The ConductScience Syringe Filters 0.22μm feature polyethersulfone (PES) membrane construction in 33mm diameter sterile format designed for microfiltration applications. The 0.22μm pore size provides effective retention of bacteria and other microorganisms while allowing passage of solutions and small molecules. PES membrane material exhibits low protein binding characteristics, making these filters suitable for biological sample preparation and media sterilization workflows where protein recovery is important.

These sterile syringe filters integrate with standard luer-lock syringes for manual filtration procedures in laboratory settings. The hydrophilic PES membrane provides consistent flow rates and filtration efficiency across a range of aqueous solutions. The 33mm diameter provides adequate filtration area for typical laboratory sample volumes while maintaining reasonable filtration times for routine procedures.

How It Works

Syringe filtration operates through size exclusion separation where the PES membrane acts as a physical barrier with defined pore structure. The 0.22μm pore diameter effectively retains bacteria (typically 0.5-5μm), yeasts, and larger particles while allowing passage of dissolved molecules, salts, and proteins smaller than the pore size. The hydrophilic polyethersulfone membrane material creates consistent wetting characteristics with aqueous solutions, ensuring uniform flow distribution across the filtration area.

During filtration, manual pressure applied through the syringe forces sample liquid through the membrane matrix. The tortuous pore pathway within the PES structure provides depth filtration characteristics, capturing particles through both surface straining and internal adsorption mechanisms. Low protein binding properties of PES minimize non-specific protein adsorption to membrane surfaces, maintaining sample recovery rates for biological applications.

The sterile packaging and construction eliminate introduction of contaminants during filtration procedures. The 33mm membrane diameter provides 8.5 cm² of effective filtration area, balancing throughput capacity with manageable pressure requirements for manual syringe operation.
