench.

Cleaning planning should cover the stainless surface, recessed channel, restrainers, probe holders, nearby floors, and any drainage connection. Teams should define segregation between prepared and used equipment, spill response, compatible cleaning agents, inspection, and room turnover.
