Tracking quality control checks whether position, zone, and event data are reliable before endpoints are calculated.

Decision summary

Use tracking quality control before interpreting distance, zone time, entries, velocity, or social interaction endpoints. A clean chart is not enough; report the rules used to detect and handle tracking failures.

  • Raw position data are unavailable and endpoint errors cannot be audited.
  • Tracking failures differ by group, arena, lighting, or subject appearance.
Caveats
  • Tracking errors can create false distance, false entries, or missing dwell time.
  • Interpolation can make data smoother while hiding systematic failure.
  • Zone maps must match the physical arena and camera perspective.
